Hmmm, ok. So with the Pearl I have in front of me, the answer is no, I can't use this particular one for e-mail right now :/

As for the 7100x when I get it, I'm guessing that'll be de-activated/de-linked etc, or else I can just ask Marc on here I guess. Seems odd you can't just do it online or something :/

Posted by fatreg
^ sort of stops people stealing them etc!

Posted by Daedalus85
Well, yeah, but I wanna play lol

So I'm guessing cause this one is registered to O2, and there property, I can't do anything with this one. So should I hope that Marc has link his account to a newer one therefore knocking the old one off yes?

Posted by fatreg
Marc_SE has a BB so I would guess the 7100x has been kicked off yes!

as for the 8100 you have.. call o2 and give em the pin number, they may be able to give you the username if you explain you work for o2 and are trying to demo it to a biz customer or something?

Posted by Daedalus85
Ahh, good thinking Mr.FatReg, I shall do that tommorow

And while I'm on that (off topic here, sorry), just curious now (again!), but why fatreg? Your names not reg from what I gather

Posted by fatreg
ahh the age old question!

mais non, I'm not called Reg although I am rather portly, but it's fatreg and not fat reg

all stems back to the beginning of High school..

and or to the start and you get orfatreg, spell that backwards and you get gertafro or gert afro, gert meaning big and afro well you know what an afro is, back at school i had a fascination with said hair dos and as a result fatreg was born in a year 8 Geography lesson.

Posted by Daedalus85
Lol, I love interesting name stories like that, mine was a far more boring tedious by obvious outcome style approch when I was about 15 I think.

Posted by fatreg
if only I knew what dadaelus meant!

Posted by Daedalus85
I think I'm going to make my own Wiki for this, I feel like I've explained it hundreds of times (not here I mean, just in general ).

Ok, Daedalus was the guy in Greek mythology who designed the maze that kept the Minotaur in. When it got out, Daedalus tried to flee the island with his son, Icarus. Being an inventor of sorts, he built two pairs of wings from feathers and wax. He told Icarus not to fly too close to the sun (duh!) or else the wings would melt and well, he'd die. They set off, Icarus being cocky flew too close, wings melted, fell to his death.

Daedalus made it across

I chose the name because I like Greeky mythology names, and it was the name of a character in Deus Ex (he was the good AI computer, Icarus was the bad one, and they merge at the end to become Helios).

It's funny, in movies you see the name Icarus being plastered on ships (Matrix Trillogy, that one recently about 'rebooting' the sun as well, Sunshine I think it was called.) But they always crash, I wonder why...

Posted by fatreg
ah! Greek mythology.. not my field!

but ta for the expalnation

I guess I could have googled if it's been explained before!

Posted by Daedalus85
I find my explination is best sometimes, cause there are longer versions out there

Oh, and just wanted to say to all, in 29 minutes, this thread will be 1 year old! Happy Birthday Blackberry users!!

Posted by fatreg
although we are in fear of turning it into a chat thread!!

think I need to update my OS, my BB seems to keep rebooting... (seems to! I might be being a plank!)

Posted by Daedalus85
Funny, I posted a reply FROM the BB Pearl last night, and it's not here now

Anyway, prolly due to the problem I was posting about! I was saying, how can I get the browser to look browser like and not all squashed up? Whats the best settings in the browser options to make pages look as close to my PC as possible?

Posted by Burgaz
I've no had a pearl so I can't really help with that?

My curve has a Desktop view option which makes the display much more pc like.

Anyways I was just wondering what font everyone uses and is there a way of installing new fonts? If so does anyone recommend any?

Posted by fatreg
BB Clarity size 8 for me.

install new ones!? are they however many that are on it not good enough?

Posted by Daedalus85
Well I tried both desktop and handheld, and I've tried the option to emulate IE and Blackberry browsers, but their all a bit funny when looking at this forum, dunno why :/

If its the work 8100 you're talking about; lets first figure out the firmware. I had the oldest intial release of the firmware and the one's that also included the better desktop browser view (like S60's browser Map view).
In the browser Menu key> Desktop View or there should be another view MiniMap ? (its been a while so sorry if not too accurate). This should squish the view so small you cannot read the text. BUT should have a box that allows for FAST scrolling on the top right corner of the screen the is ZOOMED in. once clicked bang you're in full desktop view. Unless you'd rather the endless scrolling ? regular desktop view ... which I think has been abolished on BB's since last June (2007).

Let us know what you find? Also check Browser> Menu> Options General Settings?

@fatfreg, Reggie (Reg part?) .... so you used to kick Afrolistics too back in the day? (early 80's, lol)? Did you also have a Mifisto Pick? Man I missed those days, and my JVC Ghetto Blaster.

Dummy phones, to my recollection are always sealed via glue ... I'm unsure if the case can be cracked carefully to acquire the keypad. Also will the keypad have the "nubs" underneath to interface the input pad beneath the real Pearl 2?

Question to all 8120 owners: How good is the WiFi reception on your home WiFi Router - as in range away from it (are you in a house/apartment/condo)?? Also are you set to 802.11b / g / a or b/g both or just a by itself?

Thanks. Much appreciated.

I use Casual (8) font although moved away from Clarity (8).

On a Pearl i guess its depends also....

I wonder why they called the spaceship Daedalus on SG-1 lol
btw yeah I recall you explaining this before

Posted by Prom1
pretty sad Greek tale/mythology if you think about it. Makes you wonder if Fathers outlived their son's during the age of those tales.

SG-1 fan? sweeT! Did you see the SG1 movie ? Its not bad.

Posted by Daedalus85
But in SG1 they can't even pronounce it correctly. They call it the Deadalus, even though they spell it Daedalus.

Daedalus is Day-Da-Luss

Deadalus is Dead-a-Luss

Grrr, bloody TV :/

Do what Reggie does and add another 30mb for £10? I have to say £15-17 for unlimited everything is pretty good.

Posted by leeboy13
will it really be worth it? my bills will be over £60 standard then tho eeeeeeeeeeeeeek!

Posted by tmagberry
Only you can decide. But if you asked any BB user, they would agree. I pay £10 unlimited on O2 but because my normal voice tariff allows me too. Otherwise it would be £15 but i would still pay that....

Posted by leeboy13
will see how 6meg does me for the first month (as i guess i'll be crap with it for a while) then upgrade

nice one tho buddy!
