I think i will pass over to the dark side (ie Nokia)

I have been a Sony Ericsson addict for 5-6 years. Started with T39, then T68i, then T610, then k700, then k750 and finally w810i. But SE has dissapointed me recently with releasing the same phone over and over with slight changes. They also refuse to have EDGE and 3G on the same phone as if they are mutually exclusive. I have been wanting to get a symbian phone to be able to do more, but SE only has 3 and 2 are without a camera. The only opiton left is the p990i which I am fine with but, it seems there is difficulty obtaining it where I am.

Since I am eligible for a companhy phone now and since P990i is not available, I am thinking of going with N93i. I always dislıked nokia's menu structure and the design of there phones, but when u like at their availbale features, u cant help but start thinking about getting one.

I guess we will see, if the dark side will win buy next week.

This concludes my rant

Any thoughts are welcome

agree. the lack of edge and 3g in the same fone are crap, just look at m600 etc nokia offers far nbetter support according gps for example ( smart2go for free ). p990 was a flop imo, nokia has far better and wider support for apps as i see. se is more focusing on cam and music, thses arent the most important features for a fone, at least not for me, i still prefer quality and thses cams are ok for fun. have to admit, the wm features is brill and great quality, but for an average usage nokia e60 music player is perfect as well. u should look for e and n series fones by nokia imo.

...same here
when I was fed up waiting for a "NEW" SE 7 months ago, I thought, right: go for a k800i out of stupid loyalty (even though I hardly used my k750's camera)... luckily the guy running the shop urged me to try e61 - got it on trial for 5 days... it's flawless... And over the last 7 months se haven't released or announced a single phone I'd even want to try... same ole, same ole... Sad but true: any two SE's or an e61/e65... no contest!!

Posted by EMS06
That list of disappointed SE fans is growing everyday. I'm one of those that is barely hanging on waiting for a really good smartphone, preferably the next p series. For me SE's got 4 months thereafter and if they don't impress me the Nokia e90 WILL BE THE FIRST non Ericsson/Sony Ericsson phone in 9 years! It's a scary situation but they (SE) have got only themselves to blame. The only good thing about them at the moment is that they are raking in the profits and that's it.

Posted by aatuif
SE's main pro is incompatibility and 'lack of innovative features', imo... nokia's compatibility is unparalled, beyond doubt...

but seriously: fair enough, se say "we concentrate on lower- to mid-range"... etc... but I find their "budget handsets" very unattractive...
Oh, and I think having invested quite some money on se-products, and time on this and others forums promoting SE, I'm quite entitled to an opinion...

se haven't announced anything interesting since cebit march 06. Its only been 2mpx camera phones without autofocus.

an announcement is all that's needed right now, which will create the interested and give people something to wait for.

You should wait till the 8th, if theres nothing you like buy a pokia.

Posted by maggflodd
certainly... Have crossed to the dark side but it hasn't swallowed me yet but there's the up-coming pokia e61i versus....... ??? Come 8th!

@londonlad123

Unlike some most of us here don't run down a company or product just because it is not SE and if you read most of us here have owned and used Ericsson and the SE devices for a long time. The only difference is some of us are not as forgiving in allowing mistakes and poor quality products just because they are from SE we pay for and expect more.

If SE announce and deliver an amazing product most of us i assume would buy it and not shun it because it isn't a Nokia. But if SE announce something and it's not amazing and is going take months to arrive with old spec can you or any one else really expect us to get excited just because it has an SE badge.

I won't buy a work in progress again that takes over 6 months to be stable and that apparently will get a new OS over year later as in reality that is the only way they can make it work well especially when it's spec wasn't cutting edge when launched although it was when announced.

@Dogmann
well said... The constant insinuation that "we" just get a kick out of dissing SE or are Nokia-freaks... It's so beside the point! I joined here as a bit of a SE-fan; I've done my fair bit of b*tching about 6680 which I had to use at work and hated... (by memory-extension I can't even look at N70................ ). I've critizised motos etc etc...
Simple fact is: since k750 SE have not touched my interest (o.k., occasionally, but after a thorough trial: nah...)... In addition I noticed that certain esato-veterans rarely get verbally attacked for owning and praising an n95 or blackberry or...
So at least for some aggressive(!)ly loyal SE-fans there seems to be a clear element of inferiority-thingy going on...I said "some"!!! I like this forum a lot and I'm sure there's gonna be a SE in the future I'll buy and recommend/defend - just not right now...

Posted by londonlad123
@dogmann

I suggested he wait till 8th May to see if he finds anything interesting to him then decide. I haven't asked you to buy any work in progress devices nor get excited about anything. Nor is calling nokia pokia is hardly running down a multi national business that requires condemnation. You've just taken it too seriously.

Hi londonlad123

I apologise i should not of addressed that at you as in fact it wasn't meant to be, it was intend for every one to read my apologies for my mistake.

@y - Y-not get the Nokia N95 mate

Honestly speaking the last good thing to come design wise from SE camp was the Z800/V800 that was a well thought out phone. I will also give some props to the W950i but a little to late in my opinion but a nice little all rounder.

I havent seen anythin either that makes me go ooohh be it spy photos or coming soon. SE seems to be workin on the old adage if it aint broke dont fix it...but with this industry you really got to try and test new things and this is where Nokia is now pippin SE.

Posted by shadoweaver
@maggflodd:

I agree. After the k750, I have not seen any phone that has truly caught my interest. Maybe it's just me, but the design of the new models (k550i, w880i, etc.) is a disappointment. When I first saw the spy photos of the k550i and w880i, I thought to myself: "These will never come out in the market; they're obviously fakes." Imagine my surprise when I saw the announcement of the release of these models. Anyway, I'm still hoping will come out with a mobile phone that can truly replace my k750i. I love my k750i, but nothing lasts forever, right? Or maybe I'll buy another k750i...

N95 Looks good............

Here are some pics taken with the N95

I'm a fan of both SE and Nokia. In our household we have eleven phones that are all still in use (we've almost never sold ours):

SE: T65, T610, K700, two K750, and K510
Nokia CDMA: 6235, 6155, 6275
Nokia GSM: E50
Moto: E398 and Pink V3 (snapped by a pickpocket few months ago from our daughter)

I used to think that Nokia's especially in the low to mid-end range are overpriced, have less features compared to the other brands in the same price range, and rather unfriendly UI. Two phones from Nokia have changed my opinion about the brand entirely: 6275i with built-in gps receiver, and recently bought E50: a low priced, features packed, DIY firmware upgradeable, reasonably fast, stable, versatile UI, spacious 70MB internal memory (more than N93i) with microSD slot, light and thin symbian 9.1 phone (only 1 g heavier than K750). The power of the symbian phone to do nifty things like transforming a phone into a webcam via bluetooth, read aloud inbox messages in my native language (Indonesian) while doing other tasks, watching high quality movies (xvid+mp3 encoded avi) created by smartmovie, turn the phone as answering machine, just to mention a few, trully amazes me. And I'm just getting to know about symbian in less than a week...

It seems that the empires has striked back, and before the return of the sneeric (SNE and ERIC), I'll stay in the grey side..

@londonlad - sorry: obviously, I didn't address you either (just as Dogmann didn't...) - you are a treoman in truth, so it wouldn't make SEnSE...

Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering...

Remember, a Jedi's strength flows from the Force. But beware. Anger, fear, aggression. The dark side are they. Once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny

E65 is a great phone, relatively cheap, and has all the features in the book

Posted by Y-not
I have started using SE mostlyl due to their clean and nice designs and nice menu structure (When I deal with Nokia, it just feels ackward and not so user friendly)

But when I consider getting a new phone, I would like something that is better than the one I currently have (ie w810i). So I would like some kind of operating system, wifi and 3G. And only choice looks like p990i, which I can t seem to get a hold of. Even for a top end product like that SE, did include EDGE and 3G together.

I am sure there will be some nice announcements on MAy 8th, but the date of announcement and date of realse can be far apart. So I might go for Nokia, unfortunately.

hehe. I'll be tasting the darkside myself in a few days, I'm trading an N70 for some work I've done for a cust, so it'll be interesting to pull that apart, inspect, interogate, and tweak something from the dark side!

Aparrently it has lot's of problems, but sounds like nothing a master reset or firmware flash won't fix.

Should be interesting.

But my K will remain my faithful loyal companion, the N70 will just be a ho to distract me for a few weeks

Posted by QVGA
u didnt choose the best of phones to test. choose a E60 which is very cheap, and you'll forget what the K750 looks like, unless ofcourse if you decide to dig up its grave

Hi Max,
Although the N70 is what got me hooked on S60 it is only 2nd Edition and really can't be compared with S60 3rd Edition the speed difference between them is huge IMO.

sorry guys but I'm not gonna spend my hard earned money on a Nokia!! Least of all something as expensive as an E series! I've done my research, and I'm not interested in any of the E series. The K750 still beats it for my needs (which includes atleast 2MP AF camera as a priority, and if I go for a smartphone, it must have a large screen and touchscreen, not a qwerty)

The only reason I'm "testing" the N70, is because I can get it from a customer for next to nothing as a trade-in on work I've done for them. So I'm not really parting with money for it. I'm looking forward to playing with it, but I'm fully aware N70 is behind the game now, but it's just what happened to fall into my lap

I'm not gonna waste my upcoming contract renewal on on a Nokia either, I'm planning to get the K800 (or K810 if available).

Sorry darkside guys I'm still a rock solid SE user.

Posted by Red_Rach
I'd love to have stayed a rock solid SE user, but they're releasing nothing that catches my eye and the time has come for me to move onto symbian. I'm bored of the limits Java has now.

@ Max,

Obviously i respect your right to choose and use what ever suits you best, I have never tried to convience any one to choose what i lke as that IMO is pointless. We are all indviduals and make our choices for our own reasons as it should be just can't stand all this slateing of a prouduct just because it doesn't havea certain badge rubbish.

hope you'll have fun with your "free" N70. I think you should explore what N70 can do over and above your K750.

hey mib, I know what it can do that my K750 can't, mainly that's a smartphone os so I can install sis apps, that's about it I don't use my main phone that way - that's what I use my XDA Mini for.

ps. I prefer the K750 camera over N70. (video doesn't really interest me that much)

@Dogman, you are absolutely right, and I'm not trying to convince anyone, just sharing my own preferences and reasons. I'm only joking about the darkside stuff btw, I wouldn't say no to an N95 and would use it as my phone but the fact is I can't afford one, and I'd still get irritated with it as a smartphone anyway (no touchscreen, and I really DON'T like the Nokia UI, but that also is just me). If I'm gonna spend that much money, at this stage I'll stick to a HTC style device (I prefer Windows Mobile over either Nokia or SE symbian interfaces)

@maggflod, make it an N95 and your on

Posted by *Jojo*
@batesie - Congrats on your N95 mate . . .

@max - I agree that the K750 captures sharper pics compared to the N70 . . . and with my experience now, you can also include the N90, or perhaps ALL the 2 MP camfones of Nokia !

Posted by BobaFett
n70 has no af, n90 cam - even its a cz - is disappointing too. but the video with nokias are far better as of k750i

Posted by *Jojo*
@boba - The Nokia N90 has AF mate . . . I do not appreciate much the video-features of the Nok's camfones . .. as I rarely USE the video, it's the cam most of the time . . .

Posted by BobaFett
i ment thet n70 has no af and wrote cz to n90, which means af to me, cos all cz featured fones has af... but at the end of the day, according quality, se wins, but at video the nokias. i really donnow hwere nokia gone wrong with cz, cos i feel more respect for cz, as for sony cams. i see as one of the few positives for se /// merge, that for fun pix they are the most developed. but i have to admit, that with some settings, even a 6680 with its 1.3 mp cam u can make some really good pix

Posted by maggflodd
@mr wedge,
"make it an n95 and you're on"....
Well, you can superglue the treo and n91 together... That'd give you 3.5mp cams, windows AND s60/3rd etc etc...but, aw-right, I'll keep'em

Posted by Y-not
I am happy to say the crisis is over as I was able to find a P990i for a really good price. So I have not entered the dark side.

I am mainly happy with it apart from couple of missing options

So my no Nokia history remains intact (for now)
