Is anyone still rocking the Storm 2 [9520/9550]?! My girl actually bought one and I'm impressed with it and is actually really good!

At MWC2010 RIM featured bluetooth remote controlling an out of retail box Lego robot.

went from an iphone 3g to a bold 2 9700. loved the iphone but couldnt live with the poor battery life. really like the 9700 the browsers not a patch on the iphone but the battery lasts a good couple of days with decent usage something the iphone couldnt manage.
its a learning curve from the iphone but glad i made the jump

Posted by nicv27
Very nearly the same as me i went from a iphone 3g to a bold 9000 now using a bold 9700, but i am hopefully getting the new storm 2 soon as soon as o2 release it

As an alternative to the current RIM BB Browser;

Opera Mini 4, 5beta2/3
Bolt Browser which is ACID3 100/100% test successful.
(link provided courtesy of DennyCrane of HoFo)

I was able to download a 130MB+ music mix down a friend hosted online within the Bolt Browser without issue and into my MicroSD card. Yes playback was flawless as it was an MP3 file. The native blackberry browser didn't even attempt this knowing the file size. Yes I was able to leave my phone in standby during the download.

So I'm expecting this kind of functionality in the upcoming webkit based RIM BB Browser upgrade when available.

Which is the original font, used in Blackberry Storm 2?

Posted by Supa_Fly
couldn't tell ya. Do you have one? If so then switch your theme to the default and settings back to default.
Or do full backup, wipe, check the font, then restore all your apps and settings

Posted by mediar
No, I don't. So I'm asking if someone other knows, because I need it for my next project. And if it's something unusual ( Blackberry specific ), please send it tome via PM or post it here.

I have a problem with my BB, when i recieve emails, i reply to them however the reply is not going through.

When I check the email on my computer its as though I never opened it in the first place, I then look in the sent folder and shows no reply sent.

I use Hotmail for my emails.

Anyone know what the problem might be and how it can be solved?

When this occurs (with any non-sent emails after composing/reply/forwarding) in your Messages folder there should be the email (on the BB) with a Red- X on it! Open that email and scroll to the top ... you'll see an error message on the top banner of that specific email.

Most likely if you've been sending emails on the BB using your Hotmail account; I believe you NEED to use the PC to logon to your Hotmail/Live account once every 30/60/90days to KEEP your account authenticated with Microsoft. A stipulation to Microsofts' agreement with RIM. Sure you could use the BB Browser/Bolt/Opera Mini browser to logon to hotmail/live or their respective mobile sites using your account just to keep it authenticated. Then logout, and resend that email. If that doesn't work - after logon to Microsoft's site, resend your service books and then retry.

Let us know the error msg of that failed sent email.
Cheers.

Hi Prom,
It shows as sent on my BB, no red x's, so I presume everything is ok until I actually check my Hotmail accounts on a computer and notice that the email has not been opened or replied to.

I have seen the red x in the past where an email has not been sent and would simply resend these, and the email would go through.

Also I log into my Hotmail accounts at least once a day, so there should be no problem with Microsoft authenticating the accounts.

Tried sending service books, pulling the battery out etc, still the same problem...

Not sure what it is, as it was working perfectly fine, and all of a sudden its not.

Also emails that are coming through are coming through late, 10-20mins delayed.

Could this be a problem with Orange?

Can you clarify what you mean by 2-way sync? I'm thinking its there.

Posted by slattery69
my understanding is that once 2 way sync goes live if you delete it from your handset it should delete from the server mailbox. currently if you select delete from mailbox and hanset on the blackberyy it just deletes from the handset and moves the mail to all mail on the gmail server once live should delete and whats on the handset should be representative of whats in the mailbox online

Got myself a nice and shiny BB 9700, was wondering would the O2 BB bolt on cover me browsing the internet on my phone as well as push email?

yeah mate it covers all data coming in and out of the BB, including browser, emails and apps.

Sweet, it was just that read on o2 forums that some apps use the o2 apn not the BB one therefore racking up massive data bills.

I have never experienced that personally, Maud has been with O2 on BB tariff for 18 months with no problems.

Posted by jcwhite_uk
The problems with O2 charging for data on Blackberrys seems to be on the Simplicity tariffs. Just make sure you have nothing entered in the APN settings, that way you should be ok.

Sadly my 9700 lasted me less than two weeks. Nothing wrong with it except the lack of touchscreen and its plain Jane feature set.

I have since put it back into its original box over a month ago and went back to my favourite phone, the P1i.

nanu + jcwhite_uk cheers for the info, much appreciated.

Hi everyone,

got my Bold 9000 for sale here.

It is unlocked and I have checked it with a Vodafone and an O2 sim

Please can anyone update me about 'unlatching'

If I see it on, what happens? What should I do?

Any advice appreciated..!

I`m using a bold 9700 on o2 running softwear version 5.0.0.421 Is this the current version or am i lagging behind.
thanks

Posted by slattery69
might be the lastest o2 offical but there are plenty of newer versions out im on .593 which is the last leak i beleive that came out , have a look here http://forums.crackberry.com/f95/
called as betas but most are just leaks of offical software i think at least one european operator is using .593 as its offical software

just remember to read up on any issues and potential changes before you install, one thing you might have at the min but wont after is the top right button on early firmware put the phone into stand by it doesnt on the newer builds it does what it says in the manual just a mute button. standby is now part of the left top button and is a combo lock and stand by

nicv27 I'm on .586 and it is very stable imo, not had a chance to use .593 as .586 is solid for me no issues at all.

thanks... How easy is it to update the firmware.... i have done various n series in the past but never a Blackberry.

Posted by waibun_lee
It's pretty straight forward, nothing complicated at all.

http://crackberry.com/blackbe[....]de-new-rim-operating-system-os

That should help you loads, links to new OS are usually sticky'd (http://forums.crackberry.com/f146/)

Hope this helps you.

One thing I cannot STAND on the last three/four leaked firmware's is some idiot at rim thought a smart idea was to effectively disable the hardware device lock button = changing it to sleep while given the screen saver hardware button a useless function = nothing!

Who is the f**ktard at rim that came up with this making the device unsecure. ?!!! Sorry for rant and cussing but this really angered me. This one change is the most stupid decision engineers made of all - a security risk!

Is anyone in this thread a Mac OS X user using BB Desktop Manager?
If so has anyone been able to install downloaded firmware via Mac OS X & BBDesktop Manager directly without using a VM?

Thanks.

I need to know how to exchange firmware on the 9700.

waibun_lee would you know f a tutorial for Mac users?

Anyone else get to enjoy the BlackBerry 6 - the OS - preview presented today at WES2010?!

check out my thoughts on my blog if you will - yes I included the original and circulating video from RIM.
http://seriousmobile.wordpres[....]ackberry-6-preview-titillates/

Just look at the video and how each person moves in the following advertisement for BlackBerry 6 preview that RIM gave earlier today to the public at WES2010!
Wow … not only do they move to the beat, but the OS moves with it too … very synergistically. I actually had to watch it 3 times to catch all that was going on. Why again is RIM shares down?! I think too many analysts have not just been drinking the Apple Kool Aid juice but I'll bet their suck'n the spoon that Apple has been serving them with the iPhone. This ad preview of OS 6 is light-years ahead of Symbian 3, iPhone OS, and even Android … just looks as robust as what we know and love on ALL our solid performing BlackBerry's.

There seems to be a NEW gesture - something I've only seen independent developers on S60 and recently Android take advantage of … shake or vibration control using the device built-in motion sensor. Look at the video again at time frame: 1:09 - 1:11. how does that Kool Aid taste now, How Does it Taste!).

Boom Boom Pow! - Big Chun!

Within the next few weeks I'll try my hand at posting directly from the Mac ...
http://web.me.com/lucious/Serious_Mobile/Blog/Blog.html (i'm not even sure this is viewable but I hope so).

Those with 9520 are going to LOVE OS 6.

Hey from what I know unless your carrier pushes or RIM release an offical update you can't install any of the leaked or just released OS's from a mac via the .exe method, you can only update via DM or if you try and run it through parallel or VMware. Not too sure about the last option I'm afriad.

Found this after searching around but it seems you need a dmg file?

http://blackberryrocks.com/20[....]op-manager-mac-files-included/

EDIT

Some users on crackberry are saying if you back-up your current OS it'll create a folder with COD files etc. If you can download and extract the .exe OS and find those COD files and replace the ones in the backup folder and restore it should do it? I'm not too sure about this though.

I have installed the latest 8900 OS on my PC and zipped up all the files from the OS here:

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=PW4PWXQY

And you have to scan through comments here to get the gist of what needs to be done.

http://forums.crackberry.com/[....]-mac-hybrid-os-install-312837/

and for a tutorial (although it's not exactly detailed)

http://www.whatsgoodblog.com/[....]-with-desktop-manager-for-mac/

Hope this helps you out

Welcome to Build Quality, proper firmware support, and a proper PIM smartphone that truely works on have its name (Phone). You'll love the BlackBerry more and more when you realize that even with the Blurr, MediaScape, or other wireless sync add-on's for linux like platforms but ONLY RIM has proper APIs that work.

waibun_lee, awesome FIND!! Where have YOU BEEN!?!!

@Reg,
No you want the 9100, SureType rocks! Not that T9 junk.
I'm really debating getting the 9100 just for old-times sake.
Honestly I'm seriously loving my Bold 9700 - though not a fan of how screwed up providers' service books ads spam my BB or how shoddy he "Enhanced Gmail Plugin" works.

Cheers all and don't be strangers keep this thread alive or add us all on BBM>

That's what I'm saying ... "where HAVE you BEEN?!" as in you kicked off with an incredible post!! Nice going, looking forward to further posts. Right now I'm still VERY green in the Mac OS world so I'm crawling and learning every week.
I still do windows but only as employment incoming.

now I'm HOPING someone can get RIM's latest SDK for OS 5 to work on Eclipse 3.5 for Mac OS X natively.

Well Tomorrow is the big iPhone announcement by Apple's WWDC - which runs a full week long.
Personally I doubt I'll be swayed by the iPhone - I'm aware others will just cause of what it'll do.

Specific interest to me is how the show off usefulness of Video chat - will it conform to industry standards for corporate video chat infrastructure? New deals with MS with Office Communicator 2009 R2 or other services/products? MobileMe account changes and service rates! This affects me as a Mac user - new convert (slow progression) since I have 2 Mac's at home now. Mac Mini updates.

Personally I'm seriously looking forward to the BlackBerry 9800 Slider announcement. This device is going to rock the socks off the competition - even the iPhone in the hardware spec (save for video camera; RIM just isn't down with higher video recording just yet). Infrastructure for consumers and education (iTunes U; for Colleges/University/High-School/Middle School) is just light years beyond the competition. This is Mac's space.

But the quality I enjoy of my 9700 will be hard to top, and with the 9800 Bold slider coming soon with BlackBerry 6 ... "I can't wait" like Sleepy Brown said.
