Have a T-mobile branded k800i. The really annoying thing is that I keep on inadvertently pressing the internet shortcut key instead of the nearby keys. Does anyone know how to disable this key?

The only thing that you could do is to unbrand your phone, and update to the latest available version using SEUS.
You will then need to keep the internet button for about 2 seconds to activate it.

There are several thteads on Esato about the internet button, and how to disable it by mapping it to an address that is located on the phone instead of on the internet. Start the webbrowser, press right softkey, select navigate/enter address and type in the address of a file located in the phone. It's either file:///usb/When the file is opened, then press right sofkey, select tools/add bookmark and press save. Then open the bookmarks list, locate the newly saved bookmark, press more, select "use as startpage".
This will cause the internet button to display the picture of your girlfriend rather than connecting to the internet.
You can also set the mapping of the button by entering the internet connection settings / internet profiles/
Another idea would be to map the button to the url "mailto:" which would open the email/send new email window.
