i wanna edit some of my photos and need some help in doing something i saw professionally at a store.it was i pic of a group wit sunglasses and everything was in grayscale apart from the glasses which were purple,this is what i wanna do.i googled but i dont know what im searchin for so i was hoping members would know.

do you know how to use photoshop? Ive taught myself through trial and error and tutorials ive searched for using google. Just type in what you want to do and add photoshop tutorial. This should help very basic but very easy....

but there are loads of other ways of doing what you want to do. You can cut out the colour you want using the magnetic cut tool add it to a new layer then desaturate the first layer then just put the colour were you want. Or if you really know what you're doing use layer masks. hope ive helped

use polygonal lasso to cut round the glases(if multiple pairs press shift to select more than 1 area) then right click on the area and click select inverse. Then press CTRL+SHIFT+U on your keybord
that should do it

Exactly. Just select the glasses (or whatever it is) and then invert the selection. Then just use the "desaturate" option, and voila! there's your image, just like his

its alright man, i suggest using the channel mixer to make your pictures black and white it looks (imo) nicer and more natural than desaturating it. Go to the channel mixer (image>adjustments) and use the following settings
R: 30
G: 60
B: 10
Monochrome: X
If you have CS3 this will help you even more and teach you about layer masks

yeah,If you are using cs3,there is a 'black and white' option in itself,so the b/w will look better..
