my mum's thinking of going over to sky because it works out cheaper and we'll have 16MB.

only thing is people i know with it are having problems like its not working with certain pages. is the down to sky or there computers? also i'm wireless is that goin to be a problem?

is anyone on sky who can offer opinions?

i m with sky broadband and there very good. unless you live next to the exchange you wont get 16mb downloads.
as for web pages not working not had this problem myself i know it was an issue with sky to begin with but its getting sorted out. people keep emailing the odd site thats a problem and its sorted, i myself have never noticed any web page problems

Yeh, I remember reading somewhere that if you live more than 300mtr from your local exchange, you won't get get top speed. I live like 2miles from my local exchange and I only get 4-5mb/s out of the 8 I can get.

Anyone on talk talk broadband? I'm thinking of going for the talk talk3; phone calls and broadband for £19.99 p/m includes line rental.

You get 8mb broadband and unlimeted calls.

Any opinions?

we use talk talk in the shop at work... never and probs! cheap phone bills to! fast downloads to!

i think i will be going to sky at home

Steer clear of ADSL.

With Virginmedia you get what you pay for, its direct and its unlimited unlike ADSL broadband which goes through a crappy copper telephone line with silly caps or restrictions dependent on how far you live away from the telephone exchange .

In June 10MB will be 20MB, next step is 50MB there after.

they all have caps even virgin media but most chose not to impliment them. sky offers unlimited subject to fair use, which most say in the small print. my dad uses virgin media and they are good for speed and relablity but not every area has cable and not everyone wants another cable and holes drilled in the walls which you dont need with a bt line.
do virginmedia cable modems do wireless out of the box now ?

We have Virgin media Phoneline and broadband,

with Sky and them at war with each other im staying put who the hell watches lost/24/ or whatever it is they have anyways.

Sky run via BT they are bloody con merchants,
why go through the middleman when you have everything direct from one supplier.

So virgin media is a good one to go for? May do that, its the same price as talk talk isn't it?

That can be said for Sky too as not everyone wants a dish stuck on there house as it looks a tad tacky.

With virginmedia you also dont pay bt anything as your line rental is in your virginmedia bill, so no 2 separate bills.

As for if the modems wireless, no you need a DSL router (Cable router)

As for price, well if you have 3 services with them your get a good deal out of them and after the contract your get a loyalty reduction or you can always f them off to put it simply

I'm getting a better deal than Sky could offer plus I'm not feeding money into the Murdock empire

What Skys pulling of Sky News and Sky One has done for me is given all Sky Movie and all Sky Sports channels for free. I'd rather watch that than Sky One and as for news well there are other news channels.

Virginmedia rules.

we had alot of problems when we were with NTL before. i know its changed to virginmedia now and the service is prob better. but my mum wont want to go back to them even if it was free. so thats not really an option

Virgin offer 3 packages when it comes to broadband I was on there £25 4MB package previousley but I toned it down to the 2MB which is £17.99 per month.. you know why I did this?

Cos a few months down the line Virgin Update you will get 4MB for £17.99.

there have really good customer services ive never had any probs and they've always came out extremely quick if you had a problem

ive heard that Sky charge you to comeout after so many months when your equipment is still not under warranty is that correct?

Virgin don't charge you for nowt...

There alot better... you should go to them

i m not disagreeing with you just offering an alternative view, depends what you want out of your service.
ive had sky plus for 3 years now i d only be able to get this with virgin in my area now. also virigin in my area only started broadcasting skymovies in widescreen 2 years ago were i d been recieveing them for 4 years plus.
the main reason for me is dolby digital surround sound something that really makes the difference.also the tv guide with sky is second to none last time i was playing with my dad virgin box sky movies 1 was followed by 7 not 2 not hugely important but its the little things
as for paying murdock you are just via virgin you dont think he gives virgin sky movies and sky sports for nothing thats why they lost sky one and the other channels over the money to show them on there platform.

i do agree sky is expensive when you add the bt phone line into the equation and i d like to see virgin do well as it might encourage sky to look at there pricing
