Who here works for a corporation & has their BB administerd to them??!

hehe. I like that quote ... "source: you needn't know".

I got to fiddle with the Bold today ... and the screen is incredible! really something you'll appreciate. Keys feel VERY similar to the 8800/8820/8830 World Edition models. The frets really help. I think the LCD is glued to the screen and does look like it'll scratch VERY easily. Its a good size but not too large like the pictures suggest. Strange though the the firmware - branded - I was peeking at it, and it looks like you cannot use WiFi (like the 8120) without a SIM Card present for browsing - yes I changed the default Browser Configurations to the "Hotspot Browser".

So we'll see for ourselves what its like.

At this rate the Bold should just have a change of name The Old, I am getting tired of waiting on this device.

Posted by Prom1
Some news ....

S/MIME support for Email & PIN messaging will be done locally on the device without need for Administration or BES support. it'll be password encrypted and no longer need certificates.

Most ppl won't know or care, but for encrypted email/pin for VERY sensitive data matters to some ppl I guess.

Training materials are already at providers so its not going to be long now. Final firmware builds have just been released to carriers for final testing. We'll see.

Anyone know where to get a decent all-black housing for the Curve?

I've found the front and the keys on cnn.cn, and I can get a titanium coloured backplate from ebay, but they're £6 for just a backplate :/

Might just fork out for both and have a cool two tone black/dark greg one

I'll be looking for a ALL -BLACK housing as well. My entire training team except 3 others & myself got them. I got the SHITTY one that is a refurbished unit while everyone else got theirs brand new. Something I'm miffed about but oh well it was free.

PIN later - not sure I'm allowed to give it out as this is a demo account for data only.

Ok got my new blackberry pearl on contract this afternoon now i've found some good bb sites to download some themes i like but how easy is it to install them as they download in zip file.....please note: i've only a limited amount of brain cells so nothing too complicated please

Posted by fatreg
dead dead dead easy Shelley...

if they have alx files, when you connect youtr BB to your PC, in desktop manager there's a button that says application loader, click that, find the alx files for the themes and the rest is even easier than that.....

Posted by Prom1
So Orange & Vodafone have the bold, how come you guys haven't posted a review yet?!

Posted by Daedalus85
O2 are getting the 8220 Kickstart within the next few weeks hopefully. No release date/week but we've got it on our handset price list as free on £30/month and above, I think. Maybe £25/month. Need to check.

But either way, we're getting it

I just hope we DO get the Bold :/

Firmware branding can be fixed, but the physical if very Boldly done - pun intended - will be a pain in the arse.

Oh, ain't going to Bournemouth! my old shop...

How do you remove all SW branding Prom? like when you open browser, mine currently says Blackberry but when I had an Orange BB is said Orange......

The software is all the same regardless of provider, it's only the themes that are different, unless they have locked out certain apps, like Orange branded BB's don't come with BB map's. If you delete the Vendor.xml file located in RIM's program files and delete all vendor tags in BB.alx of the software on your PC it will open all vendor themes on the bb so you can have O2's if you desire or China mobile etc, the only branding that remains on a BB, is the start up/shut down and as Reg mentioned the startup up screen of the browser on occasion!

In short there isn't any arduous or costly time consuming process to go through, just Options>Theme and change too BB Dimension Zen (presuming it is preloaded) and hey presto bye bye Voda!

Maybe not!! If you can trust cnn.cn you can buy an unbranded bottom cover for just $4.99+p&p here

which is far easier than trying to get one for a Curve!!

That is the homepage you're refering too. Once you goto the BlackBerry mobile site and bookmark it in there you get the option to set to Homepage.

NOT true, not entirely. Every vendor has their BIS setup to auto send provisioning browser links (ie AT&T has XM Radio, AT&T Mall, etc. While Rogers has Do More). Furthermore, they're specific firmwares also have preset applications for install (same as above, browser links: ie Rogers has Yahoo IM due to their @Home highspeed email partnership, this ties into that; while MSN is available its not sent to their users by default. Also not if you're on a BES plan this may also be pushed to your device - depending on BES restrictions). These ALL can be easily deleted in Options> Advanced Options> Applications. However there is ANOTHER file - not vendor.xml (device.xml??) where you can set the specific vendor (AT&T, O2, Rogers, Orange, etc as the default skin, etc to load). The BB.alx I'm not sure of. But you're right that the underlying code is the same. I'm not sure exactly how, but the startup & shutdown screens can also be changed.

Hi all,

I already posted in the Bold thread a link to a Video of the Orange Bold and the fact it appears to be just a small Orange Logo at the bottom of the front of the Bold. I also spoke to VodaFone toady and they have it scheduled for release 3rd September. I don't know why but i keep wanting to call it the BB Star Trek as it will Boldly go where no BB has gone before.

Hello,

Ok got my 8310 today and i want to transfer things from my mac and pocketmac never fully sync just stops halfway through,

and i can't seem to copy themes from my mac???

Posted by fatreg
The latest driver update from BB should sort out the syncing issue, I gave up with themes on my manc and just resorted to OTA downloads....

Posted by Superluminova
cool, downloaded the latest pocketmac software and its still stalls at about 50%

Posted by fatreg
the latest pocketmac sw won't make ant difference, you need the drivers from blackberry.com...

I'll see if i can find a link!

hmmm there's been a new pocketmac... 4.1 does that not work? hmmmm...

Hi all,

OK need a little advice please as i am getting very close to buying a Bold from Orange.

Orange remove BB maps from their Bold's can i install another firmware and get them back?

If i get the Bold and don't like it i will keep the Orange plan and use BB connect on my E90 as it's only £2.50pm. So how easy is it to get the Bold both unlocked and unlatched so i can sell it?

Lastly is 250mb per month on BB talk from Orange really enough for E-Mail and Web browsing or would i need to keep Web browsing mainly to just WiFi?

Marc

Put it this way, 200MB is what O2 give you and very, very few people go over that. That includes people on here (apart from maybe 2 or 3)

Posted by jcwhite_uk
AFAIK blackberry have not released a downloadable version of bb maps for 4.6 yet.

Posted by Dogmann
Hi all,

OK not to worried about the maps anymore and Orange will unlock and unlatch the Bold after 3 months for me. As i intend to give the Bold a proper try before deciding if it's for me or not that really isn't a problem just want it delivered now.

you did it online? rubbish! I'll be getting mine from a shop!

Posted by Dogmann
@Fatreg

£5 a month online discount and not having to go to an Orange shop and worry about parking etc etc all make it better for my needs. Not sure but are the shop's also doing BB talk discounted to £2.50pm? which i believe ends 31st August.

If you work nearby an Orange store, ask the person doing the connection about the 'trade secrets' discount for local businesses/employees. Basically you can get (I think 10%) discount on your monthly line rental and (again, I think it was) 15% off of your upgrades.

I was discussing a new connection on Saturday whilst in the office and the guy said he would sort me out with it as I worked nearby. All I had to do was bring a payslip in when I was doing the connection.

Posted by fatreg
ah yeah! I need to ask about this... I didn't know it could be added at point of upgrade! I'll ask at the weekend!

Ta for the heads up!

Where's the cheapest place to get a Sim Free Bold then? I've been looking around and can't find them for less than £400-£500... Was hoping to find on for £300 or so...

Posted by fatreg
I believe Mphone was the cheapest place?

Posted by Dogmann
Hi all,

Well I've now joined the BB club as my Bold arrived today so far I've found it very easy to set up. My one and only compliant so far is synching is really taking far to long and it looks like i need a newer firmware as it isn't holding onto a 3G signal very well. Anyone wishing to add me onto BB messenger my Pin is now in my signature.
