Unlatching a BB device? If I go to the Orange Internet Service website and log in, I get the option of changing my device by putting in my new IMEI number.
Is this all I need to do to unlatch the pin on my old Curve or do I have to still ring Orange?
(Tried all day on 156 and just got stacked in the queue!).
Thanks
Doug

@ Jc... I'm confused, where is that? looks like Swanage, but I don't recall Swanage having a pier?

@ Doug, you sadly need to call Orange I think.......

I don't think you do have to ring them Doug. When you register a new PIN and IMEI to your account i'm pretty sure it frees up the old one!

Almost positive in fact! Tmag can probably confirm this.

If you arent replacing the BB with another then you will need to call Orange and get them to close the BIS account.

Otherwise the BB is redundant.

So

1) If you going onto another BB. Then dont ring Orange.
2) If you not using another BB and need to pass this on to another user, then call Orange and get them to close BIS Account

Hi Tom. I am getting a 8320 tomorrow from Orange and passing on the Curve to Yasman, that's why I want to free the pin. So if I register the new one, it frees up the old one?

@nicv27

Multimedia is excellent on the Bold and has replaced my iPod for Music which is something the E90 or E71 couldn't do and is even better than my N95, N95 8GB where. That's with my Music encoded @256kbps AAC and using my Shure EC2g ear phones.

For watching Video the Bold screen is beautifully clear and bright and possibly one of the best looking screens i have used bar none. It also handles a wide range of formats and once your material is converted to he correct size it looks fantastic. Even listening to the sound over the stereo speakers is both good and loud enough with no disatortion. As you may be able to tell i am seriously impressed with the Bold and that's not easy for any device to do with me.

@jcwhite

I have been running Beta firmwares since my original .92 on Orange and currently am on .162 and each one has improved the performance of the Bold. The other thing is if you don't like a firmware it's just so easy to erase it all and re load what ever one you want.

If i stuck to official releases I'm really not sure I'd be so happy with the Bold as i am.

Marc

the speakers on the bold are just awesome!

Marc what program do you use to convert videos to play on the bold?

i used handbrake but once converted,the video wouldnt play

Posted by Dogmann
Hi Dicky Snapples

I am using Movavi Video Converter 6 which which allows me to set up custom settings for one click conversions and also convert to many different formats and screen resolutions. It wasn't free but was worth every penny as it has allowed me to convert my material to so many different devices now.

Instead of waiting for Orange to do your upgrade cant you do it through Carphone Warehouse. they have Bolds in stock and they are unbranded and unlocked. They say they can do upgrades on Orange.

Hello BB experts. Have got my 8320 and registered the sim with Orange although have to wait another hour before I flash up my phone with the new sim in.
I thought I would try to register my new device on the Orange BIS (Pin & IMEI) but it tells me this unit is not registered with this service provider. Is this because I have to wait until I get the two text messages from Orange to complete the registration process?
It has V4.2 software so presently downloading V4.5, then install and then transfer my stuff using DEsktop Manager. Is this the right way? Cannot get through to Orange CS to ask - always stacked in the queue.
Thanks
Doug

1) Correct Doug... sadly!

2 indeed it is, did you make a backup of your Curve before selling it? if so you can just restore that to the 8320 when you've got 4.5 on it...

Has anyone got one of the newest BB's ?

If so, would you let me send you an email in Japanese to see if it displays?

Maybe, input is also easy to do...

I am searching for answers on this but to send an email to someone is the quickest way !

I'm afraid it didn't work old chap!

well, it didn't until I took a few minutes to install the Japanese language support!

and all is fine!

So go out tomorrow and get yourself a Bold and I can assure you you'll have no regrets!

Well apart from the TomTom not working on BB's but there are other equally as good apps for sale!

Posted by fatreg
YEEEEHAAAAA!

We is getting there with BB users on an SE site!

Col,
Upped to V4.5, transferred all my data, setup wifi and all singing dancing!! Registered the new phone with BIS and boxed up the old Curve. Got offered a link to Vlingo Beta for UK as took part in a trial for the company. Looks good......
And stop talking about the flamin' Bold and Storm please! Jealous or what?

@Ofiaich,

Well only you can decide that! but if you want a Touchscreen it's got to be the Storm but the Bold is better IMHO as it has WiFi the thing missing from the Storm.

Hi !

@fatreg! Yes, maybe very soon !

Yes, it's up to me ! Like touch screens... and tend to only use WiFi sitting at home with my TyTnII because my home town has very few WiFi places because of the monopoly of Kingston Communications.

Uni has WiFi, of course, but then a few feet away from hotspots are many pc's

I got quite a few questions in my mind, and will post them later..!

Best places to buy a BB Bold or Storm ?

Ofiaich

Posted by Burgaz
I'm a lil gutted that there's no Wi-Fi on the storm... I was looking forward to it!

Oh well i suppose they have to keep some differences between the Storm and Bold...

I still think i'm gonna get a Storm over a Bold tho. Hopefully within the next month! Now orange have sorted my billing out

Posted by MWEB
What does the Storm have over a Bold, to offset the lack of wifi?.

Posted by Burgaz
An AF 3mp camera?

Ummm... and according to the stats on the official voda site WMV play back

It seems to have a very slight Multimedia Edge!

Official Spec states WMV as a supported video playback format

Seems to be the way of all manufacturers these days, they leave one bit of spec out to differentiate between models, think i'll have to wait for a BB with an AF cam AND WiFi before i can join the club

Posted by Burgaz
I was planning on doing exactly the same... But the Storm looks sooo nice!

I'll be keeping my N78 but it may take a back seat for a little while when my storm arrives!

BB are essentially useless.

To use exchange you need a BES server and BES account.

Posted by ofiaich
@Dicky Snapples!

thanks for that!

Having a good read ! Wish they would list languages ! Can't find that at the moment !

Back to my search

@jcwhite_uk

thanks ! Now I need to search about BES server and BES account.

BES server you normally get from your service provider if you sign upto several BES accounts. BES accounts are approx £30 a month on top of your phone tariff

Posted by Dicky Snapples
Plus the initial cost of the BES.

Posted by ofiaich

thanks for that information, jcwhite_uk and Dicky Snapples !

My September bill was only £35-92 so I have better think about that !

I can always setup a rule and send my Exchange email on to my GMail account.

Whats the added advantage and functionality of that then?, sounds a bit steep for a tight fisted northener IMO
