Nice. Laptops can be a bit big sometimes but that is just right. Not ideal as a main computer but good for on the move communications and quick word processing etc.

agreed. I was so tempted by the TX5 when I recently chose the new SZ4 vaio, and that came with a HSDPA express card (like a smaller version of PCMCIA), but something like this could almost tempt me away from windows mobile
the latest crop of WM6 and UMPC devices are starting to make the choice very difficult

Ahhh but does it make voice calls?
If so it best support BT headset profiles as I don't fancy putting that next to my ear!!

well in an emergency maybe but I certainly wouldn't hold my 13.3" vaio up to my ear! and I don't even ever remember making a call on my jasjar which was only 4", except through BT or speaker phone

Well this is using Vista Business, HTC probably have something to make it take SIMs.
Now will this be what an average person will use 3-4 years from now for a phone, with Bluetooth obviously. Some places, developing world, wireless technologies are going to outpce land connections. HSDPA is easily 3.6Mbps we in Egypt mostly can't get 3Mbps DSL, at least while keeping all our organs.

its no different, I guess, to adding gprs/3g caabilities to a pc.
my latest vaio came with an express card (like a smaller pcmcia) which takes a sim card and I use htis whenever not in wifi range

This 'obviously' isnt for making calls, too big to be called totally portable, and probably 2x more expensive than conventional thin laptops. So whats the point of it?

I use a UMPC and not a laptop, they are about 1/3rd the size and weight and easily fit in your jacket map pocket

not every device that you talk via has to be held up to your ear. This has bluetooth, for example.
Even when I had the JasJar, I rarely held it up to my face to make calls so I certainly wouldn't be attempting it with this.
pricing (eg Clove) indicates it will be competitive with UMPC prices although it has full Windows Vista and a cut down version of windows mobile for messaging and calendar.
This second part means you can get quick access to emails or meeting info without a full boot and by using less power
