Sony Ericsson M610i live and in the wild - Lizy / Elena debate resolved!

The somewhat schizo Sony Ericsson M610i has finally been spotted in the flesh - putting an end to the “is it the Lizy or is it the Elena?” debate.

We know most people out there don’t put much importance in an upcoming device’s codename, but chances are, if you’re reading this, you are at least somewhat interested in the M610i’s internal codename.

So, we’ll stop stringing you along and just tell you - the recently FCC-approved Sony Ericsson M610i will henceforth be known as the “Lizy.”
We can also tell you that we are not expecting the Lizy to sport a camera, but it will be a 3G handset. The tri-band GSM (900/1800/1900Mhz) phone will pack Bluetooth and WiFi under that large touchscreen.

The design is fairly minimalistic and straightforward (almost crossing into the land of bland), giving the Lizy a business-appeal. And, the rocker keypad and 3G UMTS radio is another plus in our book.
Still, a camera would have given the Lizy a couple brownie-points with us.

This is really going to confuse all the P1i bashers! If the P1i is "just an M600 upgrade" and not a replacement for the P990, then what the hell is this?!

A cheaper version of P1?

Sounds good to me. That's for people who wanted wi-fi on their M600 and don't need a camera.

And obviously, price will be lower than P1

yes! a true m600 successor! the camera was not necessary anyway the only thing missing was WIFI... and this seems to be the thing!

an entirely new phone with just a wifi edition? seems pointless to me.

Nyah, they should put only cif video call camera which only serve the purpose of only for video calling.

Also wifi b/g and p990 2,8" screen should do in this m610

maybe pointless for you but this helps SE to broaden it's smartphone porfolio like what Samsung does with D900i and nokia with N93i

Wifi is an added feature - hardware. And it benefits the users who can't have camera phone.

Boooooring
The same old crap + WiFi.

As P1i is not a true P990 successor, also M610 MAY NOT BE a treu M600 successor.

Yes, but they should have thought of putting WiFi in before. Why didnt they do it in the first place?
And I hope they make the design a bit better because this looks but ugly.

Agree, though i think the reason is that SE wanted to showcase P990 that time and wont make M600 ruin their marketing because it may compete P990 in the business segment

"And I hope they make the design a bit better because this looks but ugly."

spypics do most of the time looked awful and terrible, but later on the look will be further become attractive once shown in it's official picture one good example is the K850 by which may not be your preferred taste though many have already realized that it's design is gorgeous

if you don't want to be acknowledged harshly, keep your words in safe zone. have some good consent and avoid being rude

and it's true not treu

that's for sure

I don't like the color of the body (the dark blue one). IMO it just makes the phone to look like my grandfather's motorola c116 . Except that, the phone would be EXCELLENT for bussiness users.

all those commenting on its design. Its a PROTO. It will change a bit.

And regarding the form factor and button layout, knows its been a success, many people like its shape and qwerty keypad (many reviewers also) so, why change it?

if we could only get a m600i but with quad-gsm / tri-hsdpa... wifi is no big upgrade i don't think it would be worth it

Posted by razec
HSDPA and WiFi are just icings imho the most essential thing in choosing a smartphone was by staring first at the system specs i.e. 128Mb RAM 256Mb ROM and so on. and I'm pretty sure M610 will be a P1 without Camera but same system specs and so on
