I was bluejacked by a bus stop a couple of days ago. Sitting at a bus shelter, a prompt came on my phone "accept 1_evermore.mp3 from bluetooth".
I had been worded up and was looking for this particular bus stop

How cool is that! Imagine sitting at the bus stop, and suddenly "someone" offers you a free song! Neato.

I don't know if it's such a good security feature for a bank to encourage people to accept unknown bluetooth requests!!
Or for music distributers either, though because I was aware of the bus shelter promotion I wasn't concerned about receiving the song (I did so on my K750, but also on my N70, which being s60 device can be virus infected via bluetooth if your not careful what you accept)

very cool, though it does give rise to issues of invasion of privacy. if you could walk every corner and get these bluetooth messages every 5 seconds, wouldn't that count as spam?

That's why bluetooth has 2 very effective settings, the on and off function, which will stop you getting spam when you don't want it.

@max - If this is part and parcel of an advertisement . . . who can it be from
Posted by max_wedge
it was Evermore - Running. The mp3 was only 32Kbps, but atleast it was free.
I agree it could be considered spam, and what will happen if it get's invasive, people will just learn to turn their bluetooth off. so much for bluejacking
Actually you don't have to turn bluetooth off though, you can just set it to hidden. Then you can still be sent objectives by phones or devices you have paired with, but non-paired devices won't be able to see you.

ROFL nice
IF anyone from australia melbourne remembers the same thing was going around with coca-cola they were giving away free java games at bus stops,, all you had to do was either have your bluetooth on or a infrared device pointed into this twirling red light circle
it happened to me i was waiting for a mate at his bust stop..and all of a sudden i receive and incoming java file..so i accepted it and installed before you know it,, it was from coca-cola LOL

Oh damn! Another way to get spammed. I'm guessing they installed some sort of embedded device with a bluetooth transceiver in the bus stop.
Here in NZ, we haven't had this sort of blue-jacking happen, yet. I suspect it's coming though.
I set my bluetooth hidden all the time though to prevent this sort of thing. I don't like being bothered by people and machines I didn't request it from.

in melbourne cbd Coca Cola had one up too, was for a little game, where you need to shoot the things before they hit you.... nothing exciting
