Thanks a lot man it works....

This is completely WRONG, Please everybody never try to do that and beleive me that is not going to help you at all !!!!

Why Not? Those JoySticks really end up pissing people off if they can't get them repaired..at least they have some hope of bringing sanity back into their life.

I nearly went mental when my K700i started doing it. My K700i keypad went dodgy, so stopped using it. I've since got a known working KeyPad, so am going to give this trick a try on my old phone.

Hope my K810i doesn't go the same way

The method described by the first poster does work. It's quite easy to take the cover off and adjust the four plates. My down direction joystick didn't work well (missed half the time). Now, after the fix, the down direction only misses 10% of the time. Have fun.

fortunately my joystick haven't gone wrong even once after 11 months...i love my k800...

although i've already tried this method, didn't do it completely,i was just curious,so i pulled out the cover, interesting, lighting is more impressing without that cover keys

Thanks conzepth for this great guide.
Although I haven't tried it (only got my phone for less than half a yr and it's still working fine), this method seems simple and practical, exactly what I'm looking for

actually, i can do the first 4 process without the need of scissor.
just use your fingernail to open the cover gently....
then make sure there's no scratch made on the softkeypad and joystick cover.

then i just cleanup everything up there, and put all in (soft keypad) except the joystick cover. it's good now, althou it looks ugly.
but at least no scratch in my phone at its 8th month.
(like 1st poster pic number 2, after thorough cleaning at the area.)

It works guys..thnx for the tip.
if u scared scrathing the phone..just use paper clip, paper clip don't have sharp edges.

I fix SE joystick based phones by cleaning the module with a non-staining liquid(mixed it with an alcohol) that and later on sealing it around with something to prevent the dust to get inside it i've dont this 3 weeks ago up to now my joystick never becomes irresponsive

Posted by skylineR35
@ijaljail
actually nail also become handy because its not sharp and "you carry it everywhere"

i wonder how much is the joystick 'cap' price in SESC cause mine is no longer scratchless at the edge. anyone knows?

when my joysitck acts funny i kinda just put my phone up to my mucth and blow air intothe lil joystick part. and it seems to work fine after that:) lol

I did just like you did, not with the scissor...of course, i used two screwdrivers ( flat type 1,8mm and 2,4mm ) and it works!!
no scratch, no trace, no trouble...just an improved joystick!!

thanks for the tips man! works for me.

does this also works for K810????

i've seen a thread like this at SE-NSE but it stated there that it only works for K800..

anyone tried this tutorial with a K810??

I tried it and it worked, but I agree it's a little risky.
It sucks when the joystick doesn't work properly, but thanks to this guide, it's working great now.
Thank you.

Thanks for conzepth! My joystick works like a charm again.

Only problem I have now is that I just bought a C905 to replace the K800 because of the worn joystick, which is working like new again .

Thanks!

Just the tutorial I was looking for.

Works perfectly - my joystick was taking upto 20 attempts to move to the right in a menu but after following this tutorial it works 100% of the time! Thanks very much!!!

I had been thinking of getting a new phone but now i'll be keeping this until something more permanent goes wrong.

Thanks again!

It worked for me, my K800 is a beautiful phone and I couldn't bear to replace her just because the joystick kept sticking... my own stupid fault for playing too many stupid games...

Thank you so much, it took all me all of 5 minutes to fix and the joystick is much more accurate when running the keyboard test (95% vs 50%)

Is the K800 the successor to the K750?

In a way, yes. It's one of many in a long row of similar phone models, starting with T610 with built-in camera, radio, media player and big display. K700 is another model, with bigger display than before and with more internal memory. K750 was the first model that supported memory card (MemoryStick Duo).
K700i had the very same problem with worn-out joystick and I'm sorry so say, that like with the K700i, a malfunctioning joystick may not always be repaired by the method described in this thread. It may help a bit, but if the phone is taken care of by a SonyEricsson service center, the joystick contact mechanism will be soldered out and replaced by a new one. Furthermore, the method described here to remove the front with a pair of scissors actually breaks the front panel, since the spare part for the keyboard, which is mounted from the inside of the housing, comes in one single piece that shouldn't be taken apart.

And sorry about my english!

This is the thread for which i registered here at ESATO because it required to login in order to see pics in the first post. That time i had k800i.

Later the cover was so loosen up that sometimes it would come out just like that.

Basics of getting to the joystick work for the K510i though the surround to joystick seems a bit more fiddly trying to replace as there are two off set plastic pins that need locating - took ages for my old fingers! Sadly though cleaning and tightening didn't make it work and I still can't get the joystick to select the main menu and navigate or navigate down the call list. Somehow its not making connections. Any further suggestions before I go to a repair centre would be appreciated. Thanks Goodreader

The problem I had was that when I went down with the joystick it would often click, which is a kind of a problem when you scroll your contacts ... I skipped step 4, just done a clean and it works fine now ! Thanks a lot.
