Can anybody please tell me why only 8080 port is used in nokia phones, irrespective of the service provider. Why do some brands have 9201, 9401, 8799 etc. ports.
And some phones even don't have provision for manually setting ports, the port option is not there.

hi....
not all nokia phones work on port 8080....usually the phones with a html or xhtml browser use the port 8080 when it uses a proxy address... the port 8080 is an alternative for HTTP(80)....
as for the 9200 series ports are usually used by handsets having lower end browsers.... these ports can carry wap connectionless, connection oriented ,secure or non-secure WSP data.......
some phones hav the ability to work on different ports , while some dont.... thats y u wont b able to manully confiure the proxy ports in few mobile

If i use any port other than 8080, it says "connection not available". What is the problem. As per your post it should still connect, although it may not display or can be insecure. Can you explain in detail, please.
