Hi!
Piccie for Nanu!
My main issue now is making the memory card accept Japanese MP3's with Japanese titles. As soon as I transfer some to the memory card or the phones memory, errors are reported and the card or phone memory needs a reformat. So annoying.
getting there!
Excuse the dust !! Will remove the screen protector when my Martin Fields arrives !
and one more screen shot showing an email attachment Word document !

Heres more details on Blackberry application Suite for Windows Mobile:
http://www.berryreview.com/20[....]ckberry-os-for-windows-mobile/
Its software that is going to be released by RIM that is basically a virtual BB.

Hi!
Interesting !
# You can install most BB apps, though some may not support VGA resolutions (should be fine on HTC Kaiser, as it is QVGA)
# Currently not all WM devices are supported, only HTC Kaiser, HTC Raphael and HTC Niki. Xperia X1 support is coming down the pipe.

Here are my phones and accessories,
HTC Touch HD, BlackBerry Bold, Kenwood KH-C311 and a very nice lanyard
I think if I could choose my specifications for my phone I would choose the Touch HD for screen and ease of use with my finger ! Have the BlackBerry OS for ease of email, and then the iPhones language input so I can have English, Japanese and Chinese that are so easy to input and switch !
The sound through the Kenwood KH-C311 is excellent ! Received these today from Japan !!

Morning guys and experts,
Have my Orange BB Bold (yeah!) but don't see any BB maps pr any indication that it has GPS. Upgraded to V4.6.214 but nothing found. Sure looking through Crackberry etc, someone said Orange disabled this (wonderful people) but there was a way round it.
Anyone please? Think it was Nanu who posted this somewhere.
Thanks guys
Doug

There was no maps on my 8310! Either! Orange seem to disable it in there service books! Sorry.

@Burgaz,
sorry, don't know of any free ones ! Would like some for my Bold too!
@dougproctor,
I am sure you are searching CrackBerry and other sites but I found this at CrackBerry and thought I would post the link.
gps
A member called Branta posted this
Get your GPS location
1. In the device options, click Advanced Options.
2. Click GPS.
3. Press the Menu key.
4. Click Refresh GPS.
The longitude and latitude coordinates for your current location appear.
(In UK you should get something in the range 51N-54N 001E-004W depending where you are)
If this works the GPS receiver is enabled and can see enough satellites. If Orange has simply blocked data service to provide maps you should be able to work around this with third party apps like Google. Take a look at the GPS message board here on CB for more advice.

There are other posts about service books further down in the thread that seem to indicate success.
Sorry, if this is not helpful!

Thank you. Did that and got 5 satellites indoors. That must be why when I downloaded Google Mobile, my location was to within 5 metres! On my 8320, it put me in the sea just off the Isle of Wight!! Bit scary!
Thank you again, love this Bold!
Regards
Doug

Hi!
you are welcome!
I have just been for a drive as a passenger and could try, Vodafone Sat Nav, Maps and Google Maps.
Vodafone's GPS refreshed the maps nicely and gave good instructions for my journey.
Google Maps updated very slowly and I could not see where I was in reality. We were only driving at 30 mph ! Google Maps has placed me in the River Humber in the past!
I could not use Maps very well at all and could not find the settings to refresh the map as we were driving. Must be there somewhere in the menu's but I could not find it.
@dougproctor Could you sort out the lack of maps on your Orange Bold? I guess Orange just want you to pay for their offering.

I managed to work around Orange blocking maps, but this work around is no longer necessary as Orange no longer block maps or WLM, Doug you will simply need to download the BlackBerry® maps app to the Bold!

Hi mates. Have Google Mobile maps as heard that BB maps not so good and yes, GPS is there. I was expecting it to be under Manage Connections or something, rather than Options, Advanced Options.
Really love this phone though.

BB Maps is quite good - for the average user, usually picking the quickest route to your destination. Good thing is its integrated into platform (J2ME, CLDC based OS is a platform). Meaning you save your trip, email it, send it over MMS to another BB user and it'll auto open in their BBMaps should they have it installed. Even sending over BBMessenger is great for those from say overseas or another country (USA > UK) whom have never visited your native land before for a meeting or a latté. Don't knock something until A) you try it, and B) you understand more than its face value features. You wouldn't judge a potential bonafide just on face value features would you?
Personally though I prefer my S60 devices - and yes I know all about BB's and the OS along with corporately supporting them on both Exchange & Domino servers now.
btw, nice photo of the Storm & Bold. Now you need the landscape deskstand for the Storm!

I doubt the HTC Touch HD would fit in the Storm's desk top stand!

Oh no, my Pearl is long sold. Late October last year (2007). Since then I've upgraded to the K790a then in March 08 to the K850i which I REALLY gave it a chance. In August I upgraded to the Nokia E71-2 (NAM - North American Mobile for 3.5G). Love that phone; but alas holidays drained me dry so I had to downgrade to nothing. No phone just a SIM
But in time I may get the E71 again, or the N85 then summer the N97.

Changing the bezel is really easy.
Changed my bold to all black in about 10 minutes, it was the simplest housing change i have ever done.

If you use a Windows PC, there is software you can install and use to unlock the handset yourself. (The name escapes me at the moment though!)

yay! got my 8900 today
will set it up tonight..... anyone know how to set up microsoft exchange email accounts?
Posted by jcwhite_uk
Have you got a BIS or a BES account. Exchange accounts can only be set up on BES accounts.
Posted by leeboy13
is that a business account? if it is, i dont have one
Posted by jcwhite_uk
Apparently it is possible using OWA (Outlook Web Access) Not sure how you set it up though.
Posted by jcwhite_uk
Try this:
Log into that or create a new account if you haven't already.
Under Email Accounts, click Set Up Account.
Put in any email and any password (make them the same though). Basically, we want it to fail. And click Next. It will do it's "processing" for a minute and then ask for Additional Information.
Select "I will provide the settings to add this email account." and click Next.
Select "This is my work email account." and click Next.
Select "I can access my email account using a Web browser (Outlook® Web Access)" and click Next.
As for the settings, that's up to you. Now I will note that it took me some tinkering to get mine to successfully log in. Here's why. I have my own domain controller/exchange server at home. My log in name is "Firstname Lastname" with the space in there. I ended up having to use "Firstname " for the username.
But once you get the right settings, you should be good to go.
Thanks to BlackberryForums.com for this.

I'm seriously considering buying a new battery cover for my 8900 from cnn.cn as the original one is stupidly loose.
Anyone else got a loose battery cover?
Also has anyone got a charging dock for theirs yet? If so where'd ya get it and how much did you pay?

Burgaz,
got my Bold Pod from a company on eBay, London based, paid £15.
they're called italkonlineuk on ebay and they have a website too...highly recommended, not sure if they have the Curve ones in yet but you can check with them.
Leeboy,
assuming it's a typo and your with t-mobile, the login to setup your email accounts is: http://instantemail.t-mobile.co.uk/
when you call t-mobile over the phone they do this for you but you can login yourself and check all mail accounts you have setup and add to them etc.

The BB PAYG Service will launch on Orange UK (Jan 29th)
* BIS Bundle will cost £5 per month
* It will include a fair use limit of 50mb
* You will also be able to use unlocked blackberry phones with the plan
* £5 charge automatically renews every month from whence activated, user will be informed via txt msg 3 days before the due date warning the the charge for BIS will be deducted
* If there is insufficient credit an sms would be sent to customer advising of this, also when customer next tops up £5 will be deducted automatically
* If the user fails to top up the required amount, after 28 days they would need to ring 450 to enable the service once again
* Customers can unsubscribe to the service by texting STOPBB to 247
* The fair use policy isn't a hard cap, so it won't eat into your credit if you go over the 50mb
* Any customer will be eligible for it providing they have a Blackberry handset (though it will not be advertised as such)
* The service will initially be launching on 8120, however as stated the service will also support other blackberrys.
Its also possible the Service will be able to paid as a yearly one off for £60
