Manhunt 2 Banned www.rockstargames.com/manhunt2

"A violent video game with "an unrelenting focus on brutal slaying" has become the first to be banned in Britain for a decade.
Manhunt 2, a sequel to the original and controversial game Manhunt, has been condemned by authorities for its "casual sadism" and "unremitting bleakness".

The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) rejected the game after finding it "constantly encourages visceral killing".

The ruling means the game cannot be legally supplied anywhere in the UK."

play.com / hmv.co.uk should still sell it too.as they are based in Jersey / Guernsey and are not counted as part of the UK

That just shows how this country is going today on the news they talking bout releasing people early from prison cause there too many people in their, just make sentences harsher, ban a video game stupid but hey we let peado's off the hook but ban a violent game get a grip UK.

you can not blame a game because of a murder, you might aswell ban cars because someone gets run over!!!!!!!!!!

I can see why they should ban part II: ted bundy, rumsfeld, bush, blair, linsay england, saddam, idi, ... They all grew up playing part I - and see what it did to them! Hitler and 60000000 million germans playing gta, and bang, the world's gone bad!
Oh, boohooooooo! The congressional investigation of columbine concluded that vid's had nuddin' to do with it! The Va. Tech. massacrist didn't play games! Mind you, I found part I boring, so I won't play part II, simple! But I guess showing abu ghraib at tea time has no effect on kids?

I don't want this game but this is quite ridiculous. Just because some people can't differentiate between make believe and real life, others must 'suffer'. Just luck I guess that it was the U.K. - like games and consoles come out so early here!

I also hear another game has been withdrawn as it shows CCTV footage of the James Bulger snatch thingy?

True and rightly so!

Posted by fatreg
yeah correct on that one..

not sure about the manhunt one though...

is there any actual evidence that games affect people??

physically/chemically? Yeah - a study some years ago showed that women players' serotonin levels measurably increase (they "relax", good mood...), while men playing the same game get more excited etc (I think they used a tomb raider?!)... However, effects usually wore off the moment the console was turned off - and no subjects turned homicidal! Other studies (including the US congress' own investigation of columbine and games) confirmed there's no evidence to suggest games or movies push you over the edge unless you are a nutter anyway - but then a traffic jam will be enough to make you go postal - and we don't ban stop'n'go!?!
But check out the link below to see how other media influence the very kind of people who rule over good'n'evil! A veteran of the US supreme court quoting jack bauer of 24 in a north-american panel debate over torture!!! i mean - that dude is totally in lala-world while debating the "merits" of torture:

I believe the issue of banned games in australia is a LOT more complicated than the media, esp'ly us and uk tabloids, make it out to be: due to some old laws they just can not rate a game "adult"! (this is very simplified) read interviews with some of the aussie censors of gta who actually say that they wouldn't mind if it were released...as an 18 + game, but "that unfortunately that option does currently not exist!"!
Similarily, in germany until recently censors wouldn't review foreign language movies, so that e.g. an engl. Disney dvd in a german rental place would carry a default 18+ sticker! No one claims germany "bans pinocchio" - yet it's very similar to the aussie "ban" of gta etc... they are not banned! they are unrated! It's a difference!!!!!!

"Banned video game is 'fine art'

Manhunt 2 is described by its makers as an 'entertainment experience'
The US publishers of a video game banned in the UK and Ireland have described it as a "fine piece of art".

Take Two chairman Strauss Zelnick said Manhunt 2 had his full support and that consumers should decide for themselves."

Full story from the BBC here

And quite rightly too! Whilst I wouldn't go as far as to say that it's fine art, I wholeheartedly agree with the rest of Take Two's comments.

This nanny state scenario which we are increasingly being subjected to is getting bloody ridiculous.

I hope they are also going to ban the News. I am fairly certain we saw more people die when the towers went down than all the kills you can clock up it that game.

Surprised how they havn't taken Grand theft auto away yet lol
seriousley though tv and video games affect alot of kids there was a program on tv in the week about it

Posted by lamont
im not really suprised that manhunt 2 got banned. There was no real plot to manhunt 1 except for the mindless violence........BUT MY GOD ITS FUN PUTTING A PLASTIC BAG ON SOMEONES HEAD AAND WATCHING THEM SUFFOCATE AND DOING IT FOR NO APPARENT REASON!

You can also very nicely chop someones head off in the game! You really cannot dispute the ban, the game really was SICK!
