as i asked: is there a patch for samsung that doesn't play MP3's to make it play? maybe it's a stupid question but...thanks
Posted by QVGA
Even though i got an A in english, i still cant understand what you mean
Posted by masseur
its clear enough to me.
he has a samsung that doesn't support MP3 and wants to know if there is a patch (or presumably some other software) that provides MP3 support
Posted by DJ_NeO2
sorry...my bad...look here's the problem...i have a samsung that doesn't play MP3's...now...is it possible to make it play? i know it's a stupid question, but is there ANYway to patch or even open it with programs like FAR manager(with the plugin)?
Posted by QVGA
oh.
it would be helpful if you tell us which samsung are you talking about. From what i know, samsung has horrible Java support. Did you look up any java application for MP3 playback?
Posted by DJ_NeO2
actually it's my sister's phone and she doesn't know which samsung it is...and she threw away the box and i can't find the manuals for it right now...the model it's very new...but the settings aren't very good...it doesn't support MP3's...so if there are java or any other things that i can try please tell me where could i find them...thanks
Posted by QVGA
if a phone doesnt support MP3, its very unlikely it will play it
Posted by DJ_NeO2
as I said...it's a stupid question...but why not ask it...somebody has to

Actually the phone uses some built in "codecs" in the phone firmware so they enable you MP3 playback. As the P990 was able to play wma files after software update, there might be some kind of so called "patch" for
phones. For Samsung I'm not that sure, but there was a java application that played MP3 files. If the Samsung phone is java enabled one (and supports the program to read the files from the phone memory) and it can put MP3 file in the memory it should be able to play. But no one knows until we try because there are many things the phone needs to play MP3 through java app:
- Java engine;
- Good internal memory;
- Ability to save "unknown format files";
- Can read files through Java application;
- Have phone processor powerful enough to play the MP3 file;
That's my opinion

nice nice...well maybe i'll be the first one to try:-)

is there a point, if it doesnt have mp3 support, it is very likely that it will have low memory space on the phone, which could mean even if u do get it to play mp3s there will be no space to store them.
Posted by DJ_NeO2
yea i know but you can store short MP3's just for better quality
Posted by whizkidd
The Ngage QD does not play MP3s by default.. It can if you add a third party player..
Is this someting like this??
Posted by DJ_NeO2
well..i haven't worked on that mobile...so i don't know but i think the answer is : YES

Why do not you remove its battery and see from its back that which samsung model is this. On symbian nokia phones,for example 6600 we can install ultra mp3 and it starts playing mp3 although other wise it do not have mp3 support

@whizkidd - man, I think of installing the MP3 player java app on the samsung to make it able to play mp3s. As
phones can play mp3 files using the LyricShow player app, there is an application that is meant for Motorola phones (downs't work on my w800), but may work on the samsung and make the phone play mp3s through it. After all maybe the samsung will support the LyricShow player, or maybe the KD player... No one knows...

ok i'll try...thanks

Remove your cover and battery and tell us what model you are using it will be something like "SGH-Z650i
if you have that one ive been told it wont allow you to use MP3's cos of the i-Mode functions.
MP3's work on my D900i though,
even though the new Samsungs aren't ment to be able to use them,
just hope thats a lie in later phones.

the phone is E420 it has a 2 mb memory, it's low but only for some short cut songs...just for better quality

Posted by DJ_NeO2
yeah it looks very nice...but it's more a mobile for girls(and woman too
Posted by Jools
According to the mobile-review link above:
"The most crucial shortcoming is missing support for mp3 or AAC formats, but at just 2 Mb of memory, the handset wouldn’t be able to store many tunes, so implementing support for them is useless. Instead, the device’s memory holds 12 “simplified” ring tones which surprisingly turn out to sound pretty cool and penetrating"
Posted by DJ_NeO2
i know...but i had to try

@miss uk here's what it say about the mobile:
* 2 x digital zoom
* polyphonic ring tones
* VGA camera
* talk 6.0 hrs
* standby 1.0 days
* weight: 0.0g

Fascia is the cover on the phone sometimes you can change them by just unclipping them or interchange as it's more likely pro-found
