@Red_Rach

Firstly congratulations on your new device, my advice to you for a necessary app is Best Taskman as IMO it is the best Task Manager and will aid you in running your device smoothly as it is a well known fact that Symbian 9.1 is Ram hungry and requires some monitoring and control, although it is not free it is excellent and well worth the money.

I would also recommend Fring for both Voip and IM and this free app supports Skype, Google and MSN and is also excellent. Also their is a free Nokia Podcast app that allows you download voice and video podcast over WiFi or your Network. I assume your phone came with the search app which searches both the web locally or your device if not this is easily downloaded as is good or alternatively if you PM me a n E-Mail address i can send you the original which just searches your phone either all of it or just where you specify. Handy Clock is an excellent app if you need or want Multiple alarm functions, and that besides a free screen shot app and a black theme are all i have installed along with Tom Tom but i believe this won't work on your device with the inbuilt GPS yet.

Sorry Boba but you are wrong the N95 is a Symbian 9.1 device running S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 1 not a Symbian 9.2 as there are no 9.2 devices released yet.

to be honest, i did the search before

http://my-symbian.com/s60v3/review_n95.php

look here at the bottom of the page and this isnt the only site it says 9.2

@Dogmann
well this is confusing. Even Nokia's own website seems to think it's Symbian v9.2!
http://forum.nokia.com/devices/N95

Have you got any links to technical specs. which definitely say it's v9.1?

W.

Doggmann..

It is confusing but it is so. S60 3rd edition phones with Feature pack 1 use Symbian 9.2 os

Posted by voda_jon
yeh it seems on the nokia forum as well the official line is Symbian V9.2 or Series 60 3rd Edition with FP1...

now, the question is, if former apps will work on n95

Posted by Dogmann
Hi all,

It does appear i am wrong so as usual when this happens i unreservedly apologise for my mistake and accept that i am wrong. I was sure that when i first read it the only difference was that it was Feature Pack 1 but now accept i must of read it wrong again apologies to all.

Marc

Posted by BobaFett
its not your mistake actually, if u do the search on google,, for both os pops up n95

Posted by Dogmann
Hi Boba,

To be honest i am just very confused as some places say one thing some say another. For now and for accuracy all i will say is it is S60 3RD Edition with Feature Pack 1.

Marc

How very humane and HUMBLE of you Dogmann Just always remeber that nobody is PERFECT, NOT even Bill Gates

@red - Post some pics please dude . . . taken from it's 5 Mp cam . . .

Posted by Red_Rach
I'll get some taken tomorrow!

Do I need an anti virus for this phone as well or is it not nessisary?

Posted by *Jojo*
@red - We very all know that Nokia-Symbian based phones can easily acquire virus from external forces . . . I guess it's NO nedd to put one, just don't OPEN your BLUTOOTH much often in PUBLIC-places . . . and try transmitting messages (MMS) ONLY from KNOWN-people as much as possible. Good Luck with the pictures mate . . .

build quality is good actually..everything is sturdy.the camera lens cover mechanism is a bit stiff though.

Posted by Bambino
hmm now i get confused what should i get n95 or e90

@Red_Rach

I would strongly advise against installing any anti virus or fire wall as unless you actually give something permission to install you are safe. Just don't install things from unknown or untrusted sources and you should be fine. Also installing Av or Fire wall will drastically reduce the performance of your device IMO.

@nokiamaniax imo n75 offers a more comforteable usage... i tested once 9500 and 9300, both are great devices, aslong u have a desk with u on the street, those are useless at browsing etc imo

Posted by QVGA
@boba
i think you mean N95, although N75 looks an excellent phone.

Posted by BobaFett
yeah, sorry for the typo, i ment n95. next to it the wide screen isnt for my taste or i just got used to the square ones maybe...

I know quite a bit about Symbian OS and S60 in particular. One thing I want to say is - There is no way one can install a virus on a S60v3 ! I am not prepared to go into details and explain why not - for now take it from me. Hopefully one of us may crack the key licencing some day but for now . . . I already have 27 'viruses' (tweaked and otherwise) for the 'old' S60. As I have pointed out previously (on this forum and others) 'Viruses and symbian' is nowere near the same as 'viruses and windows'! With the v3 Nokia has completely shut down the last 'enjoyment' of programming something to do other than what is supposed to do. So please, all the S60v3 users leave your bluetooth on, receive lots of email attachements and try installing anythig which may be a virus - and if you struk it lucky and get infected for real let me know (email and other contacts are at the bottom of this message). I will pay cash for anyone who manages to accomplish such a feat - he will be indeed a 'genius'. Only requirement - No hardware changes should be neccessary to get the virus installed and also no firmware changes other then the official ones! For now not even Dominique HUGO (well known symbian/s60 programmer) has figured out a way of accesing the 'forbiden' folders without Nokia's consent

@mario

even virus on pre-9 OS is over-rated. The only chance you can get it is to install a virus program.

getting infected via BT or email is very unlikely, unless you accept every connection without opening your eyes.
