BBMaps, or Google? Either way try to download for BBDM installation, not OTA if thats what you've been trying.

Nothing yet pal, I find out if I get the job or not next week Friday, 2nd week of June. I'm currently torn between the Nokia E71 and the Bold as both now are pretty on par; from Video posts that I've seen. Oh yeah DIVX is now supported for video playback (surely some resolutions are not of course) on the Bold - which I'm really happy about.
Retail markets should have them around August-September; just my guess from pass top tier BB releases. I'm expecting AT&T in the US to get theirs in July sometime (week of the 17th).

I've tried downloading BBmaps to my pc but again it tells me my system configuration is incorrect....? Google maps works fine... Guess i'll stick with that for now. Does google maps use GPS? It just seems a bit off when i choose my current position?

Google Maps is not recognising that your phone has GPS
http://google.com/gmm/apps/v2[....]BlackBerry&model=42&ver=v2.0.3
or
Tiny Url
http://tinyurl.com/4zwtr2
Type that into BB Browser and remove the current gmaps before you download.

Just seen the pics of the thunder. Funny, Se got rid of the play/pause key and bb added it in the thunder. Good to see Bb moving in the right direction unlike Se.

yay i have now joined the club with an 8310 on t-mobile
PIN is 254767C9
only problem is took the contract out in store 3 hours ago and still got a message on screen saying sim card rejected
Posted by haynesycop
Did they ring it through while you where there? When i got mine in the shop it was all done and worked pretty much straight away.
Posted by mutleyboy
yeah they had to phone up as system was showing the tariff i wanted was not available even though it is in their brochure and on their website, took about an hour on phone in store to get them to agree tariff was available and put it through
just on hold on the phone now trying to speak to cs about it
BTW the tariff was flext25 + WnW + instant email, 18 months, £30/month

I got mine awhile back and have since got rid, but it was a 12 month tariff, they put the sim in rang it through and it worked pretty much straight away, it's possibly just a lag or something but either way t-mob customer service is spot on.

All contracts take up to 24 hours but it depends on how busy the network is really.
Some, or most really, are done within the first 3 hours, but some, especially if on a Sunday or Monday can take up to 24 hours to start working, due to the backlog from the weekend, as thats when most contracts are sold.
Posted by mutleyboy
i did know that but my patience is awful lol just want to be playing with it.
Have already updated it to latest 4.5 os. Now i have sim not provisioned:2 message
Hurry up and work;-)

Power down. Remove your SIM, back in Power On - though you've probably already done that. Remove the SIM. Call in get Tech support Tier 2. NO WAY should it take 24hrs! Busy or NOT its too long and obsurd. You should demand from customer service pro-rating charge of LESS 1 day if that happens. Regardless of their policy you're paying for no service on that 24hr period. However, Tier 2 should be able to solve it with a quick review of your billing setup then check the switch accordingly.
Then SIM in, power on, auto register with network (or HRT) and you should be sorted in the good.

Allow me step in, again.
I just stated, it can take up to 24 hours, this is the UK and you're in Canada. Different networks, different rules and regulations etc.
It's 24 hours, like it or lump it
Posted by mutleyboy
cheers guys
phoned tech support this morning, asked me to do all the stuff i had already tried like powering down, sending register message through HRT etc
then came back and said they cant find my sim profile on their systems or something like that, been escalated and could take upto 72 hours to hear back, not happy with t-mob, wish i had gone with o2 now but chose t-mob due to 1GB wnw allowance rather than o2's 200MB limit, as i know i use around 500MB or more usually with downloading podcasts etc
Posted by Daedalus85
Put it this way, with BlackBerry you don't really use up a standard amount of data like you would on a regular handset, as it's all compressed, much like Vodafone did/does with their mobile Internet.
Having said that, this is what I heard from a BlackBerry expert who works in the business, so it's not my words, but most people have a tough time going over their O2 data limit with BlackBerry.
As for T-Mobile not activating it, I would say "pff, bloody idiots, god their so slow", but I know that all mobile networks can, and have, been like this for many years.
Think of the sheer number of new contracts they do every day, theres bound to be a couple that slip through the net. It happens, but they always rectify it.
Posted by themarques
In 19 days I clocked up 483.86Mb, give or take a few more hundred before the end of the month, il say 650Mb a month (thats just me
I guess Blackberry doesn't compress as well as we thought.

Differing rules & regulations of a provider does NOT affect the Blackberry/RIM rules and setup, along with CORE GSM setup. If it takes 24hrs its ridiculous; Not your fault and I understand more users are on at least 1 of the UK providers than say ALL for providers here in Canada for ALL phones hehe. But at least we offered help on both sides of the same coin. Cheers.

I figured as much with something with your IMSI on the switch = your profile. Since you couldn't make calls in/out because of the SIM error you're getting I suggested contacting Tier 2 support; customer service is just a different lower level - nothing against them.

all working now, so watch out people pin's will be added shortly

can i just say that o2 do not have a 200mb allowance. it is unlimited the allowance they have. but o well, good luck with t mobile

Hi all,
It appears VodaFone will be releasing the Bold in August i wonder how much longer until the Thunder?

Can some one out there please explain how to get BBmaps back on my 8310. It was originally a Voda handset but has been unlocked. BBmaps worked fine on 4.2 but does not appear on 4.5(even tho it is installed?) If i try and install the latest version OTA or anyother way it tells me that i have the wrong OS?
I've read that i can install an older version but can't find a link to it anywhere?

I may be seeing it wrong but that screenshot that you posted on shows you used about 58MB not 483.86mb.
I got me a used 8800 yesterday. Cant use it properly at the moment as its pin is still registered with the previous owner so am getting his emails. Waiting for seller to get back to me now.
Posted by Daedalus85
He's right actually, that is around 58 or 59MB, so nowhere near 458MB lol, so yes, it DOES compress as well as we thought.
Posted by Burgaz
i thought that but was too tired to say anything at the time...

Note the volume tab says KB (Kilobytes) not Kb (kilobits) and I said Mb not MB.

Ok. Didnt read that. Just presumed that you would be using Mega Bytes as you used KiloBytes as that is the standard that most people understand (I do understand kilobits)
Posted by themarques
Not sure what you confused about, its quite simple.
B
KB
MB
GB
TB
These are all Storage (2^x )
b
Kb
Mb
Gb
Tb
Data Communications ( 10^x )
in data communication 1 kilobit = 1000 bits
in data storage 1 Kilobyte = 1024 Bytes
Posted by jcwhite_uk
Not confused about that, its the mixing of units and most peoples presumption of one unit. Why use bits when the standard measure for this that most people use is bytes?
Posted by themarques
@JC You misunderstood, the question was not directed at you, more so to the post above you.
Posted by fatreg
confused as in whatever way you look at it it's way under 350MB.........

Just a quickie before I forget...
Not long after I got my 8310, I set it to keep messages 'forever'.
However, recently I was scrolling back through one of the e-mail accounts on it (I've got 5 on there) and it only went back as far as when the first messages came through at the start of June, and I've had plenty well before then. Also, some of the messages in the first week or two of June seem to be missing (used to get like 20 a day, but one 1 or 2 are there).
Any ideas? From a company perspective it really pee's me off when I'm trying to look up some information a client sent me, only to discover the damm thing has deleted it a while ago :/
Posted by fatreg
because it can't keep them forever!
only way to do it is to highlight messages and save them... (it's what I di with SMS every day!)

Awww, that sucks, how come it won't keep them 'forever' then, even though I've told it to? I mean whats it's definition of 'forever'? :/

Officially:

"As of June 17th, 4.5.0.44 release 62 now available for: 8100, 8310, 8800 and 8110 "

Got my 8800 working now, thanks to the persistance of Lost Prophet with T-Mobile.
My new PIN is 25121784 if you want to add me to messenger.
Silly question time: On my 8700g the messenger app added contacts by PIN. On my 8800 it only takes email address. Have they changed it or am I missing something?
