Hi,
My K800i just suddenly did not switch back on the other day! I have been on the Sony Ericsson website and gone through all the steps to check the battery and nothing works! The battery works in another phone and the only sign of life is a red LED flashing in the infared port? Plugging it in overnight and still does not come on!¬
Can anyone help, the info on this phone is extremely important! If any updates are needed will the info be lost i.e. text msgs?

Sounds like a software problem, and that the phone needs it's software reflashing. Have you tried doing an update via the Sony Ericsson Update Service?
Try that first and see how you go on, if that doesn't work it will need a full reflash - in which case it might be an idea to contact wherever you got the phone from to get it repaired (should be under warranty) or get it sent off to SE.

The red LED in the IR port usually flashes at low battery, (on almost all
models btw, if not in the IR port, there usually is a small lens near the power-on switch). When you connect the charger cable, are you sure it makes proper contact? Do you see the "charging" icon in the display? It is a known problem with phones that the charger cable does not make proper contact with the contacts on the phone, thus not charging despite the cable looks like it is connected. Make sure the contact surfaces are clean. Try blowing away dust with pressurized air, or maybe clean with a cloth and some ethyl alcohol. Yank the contact a little bit up and down when it is in position to make sure it is properly connected.

Having read these, im obviously not the only one with this problem!
Now basically, i was given the phone (its an operator-free version) so its not covered with my o2 contract and i also dont have any of the USB cables or CD/software.
The phone was fully charged.
When i plug in the charger there is not battery signal on the screen
I dont think the charger is broken as it was used 30 mins before.
The battery works in someone elses model
When i mentioned the info on it was important, i was not joking! Im being harrassed and need to get the messages off as evidence which is why i cant send it off to SE as everything will be wiped.
If i do this software download from SE and somehow manage to get the cables / software from somewhere... will the info be lost anyway or will it just start up in the same state as when it died???
Also, i read someone shorted the connections in the phone with a spoon to get rid of the trapped current???? Is this an advised option to try or was the guy just at the end of his teather with the dam thing!! Will it do any further damage?

If you do a firmware update it shoudn't wipe all the info off the phone, though a full reflash will do. Data cables are cheaply available off Ebay for a few quid, and the software downloadable for free of SE's website.

Sorry, but before i do anything can you confirm what 'firmware' update is? Is this the 'Sony Ericsson Update Service' download from the website or is this the full reflash one?

Yes, the software update is via the Sony Ericsson Update Service and it shouldn't wipe all your info, it hasn't on phones I've updated anyway!

Updating firmware via SEUS won't solved your problem. You need EROM version update provided by third party like Kulan/Wotan/DVT. It is free although you may need at least 1 credit in the account but it won't be used up. Your data is saved with EROM update.
However you need to try whether their client can still see your phone first when you plug the cable. Otherwise your only option is service centre.
Do NOT update your FIRMWARE through third party (kulan/wotan/DVT)though as it will completely wipe out your text message! Updating firmware via SEUS is save (as it is part update and will retain your data) but it may not solved your problem as this problem usually caused by old EROM version.
Firmware and EROM are two DIFFERENT THING! Read again the link I gave to you carefully. Latest EROM is R3A016 and latest firmware is R1JG001.

Oh dear, the irony! I've just tried to replace a faulty charger connector in my K800i and I now have exactly the same problem as you! Tried testing a different screen in the phone when partially reassembled, screen flashed white on and off and I now get a flashing LED and no other signs of life....
Will take my own advice and try a firmware update, let me know how you get on!

I've just tried doing a firmware update on mine but it's not recognising the phone, and I suspect you will have the same problem.
I got to the stage where it tells me to hold the 'C' key and plug the USB connector in, and it won't go any further - a red LED flashes when I plug the lead in, that's it.
As a previous poster has said, it looks like I'd have to go to a third party like Wotan to get it flashed - though I might just sell the thing as faulty and get another!

I downloaded SEUS and have gone through the Flash menu, to where its says plug in the USB cable and press and hold 'c' but nothing happens?
Iv also downloaded the PC suite (i dont have the CD) as another post says it needs it to recognise the phone but this doesnt help.
If anyone can talk me through it, please you would be saving my life! Iwill call you back obviously... 020 8253 0360.

Sounds like you (like me!) would have to either sell the phone on or go to someone like Wotan and flash the phone that way and update the EROM.
I can't help you there unfortunately, software is a bit weakpoint of mine and I'm not sure if you can do this with the standard USB cable or if you need a 'cruiser' cable (which you can get fairly cheaply off Ebay).
As I'm a chicken I'm going to probably just sell the current phone and go buy a replacement phone, I luckily recieved a W900i today in a separate trade so can use that in the time being!

Yeah this happen that is why I ask you to test whether any of the third party client can still recognize your phone.
You may tried to take the batt out for longer time (5-10min) or short the batt connector in the phone body. I have no idea why some ppl has problem getting the phone to be recognized by SEUS or third party client when it is having problem. You may also try to take the batt our for more than 24hr.
Also make sure the batt is full. You may need to charge your batt using other phone because maybe your phone can't charge the batt in its current condition.

It should work with standard DCU-60 cable that come with the phone. Problem is some ppl have difficulty in getting the phone to be recognised by client. No one knows exactly why but I suspect it has something to do with the batt not full enough or the batt is not taken out long enough (some residual current still on the phone).

Hanugro - I have downloaded the Wotan 0.9.995 version? and am charging the battery at the moment as it turned out to be dead! Hopefully when i next connect the phone it will actually recocnise it!?
How do i know that when i try and connect it again it will restore the EROM and not the frimware??

Mine's still as dead as a doornail, left the battery out for 20 mins and still now power, will try for a bit longer now and see if I have any better luck.
One thing I don't understand though is how my taking the phone apart would cause a software problem?

i have a w810i that i got to power up, the moment i switched it off and pulled the battery out to change the sim, it mucked up the software. when i put the battery back in it flashed 1 white screen then went off.
i reflashed it using Wotan and all is fine now. it only costs a fiver to flash it via wotan. i recommend wotan, it was easy to flash the phone (easier than i thought!)
EDIT: i saw your post on the cables, i used the DCU-60 to flash it (the cable that came with the phone)

Got it working! Decided to pluck up the courage to download the Wotan programme, connect my K800i to it and bingo! It's working!
It automatically updated the phone's EROM when I connected it, didn't cost me any credits. I'd bought a couple just in case I needed them, though don't think it used it.
The text messages are still on the phone as are all my settings, pics etc. By the way, the client programme will tell you to hold down 'C' when you connect your data cable, that won't work - press and hold 2 and 5 simultaneously as you then plug the cable in, it should then work. The EROM update took all of 4 seconds!
Big relief!

When you update EROM you must press 2 and 5 button in the phone together instead of c button. Please read again the link that I gave to you earlier. It should have enough info on how to do it on wotan courtesy of machanic. I used kulan when I upgrade my EROM.

Maybe a static? This problem also seems to occur when ppl changing sim card or letting the batt run out of juice by itself while the phone is still on. I also have no idea but usually it happen with older EROM R3A011.

Hi Sammy_boy, congrat to your phone. What did you do that make the phone get recognised with wotan client? Does it need longer time to take the batt out (how long?) Or did you short the internal batt? Please share with us as some ppl seems still have problem to get the phone recognised by the update client! Cheers.

Im getting a bit further now, the computer is recognising the phone when it plugs in, so thats progress!!
When i run Wotan though, this is what i see;

Its working!!!! Just left the login and password blank and.... bingo, twas done in 5 secs! Just as you guys promised, hold 2&5 and its just does its thing! all the text messages and contacts are still there!

Well why don't you just buy 1 credit? Anyway you can always sell it to your frien who wants debtrand their phone. Or who knows they want to change the phone language! These can only done with third party client. But it voids warranty!

Guys,
Well, i was so happy yesterday that the phone was working, but there seems to be a problem still...
When i get a missed call it doesnt show up on the missed calls list and also when i make a call it is not coming up as first on the dialled list!??
Text messages come through and save, show date, time etc fine!
Is this a further software problem with the phone and can it be fixed?

OK - so I did the EROM update using Wotan, the phone won't come on after being told to take the battery out "for a while" HOW LONG is a WHILE anyways? Someone mentioned dismanteling the phone - does that help? My phone is a brick at the moment and I'd rather get it back in working condition hopefully without having to send it off anywhere ( no warranty - prototype )
PS - I do get the red IR LED to blink twice when trying to power on the phone and when holding 2 and 5 and plugging in the phone while Wotan's running, it connects to the phone but then it quickly errors out with SEMCSEC error 3.
Anyone else with similar problem? I'm hopeful because at least the phone is being recognized by the computer and Wotan can sort of talk to it...

I just used wotan and it updated my phone in 5 seconds and all my files are still here: pics,
texts etc...
i had to buy and account from wotan with 1 credit for 7 euros around £5.50 and then once they sent me the username and password i put it in the box in the bottom right hand corner then i inserted the usb into the computer then clicked start then inserted the other end of the usb to my phone and wotan done its stuff. thanks for having these forums up as i learnt how to fix my phone from this i hope my informaion was helpful in some way.
