Sharp GX-10 vS. Panasonic GD-87

Hi !

has anyone used both the Sharp GX10 and the Panasonic GD-87?
I am wondering if both these phones can synchronize with MS-Outlook and send appointments, address etc.

I also wonder what, exactly, is in each box. I heard the Panasonic GD-87 has only the phone and charger but the Sharp GX10 has cables and a CD.

I am wondering about e-mail too. I think the Panasonic has space for 3 pop mail accounts but the Sharp is different. Have to tell Vodaphone about your own pop accounts and they route the mail through to the Vizzavi? account.

I heard the Sharp GX10 is Vodaphone only.. and the GX1 wwill be for O2.

If you have used both or one, please can you tell me good and bad points for each?

thanks,

ofiaich

uhh... tell us more about that gd99??? what is it going to look like, what features and all that... please.. TIA

imo, gd87 is way better than sharp... triband is a very important plus.. and it looks better...

gd99 is a flip phone with 60 polyfonic ringtones, and live the sharp and t68 it has a joysitc but with unlimited directions, like the 1 on xbox or gamecube.
its triband, biult n camera, 600k pixels camera
120k tft screen
out in 4q 2002

sniff, sniff... can you smell that? nah, wait... sniff sniff ah I know 'I smell shiiiit!'

Posted by mark.spiro old
no its not

"I am the main developer for panasonic"

surely if this were true, then shouldn't you have the intellect to reply with a better come back than 'no its not'

also if you are some hot shot main developer for panasonic what are you doing on here! shouldn't you be counting your money or driving in your ferrari that you managed to borrow cos vodafone love you and vodafone have ties with ferrari?

Posted by mark.spiro old
i only earn £30 000 pa and am the main developer for that phone ONLY! not all panasonic phones or even products, i left alcatel and joined then 5 weeks ago and was assigned to the gd99 straight away, there are 13 people working on it and 2 bosses, me and another guy
you may call me on at on 0773684508 for more info on the phone

Posted by unclesomebody
well, i believe you, because i have no reason not to believe you... not yet anyway.

I'm interested in this new phone. If it shipping within the next 6 weeks it must be at the stage of fully working prototype. Any pictures of the unit? what network will it be launched on? more detailed pics would be good...

cheers

Posted by mark.spiro old
shipping in 3-4q 2003!
a prototype not finished as software not done yet, this is the first 12 weeks of it development, we might takaway bluetooth and the clamshell design

p.s. it will look v.similar to the gd87 though

Posted by unclesomebody
ah, ok. that makes way more sense. i wondered why they would be releasing a better phone so soon!

What kind of battery are you planning to use? with the 120K tft screen it will be really sapping on the power. bluetooth is an essential tool i think, keep it!

look forward to hearing news on this phone...

any sketches or design specific pics, i know it might not look like the final version at this point, but can you supply something just to get an idea... i mean its a long time away, but sounds very good... please provide some stuff... thanx.

thanks for your reply... I know - mr. izumi koketsu, managing director, panasonic house, willerby road, bracknell , berkshire, rg12 8fp

I'll ask him about the gd-99....!

I guess all your testing is done 'in-house'

I found this site... but I do not understand the language

http://www.miccom.cc/handy/smsbilder/extrahinweise.html

panasonic eb-gd99

What?? 60 channels poly, is that even possible?! And if it is, shouldn't it be like 56 or 64 not 60???

Having compared both phones, the Panasonic GD-87 is better than the Sharp GX-10 in a number of ways, although the Sharp is slightly narrower, it is also a little fatter when the clam-shell design is closed - but that is a matter of preference as they weight about the same.

Technically the Sharp is ony dual-band, the Panasonic tri-band. The Sharp has a slightly bigger screen and slightly higher resolution. The Sharp however can take higher resolution pictures (but still far short of the MCA-20's VGA resolution). The Panasonic has an infrared port that actually works and can transfer pictures to and from a PC, the Sharp does however come with a PC cable. The Panasonic has an email client that can view image attachments, the Sharp does not even have an email client.

Probably best if you go and search for more info on the web and decide for yourselves.

As for the Panasonic GD-99, I don't know the specs. of this phone but it sounds pretty plausible compared to other phones in development.

Am I right about what's in the box?

Phone and charger for Panasonic... and more for Sharp?

Good spot. The next step up from the 40 (32+8 wavetable) poly used on most japanese handsets is the 64 poly chip used by Tu-ka in Japan.
Also, I don't see anyone producing a '120k tft' screen.
In Japan, the jump has been from 65k to 262k.
I'm just really skeptical of this guy, telling us his (rather piss-poor for a 'main developer') salary, inviting us to call him for more info and generally spilling the beans on a top-secret project.
If hes telling the truth, hes not employee of the month, thats for sure!!

Yeah that's what I thought too! I bet he's a really smooth talker when you call him, and he'll probably try to give you a "special deal" on the phone....

Cophia, you have not researched these phones obiviously!!
The panasonic has a bigger screen, but only by a few pixels!! that is a fact. I am not sure about the resolution, but i persume that they are roughly about the same. yes the Panasonic has an email client, and i have used it sucessfully, you only get the phone and a rapid charger in the box with the panasonic, i'm not sure what you get in the box with the sharp, i've used the phone, but not got my hand's on the box.
the sharp has java, for downloading app's and games, the panasonic has a thing called "ExEn" by in-fusio. it is a java based software, but only for downloading game, it is called the EnEx (executable engine).
the panasonic looks better, the sharp is very "boxy" looking. and the camera is in the outer corner of the shell, I'd be affraid of it getting damaged.
Check out some reviews on the web for more detailed spec.
To my knowledge, the panasonic has a better battery life.
on the vodafone sheet, the panasonic has Long Battery Life, where there is not mention of this on the specs of the sharp.
with the Panasonic, it all depends on how much you use it(like any fone.) I've gotten 3 day's out of it no problem, with out using the camera, and 2 full day's with messing with the camera fairly regualy.
I only have it a week, the panasonic that is, so it should no be reaching it's full battery capacity.

Check it out yourself, but i personally prefer the panasonic, for looks, and battery, and slightly bigger screen.

more pixels means bigger res... so if gd has more pix (i am not sure, cause i never looked at sharp, with it being dualband and me being in america) so pana has res of 132x176... thats the res, number of pixels horisontaly times vertically... so, if sharp has a smaller screen the resolution is smaller as well...

for me, i don't like the looks of sharp.... and many other things...

thanks to all for your replies..

I'll read more and go to a Voda shop and play with them for a good while!

I think the Panasonic doesn't sync to Outlook Express though I can see in a pdf manual -

Sending Data.

The types of data you can send are: Phone Book, My Profile, Scheduler, Camera, Sound, File and Data folder.

Does anyone know exactly what is included in the Scheduler and File and Data folder?

thanks!
Ofiaich

Posted by [MDS]
in data folder there are ringtones and pics....

Posted by ofiaich
thanks [MDS].

Does the Scheduler folder hold appointments and tasks to do etc?

Can the Panasonic gd-87 synch with Outlook Express in the same way as the T68 does?

Ofiaich

Posted by [MDS]
i never tried any of that and never bothered to look in the scheduler... so i can't possibly say... sorry dude...
but i am pretty much sure it syncs....

Posted by ofiaich
thanks!! I'll check it out on the net and in the shops!

I think I speak for more than myself here when I say...
Get a grip!
Ok, your the chief designer, well done!
Do you see any other chief designers at your company on web forums? bragging about their prototypes? Does it sound like something your boss would approve of?
Is the answer to all of the above no?
Good now go back to your desk and carry on designing the phone.

The sharp does not come with a databcable!!! That was the reason why I took mine back! No way to transfer via Ir, databacable and dont even talk about bluetooth.

Hello All,

A couple of quick things to get this whole GD99 thing dealt with ...

quick_org_69 - this guy does NOT work at Panasonic, I know, because I've checked.

@quick_org_69 - by all means post your true mobile number, I'll be able to tell in 30 secs whether you do work for Panasonic or not - I know you don't, and so my suggestion would be to not continue to make false posts claiming you do.

bye
