If you visit the link in my last post, it actually gives you the individual applications for ICQ, Yahoo, Google, AOL and MSN messengers-not the web applications-only one's that actually download are Google and Yahoo, but all the others error!

Hi all,
Just read some where else in the spec's for the Bold it includes Doc's To Go which if true is one less piece of Software needed then.

BB Bold (9000) Precision & Precision L themes FOUND:
* BB Pearl 8120 & Curve 8320 users note:
- set your default browser to be the Blackberry Browser (or just Browser), as for some reason (at least on my desktop sim) the WiFi browser doesn't work with the following link for OTA.
* Specific models (Pearl, Curve, 8800 series) support in the link.
* finally also set your BB Browser Configuration browser emulation to "internet explorer" - the creator of the link hasn't set his/her/their site to properly recognize the Blackberry emulation settings in your browser.
http://elecite.eveek.com/wap
Enjoy & yes their FREE! Above link should take you directly to the OTA page; if it doesn't then you're either using the WiFi Browser or your Browser emulation is set to Blackberry and their site doesn't properly recognize this.
Cheers!

At what resolution do you think the Bold captures video at? It should be something like QVGA or CIF at a minimum right?
Also previous models allowed for playback of 3gp/mp4 encoded H263 video. Do you think the Bold will go one step up and allow H264?

@ Prom1...
That link worked on my 8120 using the wifi browser!?

Hi Bav,
From what i think i have read as heavy meds mean i may be wrong it is VGA @30fps and it has support for H.264 as well as various Divix codecs. To me at least it looks like the Bold is good for both Business and Multimedia, as i said for me at least it ticks all the things i want in a device with the Camera being the least important for me.

Documents To Go will be part of BOTH BB-Firmware OS 4.5 & 4.6; however only Reading & Editing Word, PowerPoint(not too sure edit tho) will be out of the "box". Editing Excel will come shortly after, at least on the 8320/8120/8820 type series models when available - IF I'M NOT mistaken. Also btw, Recording is at Half VGA or HVGA @ 30fps along with playback

It worked? Glad to hear it
Anyone interested in the Kickstart at all? Wonder if the outter display will allow some apps to display some information (Calendar Ajenda view, SMS/MMS/Email Headers & time at a glance, etc), along with some applications to cycle through by the user via touch-capacitance keys (like the RAZR2 or K850i)??
@ fatreg, have you found that keypad in pink/fuscia that you were looking for? (pink/grey I think like the Telus Mobility 8130, as apposed to white based with pink?)
Posted by Dogmann
Hi Prom1,
Thanks for that not to bothered about recording more interested in how playback is. Although i don't intend selling my E90 straight away but you can expect a full review as i push the Bold and learn the secrets of it's OS and as always i will report it as i find it no holes barred.

@bavlondon2,
H.264 support has been there since the BB Pearl 8100 last February

Memory leaks are the thorn in the BB's side; Java's achilles heel. However, there IS a known problem of going into "Switch Application" 25 times will cause the memory leak - or so I've read on BBForums; and I've experience this pretty close to that frequency on my Ol' 8100.
Curious do you leave apps running when you no longer use them? Or what is your memory setitngs for Media set to?? I only ask because you're 8120 should be more stable to this. Any large attachments that were viewed after downloading them?
Hoping others can narrow the issue down & assist in squashing it. I got a LOT of reading to do between now & Friday to refresh my skills on BB - its been SOOO long (4mths).

Hey guys,
I just got my BB 8310 and I'm on the lookout for some navigation software, which stores the maps locally (i.e on the sd card) so that I don't have to load them everytime via GPRS .. has anyone any good links to manufacters?
thx
Posted by Burgaz
I'll be looking for some software like that shortly too!
Also whats the highest capacity card an 8310 will take? Will it take a MicroSD HC 4GB card? or is 2GB the limit?

Try Nav4All.
@ Burgaz - OS 4.5.0.18 will go to 16gb supposedly.
But i know 6gb will work. good to have you back on a BB. Now we can abuse you everyday....
Posted by Burgaz
Great I'll look forward to it... You got a link for that nav4all? And how much is it?

It would nice if something like sling could be compatible with the Bold.

Sling player is available for all Blackberry's with wifi, so shouldn't are why it wouldn't work with the Bold-pending few mods of course!

US Consumer Phone Sales Decline 22 Percent In Q1; BlackBerry Enters The Top Five: Report
http://www.moconews.net/entry[....]-in-q1-blackberry-enters-the-/
On Mon 2008-05-19 09:01 AM PST NDP Group wrote:
The shaky economy is starting to show up in U.S. phone sales. In the first quarter, consumer phone sales reached 31 million handsets, falling 22 percent compared to the year-ago period. For the first time, the NPD Group said sales fell between the busy holiday quarter and the first quarter. Despite this, the phones being sold today are higher-end compared to the year ago period, with smartphones comprising 17 percent of all phone sales, a 10 percent increase. Two of the big features being sold are Bluetooth at 79 percent of all phones and music-playing capabilities at 60 percent. The struggling Motorola (NYSE: MOT) maintained its No. 1 position, however, its share fell to 27 percent in the period from 35 percent a year ago. Likely to Apple’s (NSDQ: AAPL) chagrin, for the first time RIM (NSDQ: RIMM) BlackBerry improved its ranking, edging out Sanyo as the fifth-largest manufacturer. Apple didn’t make the list.
Here’s the breakdown:
-- Motorola 27 percent
-- Samsung 18 percent
-- LG (SEO: 066570) 17 percent
-- Nokia (NYSE: NOK) 8 percent
-- RIM BlackBerry 5 percent
Silly Nokia, after making waves of headlines a few months back that they'll considerable offer more phones targeted at the US market, then going back on that statement stating only 1% of their portfolio is going to the US; this'll strengthen RIM's stride, and this'll transcend to Europe & Asia when more business investors have more internation meetings when their economy picks up in the US late this or next year.
RIM is definately becoming more, Bold, shall we say. And I for one LIKE it.
So who's upgrading to the Bold when it debuts? Anyone going to order it unlocked, and import it??
Posted by Burgaz
Woo i have my 8310... now all i need is the unlock code!
Posted by Dogmann
Hi Prom1
That is indeed one of the options i may well consider so if you find one and want to ship it let me know.
I also agree that i now see the potential for Rim expanding in Europe and other Markets especially as they are now taking onboard 3G/HSDPA along with great Multimedia support. Not of course forgetting the Touch Screen device that will be a Voda Exclusive in Europe.
IMO most large corporates are already aware of the class leading security and ease of implementation and IT control. But now Rim BB's will appeal more to all users with there soon be released offerings and i really don't doubt they will take market share in Europe to the only thing I'm not sure of who will lose it to them.

Hope you are on BES then cos until the Networks upgrade their BB Server, HTML will be redundant.

Not sure what to make of those reports on the previous page. The US market doesnt have anything decent so its a smaller gap to close compared to in Europe.

Don't expect the Kickstart to ship before September. I'll see it on Training site before they officially announce it. Just like I did with the 8320. Sure the rumors of specs will pickup.

Yup, when it says NOT FOR SALE on the hardware I guess RIM really means it. Lol, he did a lot for the fans and I'm SURE relative residual interest leading to sales will result from CrackBerry.com editor in cheif. Hopefully RIM will re-enable his PIN or allow him to purchase one at a discounted price or ship him an official one. I love the red numbers contrasting the black keypad.

Anyone know where i can find the newest version of 4.5 for the 8310? I wanna give it a try. PM me or PIN me?

i need to find a blackberry pearl 8120 red or pink full housing, it has to be original not a cnn copy.
Any ideas.

Ok so i up graded to 4.5 on my 8310 this morning and lost bb maps! What the hell is the point in that when you have gps built in? So i'm now downloading 4.2 again lol.
Posted by themarques
You can go to BB website and download the MAPS again it works, also what version of 4.5 did you download?
Posted by Prom1
lesson to Burgaz, always backup your info via BBDM or BES before upgrading firmware. with 4.5 STILL in beta not official via provider or RIM its going to have issues with just a few apps not working. Not sure why.
well ppl I had my second interview at RIM in water loo and man did they have some SERIOUS questions for me. I was totally ill prepared, how can you prepare for behavioural questions or tech questions non related to BES, server, sql in depth?! Why does Exchange have group names?! Totally lost, and saddened because I think I bombed!
* well at least I learned something and know that I have a LOT more to learn beside my experience with BB or BES from the support side or user side. I guess I should've realized since University of Waterloo is right across the street from RIM's various bldg headquarters. I know in 4wks.

I've tried that. Just before it starts to down load the file a messages comes up saying my device doesn't meet the system requirements?
I downloaded 4.5.0.37. And yes i did delete the vendor file before installing it.
I did back up my device before the update. But i thought restoring it wouldn't change the o/s bak to 4.2? Would it?
Posted by Burgaz
Right i just downloaded the latest official release of 8310 4.2 tried to install the file on my pc and it came up with an error and wouldn't install. I'm now downloading it again....

vendor.xml file needs to be deleted EACH time you download & install a firmware for your particular phone model that it supports. There maybe another file to adjust I think - cannot recall it at the moment; may be irrelevant.
When you backup, its not he firmware thats backed up but the db's for the apps and the apps that are backedup & content (Address Book listing for Burgaz - all the contact #'s, email, Photo. Same for saved maps of BBMaps is also backed up if selected or part of FULL Backup. Even the browsers cache - if not previously cleared out).
Posted by Burgaz
Right i'm back on 4.2 and waiting for the official release of 4.5!
Don't worry i always delete the vendor file. And the back up failed to restore after the downgrade for some reason? Bummer.
Anyways... Has anyone ever got this running on a 8310? SpeedOmeter A guy on Crackberry says it works fine on his but i've been unsuccessful...
Cheers

i got speedometer running. I didn't have my APN settings entered. But now it crashes everytime the backlight times out....?
Anyone heard anything of the official 4.5 yet? The only thing i could find was saying early july... Can they delay it much longer??
Posted by themarques
Honestly all the reports on CB and even myself point to .37 being pretty much solid, if they work like the computer industry then I would say this is Master Gold.
I have had no memory leaks or crashes, the reception issue in previous versions is pretty much none existent now.
