Here's a review of the HTC Kaiser. This "thing" rocks!

http://www.modaco.com/index.php?showtopic=256569

As it won't be cheap at the beginning, I bought myself a HTC Touch (P3450) and will use this one - and it's a fun device actually - until the Kaiser will be set a bit on the market and the prices will have come down...

The specs of HTC Kaiser are amazing. Considering the software that is available and the enhancement of Windows Mobile 6 over 5...

I always thought UIQ would be top notch...haha

now that this has been confirmed as TyTN II and the specs are more firm now (including GPS) I'm pretty sure this will be my next WM device

Looks like its not too far from being available now too

Posted by rule_breaker
hmm been using HTC devices for a long time now and this isn't really out of the ordinary.

Not too different from the TyTN. I really think HTC should stop bothering with the cameras in their devices

Lads, I believe this thing doesn't come with a radio. But, I think I read somewhere that getting radio is possible.

Can someone please confirm this? If radio is poss, and more importantly this thing is Mac syncable, then I think this maybe my next phone

Posted by masseur
the only way I have read you cat get radio is by streaming through the seemingless endless connection possibilities

I'm just looking around for best prices right now

Expansys say 9 days @ £484.95

Clove say September @ £493.50

Inkino have it at end September @ £499.99

@masseur
do you think the approx date i gave you for arrival of stock to my supplier is realistic now? if so, i think i may look at getting one, would be perfect timing as ill be looking for a new phone then, what with the k850 etc coming out similar time....

Forgive my ignorance, but would streaming not eat into your data allowance, thus costing you the price of the phone in data charges alone... per month?

Also, the expansys website shows the slider as flat and not angled. Please tell me that you can have both options. The only 2 things putting me off where the slider being angled... and lack of radio!

not if you use an (almost) unlimited data account such at t-mobile web'n'walk pro @ £10/month

Posted by scouser_75
The normal web n walk won't do, will it?

And I just saw some more pics of the device. it seems there are 2 modes for the slider - flat and angled

A bit on the big side, but given all the tech that comes with the size I think it's a small sacrifice!

Posted by masseur
normal web'n'walk gives an acceptable usage policy of 1gb/month for£7.50/month whereas the Pro gives 3gb maknig it a little more unlimited than the normal one

the ability to slide and angle the screen is one of the new features of this version as mentioned in the description "Adjustable screen angle and slide-out QWERTY keyboard"

sizewise its 112 x 59 x 19 mm which compares with the N95 at 99 x 53 x 21 mm making it a little longer and wider but slightly thinner

Posted by AbuBasim
Shame that the display is still only QVGA. And I would bet that call recording (for answering machine software) is still not possible. Because of this, the E90 would be a more interesting pick!

i popped in inkino on Tottenham court road and they have one in there for people to demo! looks nice, thicker than expected tho...

Posted by scouser_75
A lot thicker than N95?

I know Masseur said a little wider and longer than N95 but thinner. But judging by the pics it looks a lot bigger than N95. Masseur have you had one of these in your hand mate? I might pop over to tottenham court road tomorrow to check it out

I hear that the T-Mobile version is gonna look slightly different. Any one have any links to Tmobile version of the phone please?

no, I've not held one yet so I'm only going by the specs and the reviews and comparisons I have read around the web

Posted by scouser_75
Cool.

Ive unfortunately got an N95 so I'll compare sizes tomorrow and let you guys know.

Just found some pics of the t-mobile version of the phone... and it looks disgusting IMO.

i'm pretty sure you'll get one! so...we would really really appreciate a mini-personal-individual-and-GREAT review

have you read the review on modaco? nice, but the final version is more likely to be interesting than a pre-production unit

Posted by J273
Mines shipped

Should get mine tomorrow

Posted by masseur
from where?

Posted by jakontil
this is certainly my replacement for my o2 atom life!

though i wish to have the rom at least twice the size! wm6 applications is very 'spacious', though i admit having a 1gb rom on atom life is overkill, but 512 mb rom is nice, and i like non-intel powered device, it'll save a lot of juice on the battery!

Posted by masseur
ok, mine has shipped too and will arrive tomorrow!

Hi masseur!

did you buy from devicewire ?

phoneArena.com posted a review a few days ago:

Conclusion:

The Second TyTN is a welcome addition to the HTC family, being the Kaiser of the brand. It is worth naming it TyTN as it adds just what the phone needed – GPS chip for navigation. We are happy to see that the voice quality has been improved, the construction is moved to the next level (tilt display design, spring assisted mechanism and rubber back) and the software is customized with the TouchFlo technology we’ve known from the Touch. The TyTN II is almost excellent phone for those searching for a WM6 Professional device, featuring global GSM and 3G roaming, WiFI, GPS and QWERTY in a well-size body, when compared to the E90 for example. The only thing we don’t like about the phone is its display which although brighter is still rather unusable in bright light, and remains with QVGA resolution which is now not enough for a high-end phone.

@ofiaich, no. I ended up buying from Expansys at 1550 this afternoon and by 1630 it was shipped and I even got a call to confirm that which was very nice!

Yeah mines coming from expansys too.

This message was posted from a TyTN II

very happy so far!

Posted by AbuBasim
Any screen alignment issues yet?

Posted by masseur
no, and the keyboard is working perfectly too

Posted by AbuBasim
@masseur,

Have you used the old JASJAM/TyTN? If so, what is the keyboard feedback like? Is it the same? I didn't like the old metal-dome calculator-type of QWERTY keyboard on my old JASJAM.

Posted by jakontil
masseur! congratz man! u r a happy man! hhehehe

just want to ask about it's RAM, any lock up or automatic application shuts down when multitasking? how much ram at first after initial reboot?

thankx

Posted by masseur
@AbuBasim, yeah I had the TyTN but not the JasJam, though I did have the Jam, k-jam and JasJar. probably I prefer the JasJar keys for typing and feel but this keyboard on the TyTN II is very smooth and easy to type with.

Just one thing I have noticed is that when the screen is fully tilted I hit the botton of it sometimes when I am going for the top row of keys on the keyboard, and the 2 soft keys

@jakontil, no locks ups so far and I haven't noticed any apps being exited. I've been in meetings most of the day but sneaking a play here and there including starting as much as I can.

I haven't installed anything yet and memory after boot is currently showing 124.88mb free for storage and 65.57mb free for programs

a bit dissapointed there is no avantgo for WM6 but other than that, I'm already thinking its going to be tough deciding whether to use P1 or TyTN II as primary device

Posted by >500
@masseur
possible to get some comparison pics up of your kaiser and p1?

Posted by jakontil
@masseur, if it were my case, deciding which would make a way to be a primary device is simple, test it inside-out, the most stable, and battery life!

please keep us informed how the battery performs i am eager to know as my o2Atom life only lasts me half a day

Posted by masseur
some pics as requested

Posted by J273
Got mine too...very impressed so far

one thing i have noticed though..when the device is closed..the 2 halves on the right side slightlu move apart.

Is yours the same?....Not sure if its normal or not.

Posted by masseur
if you mean the top half is slightly "floating" above the bottom half then yes, its the same here

bit dissapointed that WM6 still doesn't have multiple browser page capability? bit weird they have done that. on WM5 I used to use Spb pocket plus for that but they don't have a WM6 version yet

Ahh thats good to know then....Thanks

Posted by J273
After playing with it more for the past hour or so...Ive noticed when its closed the top half seems a little looser than the bottom.

when i push to open the keypad the top half seems to open before the bottom half very slightly as though its getting twisted when opening..Only very slightly though even when pushed in the middle.

Its just when i use to have my wizard i replaced that and the second one i had was a lot more solid.

Posted by masseur
mine is very solid having played since mid morning and specifically tested the open/close/tilt many times

perhaps you're being just a tad worried about problems that perhaps aren't there? if not then there's always the opportunity to send back for replacement I guess, but my time here shows that most sliding mechanisms eventually get loose and so I tend to not worry about them unless they actually affect performance of the device
