Esato Awards 2007 Prelude.

By the looks of it, the Esato Awards concept has been well accepted by the members of this forum.

This concept was the brainchild of one of Esato's most prominent members scotsboyuk which he started of as the Fijies back in 2004.

In 2005, I took over (with scotsboyuks' permission) to host the awards which resulted in the first Esato Awards thread.

It had a mix of a bit of controversies and arguments but ended on a good note.

The next year, in 2006, I thought of once again hosting the annual event and it was a success as well with many members casting their franchise to vote for their favourite members in various categories.

Here it is!

The number of categories were increased and the number of people who voted too increased. However, considering the number of people who use this forum the number was too less in my opinion.

This thread is to gauge the popular voice for the awards this year.

Some main questions I have are the following:

1. Is it ok with everyone if I host this again? If anyone is interested in hosting this, I have no qualms in stepping down.

2. What more categories would you like to see?

The categories last year were:
The categories are:

* Best thread
* Best post
* Best Regional thread
* Funniest member
* Most helpful member
* King of Garbage
* Most loved member
* Most missed member.
* Best Newbie (Most Popular)

3. Anymore suggestions before we get the actual awards thread going would be accepted and lets rock the awards this year too!!

Looking forward to the replies.

This kind of thread can create a lot of interest and be great fun too, however it does take a lot of time and effort to organise and moderate, so good luck!!
We thought about such on M-R but we decided it was a potential minefield!!

Posted by whizkidd
I have been doing it for the past two years..yes it is an effort but...its worth it. Maybe we can be more transparent with the results this year? Any suggestions welcome..

How about a Online Poll for the Nominations...that way it can be very transparent.

Posted by whizkidd
Thats good but then will we be able to add the members in the poll? I believe we can only have some options in a poll right??

Posted by aatuif
how does one 'apply'...

You can add members names in the Poll or customise the Poll anyway you like, adding as many catergories as you like.

I think a Online Poll is a very fair and balanced way to run this years awards!

Posted by QVGA
how about some dubious honers this time aswell?

Posted by alrodlop35
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
That's a really good idea.

Posted by scotsboyuk
The problem with a publicly viewable poll is that it may influence the way some people vote. A secret ballot allows people to vote for whomever they choose without being influenced by who is currently doing well or not so well in a poll.

The way it has been run up until now is that each members sends in their votes in secret, which means that only the vote counter knows who the contenders are for each category. This prevents 'campaigning' from people who see that they have been nominated, which again may influence the way people vote.

A secret ballot is the best way to conduct it in my opinion.

when is the polling going to be held? i am too excited.

Posted by whizkidd
@ajeet, its still not decided..we're still looking for opinions..

Well the way it worked last year was you just pm'd your nominations to whizkidd - this worked well last year so there is no reason to change it IMO.

It was fun last year too.

Can't think of any more categories, though a few more wouldn't go amiss.

Agreed, a visible poll could tend to influence the way people vote, whereas voting via PM worked so well in the past. Also, i think that Whizz ought to continue with the "hosting" of the Awards, as i'm positive that he'll carry it off with the same flair and panache that he has exhibited with every other Esato-related task which has been entrusted to him.

hows about these categories

most original name
coolest newbie
best guy from perth, western australia

Posted by goldenface
So when are this years awards going to start?

Will they be televised this year?

Posted by axxxr
Exclusively on Sky Box Office!

Posted by goldenface
Who will be on the red carpet I wonder.

Nicole Kidman was refused entry last year - not A-list enough.

Strictly only the Grade 1-A's are allowed in and fatreg will see to that.

I would like to know if some members would like to sponsor goodies/prizes for the winners... on the lines of the playtime. What say?

Posted by tranced
like what? phones (i'd prefer a k550), moderator's power?

Posted by alrodlop35
I think a K550 would be quite out of range. More like neck straps, headsets, cleaning cloths, etc.

The awards are a little bit of fun. Good job whizkidd on doing it again

I reckon prizes could make some people campaign and take away from the fun and innocence of the awards - just my 2c.

And an online poll is unnecessary IMO.

P.S. Scots is still a tad bitter about another online poll in which he ending up winning (or losing depending on your POV)

Good Idea - BUT ( ): I think "these days" it wouldn't be fair to exclude members who'd rather not reveal too much personal info!?
Also would be exclusive in other ways: how do non arabs judge posts in arabic etc... And I really don't understand us-american !!! But I wanna vote in every category... Ergo, your suggestion is toooootally unacceptable
mostly kiddin'

. . . and I'll be wearing my BAHAG ! The Armani-suit counterpart at my end !

Posted by maggflodd
i have to dry-clean my balaclava and black-block uniform...so: when?

Posted by Cycovision
I'm not even going to mention what needs doing to my jockstrap and bunny ears...

And anyway, Whiz, are you keeping the 'best post' catagory this year? I won it last year and you immediately started talking about scrapping it in favour of something else in the next awards!

Posted by Xen0nflash
I think it's a super idea

I liked the one last year, it was very fun and good. Hope it will be the same this year

I'm sure Whiz will make it clear when he's back and ready to start the voting. But in the meantime, we should start the campaigning

Posted by fatreg
campaigning?

if i don't win funniest member again this year I am going to be mightily upset....

and you don't want that.

Posted by tranced
why you should win funniest member again? there are more funnier members out here.......as me?

Posted by axxxr
We should have a \"Most Miserable Member\" category aswell this year!
