Post 1000 in the Blackberry thread! Wooo!

Yes, very uncouth I know, sorry

Posted by tmagberry
I think there should be a special edition BB avatar!

Posted by Daedalus85
Hmmm, if only SE could bring out a phone that looks SIMILAR to a BB, then we could use that as a 'fake' BB

Posted by Daedalus85
Anyone know of the cheapest place to get BB Alerts? I've used the trial before, and my Dad's got it and swears by it, and it was kinda handy for me, but not enough so that I'd pay THAT much for it.

Posted by fatreg
isn't handango the only place to get it?

Posted by Daedalus85
I was afraid of that :/

I mean, £6.50 isn't bad, it's just more than I'd pay for ANY piece of software, let alone a little app for my BB lol.

I'm a tight arse, having been brought up on 'cracked copies' of stuff lol

Posted by fatreg
well, bust out some new connections today and offset your spirit points

Posted by Daedalus85
lol, how'd you know about spirit points?

And I do that anyway, only paid for two tanks of fuel since August

Another question that I just thought of as I got out of the shower, the little gold connectors on the back of my 8310, what are they for? Can I use them with a desk stand or something?

Posted by fatreg
that's exactly what they are for..

And how do I know about spirit points? cuz I'm brilliant! (went for an interview at O2 Poole a few years back, they deemed me too Orange-ified for them! muhahaha)

Posted by Daedalus85
Too Orangeified? Sounds about right, you know when you've been tango'ed!

Hmm, so desk stands, any got any ideas on a good/cheap one to get? The only ones I've ever seen involve plugging a miniUSB cable in the side :/

Posted by fatreg
you don't have to plug the cable in, but it won't charge without it!

Posted by Daedalus85
Ah, so then whats the purpose of the gold contacts? lol

I was hoping they'd charge it.

Posted by Daedalus85
Found this:

http://shop.crackberry.com/blackberry-charging-pod/5A100A3318.htm

Little pricey for what it is though :/

Posted by fatreg
pricey?

it's £12.50 you skinflint!

http://www.shopblackberry.com[....]y+8300&pid=F2222TWW2HF2ZSRLVD2

€35 at blackberry!

Posted by Nanu
They do charge it!!

May I suggest one of these. . .. . .

Since Fatreg previously mentioned that the 8310's gold contacts will charge in a deskstand; I'm assuming he meant it won't connect to the PC via those contacts.

Those that want a deskstand, do you usually sync/backup via Bluetooth?

Posted by Daedalus85
I hardly ever connect mine to my PC, as I don't have any appointments/calender notes/contacts to sync. All my contacts are backed up to the phone and SIM and thats good enough for me

I might try that one off ebay Nanu, looks more to be in 'my' price range, coz as C nicely put it, I'm a real skinflint

Posted by Nanu
I only paid £2.11 for mine shipped!!

It seems he has put his price up a little!

Posted by Daedalus85
Same guy, cheaper product lol!

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/USB-Cha[....]p1638.m118.l1247QQcmdZViewItem

Seems he has several, at different prices

Posted by Daedalus85
Just bought it, £4.49 delivered Only about a quid more than the silicone case I bought for it at work lol

Posted by tmagberry
THe offical BB charging pod is excellent and works very well.

Here you all go 4.5 for the 8310 use at own risk

http://rapidshare.com/files/103159056/8310_4.5.0PL2.7.0.40.exe

Posted by Daedalus85
Ooooh, excellent

However, excuse me being a noob, but what's the risk? :/

Posted by Nanu
it depends upon your religion

Posted by themarques
Ok so far BB Maps is not available on this version, usual trick to try and get it on wont work seems like a new bb maps will be done for 4.5. Facebook wasnt loaded back on but I am sure it can be downloaded.

Posted by Nanu
the modules for bb maps will be loaded but they wont work which is a pity as the camera will now Geo tag your pics!

Facebook will work but isn't reloaded as Themarques has pointed out! anyone using Empower HTML will find it also wont work and neither will BB's native HTMl viewer anticipated in this release, but fear not it will all come together eventually!

Posted by Daedalus85
I'm going to hang on for the final release then, I'd rather have it all working in one go

Posted by themarques
You might as well, this version though esthetically nice the signal drop out is reminiscent of my T-mobile v N95 connection (hence why I switched to o2) but otherwise when it is officially out its going to rock.

Does anyone here know for sure how much Blackberry would cost to add onto my Flext 25+web and walk plus tariff on T-Mobile?
I have asked T-mobile and had three different answers:
1st: We can activate it tonight and it is free on my tariff
2nd: You will need to change to flext 25 +web and walk plus with blackberry for no extra a month but it wont happen until my next billing date 3 weeks away.
3rd: basically the same as the first but it will cost an extra £5 a month.
I may try again in the morning and see what they say.

Just thought that I would try again to see if I can get a consistant answer and got told it would be £7.50 this time. Do these people know what they are doing?

Posted by zootzoot
@jcwhite_uk

I was told that its £5 if you have web n walk or £10 to add it on top of any tariff, if you dont have web n walk
So i pay £5 as i have web n walk.

I have Web and walk plus. I presume that should be £5 a month too. It just seems stupid that from 4 different phone calls, I have had 4 different answers.

Posted by zootzoot
t-mobile customer service put me through to there blackberry customer service and they added my blackberry account..
ask to speak to there blackberry customer service or blackberry help desk.

Just came back from the pre-taping of "The Hour" with host George Strombolopoulus here in Toronto. The live show airs later tonight I believe with the inserts of this mornings pre-taping. Guess who I went to see?!

Jim Balsillie!

The dude looks younger in person, and it was very cool to see him still nervous in front of a small, more intimate audience. If I figured out how to correctly take pictures (that were NOT so dark, let alone video) on my K850i (not much practice yet) then I would've. I did try to take an audio recording but I'm so PISSED at this phone I could throw it against the wall right now. If you press the red hangup button it dis-regards the current recording! What kind of stupid shit is THAT!

Anywho, I was hoping to see the 9000 being flashed but unfortunately he brought the 8820 (usually the 8320 is his main device). I wonder who's in charge of managing his emails on the number of devices he carries around - email duplication must be a nightmare as the server must be tricky to set some emails as read and some not when switching devices, unless he has many email accounts which are mirrored. Hardly any talk about RIM at all, as most of the questions where about his other endeavors (Hockey, philantropic installations, etc). However his passion is Hockey but not necessarily looking to purchase a team in Canada but as long as it falls in line with what his focus in that passion is. He forgets about tomorrow, and keeps an eye on the future, but lives for today and focus' on today when it comes to RIM.

There was a statement that he made that kinda shocked me but I think he's not letting anyone know more about. He mentioned that RIM's portfolio is not very diversified and its focused on the device & service. Its Go or BUST; almost to paraphrase him. I have a feeling its more than that given the home server application: BlackBerry Unite!

If you can catch the show later, then give it a peak; it's not a bad interview show, like nothing you've seen before. Also Jim's bouncer looks devilishly HUGE!!!!

I have a blackberry here, it is a white pearl (8110 or 8120 I have no idea) and I need to get the contacts off of it and on to an iPod Touch, any ideas?

I think he means that he wants to copy the contacts across not permanently delete them.

Is that a 1 or an I or an L? I'm guessing it has to be a 1 cause I an L can't be typed in

Posted by fatreg
I've added 1 too....

c'mon JC accept me...

Posted by jcwhite_uk
Edited now. On the BB it looked like a L but was actually a 1.

Posted by Daedalus85
I'll add you in a minute, me BlackBerry is currently.....'engaged' with my PC

Posted by Nanu
Somebody's BlackBerry's getting a new look!?

Posted by Burgaz
I'm quite like 4.5 now. The multimedia side of things is greatly improved Just having a couple of problems with the browser only loading half a page every now and then and the signal drop out when using BBmessenger.

I found by selecting your network to manual the signal will hold more than the sporadic drops its giving.

Posted by fatreg
I HATE MEMORY LEAKS....

DELETES ALL MY EFFING SMS, MMS, AND CALL LOGS...

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Posted by Nanu
I have found my signal drop to be less sporadic since upgrading! and even though I still get clocks from time to time all my messages are seeming to go through in BB messenger where as before they were not!

Posted by Marc_SE
I ended up re-installing 4.2.2 as 4.5 was being problematic (al before I read the workarounds on here!)

Ended up using JavaLoader to wipe my BB and then realised that I'd wiped out the CPW Naviagtor too! LOL

GeekSquad were LESS then helpful: "Who said you could upgrade the software? Why did you do that?". It wis like being back in school. The agent I spoke to ended up admitting that she didn't know what to do in this (although apparently, it's been covered in their training from RIM.) I'm expecting a phonecall back today with info on what can be done.

In the meantime, I had to chat to my mate who can put in a word with a TelMap Sales Manager to get me a replacement licence and the installation file.

Posted by themarques
I am in two minds about going back, but its more asthetics than anything thats keeping me on 4.5 so I might reinstall this evening and see how we go.

Not much has been added in way of functionality, besides video recording which il never use anyway.

Posted by Burgaz
There's a new theme (L), New Fonts, you can now create playlist one the BB rather than having to save them from pc. You can add pics to contacts. The Browser is desktop view as standard, documents to go software.... There's load of new things

Posted by Nanu
And Still to come Geotagging in photos which can then be opened in BB Maps and the location displayed, HTML email, Wireless Upgrade of the software with 30 days to change back.

Plus the new Voicenotes option is in there already!
