right.
strange topic this but what else did you expect from me?
me and my flat mate had a discussion over dinner about steak!
i love mine rare and he likes his well done..
how do you like your steak?
i love rare as i know this sounds wrong but the steak is cold in the middle, and you get juice coming out of it and it something to soak ya chips in
what do you think?

nah, I like my well done, burnt even!
the french say "bien cuit" for well done but when I worked in france and regularly went to a steak place they soon changed its name for me to Steak Anglais because bien cuit just wasn't well enough done for me!
I love Argentinian steak house, but not those ones you see in London, they're just for the tourists!
Posted by fatreg
yeah bein cuit isnt well done at all, well it is to a french man just not to anyone outside of france!
don't you find that well cooked steak is dry though?
i know a good steak should never dry out but inevitably it does.
i well fancy trying a blue rare but no steak house i've even been to will do it
this sounds horrible i know but raw steak is also nice, i often chop off a piece of steak before i cook it to munch on!
oooh while in on the subject! raw sausages and bacon is also nice.. i really dont know how im still alive! i should have been consumed by worms now but hey ho!

a good chef can cook steak well done and not dry it out
I suppose you like steak tartar too? thats served totally raw.
when I worked in Brussels the office canteen served steak au cheval (horse!) but that was just not nice at all
the thought of the raw other stuff you mentioned just makes me wanna

Well, you know my theories on steak Reggie!!
But those aside, how anyone can eat rare steak is beyond me, you may as well chop the cow yourself.
Posted by Berry
Well Reggie next time you come to dinner for Meat Fondue, I will throw the slab of cow at you...infact i wont even skin it for you
Having said that, i eat my steak as rare as i get it...so flash in the pan.....colour the outside...
not so

It's got to be well done for me too.
Like sushi, I could never eat any of that. Prawns ok but not raw fish.

reminds me of HHGTTG...
"..it was eventually decided to ... breed an animal that actually wanted to be eaten and was capable of saying so clearly and distinctly. And here I am."

I'm a Blue man.... I love it raw!

My local TGI Friday do blue and most other steak houses around Cardiff!

Not being too much of a steak-lover, i would prefer it well done. Even a little bit of over-cooking would be nice.. Man, i want to have a big plate of steak, with some spicy sauce, and i want it now!
Thanks folks, for making it occur to me, how am i gonna go to sleep now that i have this on my mind??

For me it has to be a 16oz thick sirloin served medium rare. It has to be cooked on the ouside but red on the inside.
Posted by Xugaa
I love mine non-existent and inside a preferably living bull/cow.
Posted by scottt
Rare all the way preferably with a bit of juice still coming out, cant bare to have it done any more gets all tough and not nice...
Posted by goldenface
I felt a bit ill after reading this thread
Runny red juices coming from any meat sounds a no-go. Meat can be pink but not runny.
Rib-eye steak is one of my favourites - the type that has the central piece of bone with big tender chunks of meat hanging from it. Mmmmmm - with Mashed potato and lots of greervee.

I like medium rare!
Love Sushi to!

vegi here and this thread is vile....
although who ever said they liek theirs well-done - think it was masseur.... you described it so nice i even fancied a bite
what about sauces though peeps.... is it gravy all the way? or we got any peppercorn heads here? or maybe even Jim Beam saucers?
Posted by axxxr

I like this liver gravy sauce/chutney masala thing!
Mmmmm!
Posted by goldenface
Gravy made from the juices that the meat was cooked in is always the best I think. Made with a wine and butter then reduced to thicken. mmmMMMmmmm.
Posted by leeboy13
im a peppercorn boy myself.... although i have a nice, skinny, dry pice of quorn..... i remember this thing i bought a few years back.... it was like ham but called... 'not meat'...... really didnt need the title, if you tried it, you knew it wasnt meat
Posted by lamont
im with leeboy! Peppercorn sauce, you cant have gravy with a steak no matter what its made from!!
Posted by Berry
Agree with Lamont...Peppercorn sauce with large mushrooms....
Infact just a big slab of steak on one plate with the sauce and then the "pommes-frites" on another.....
Posted by fatreg
Thats better than the steak pic your wife showed me!!!
fatreg

The pic I showed Fat reg was from a website, a childbirth one to be exact....which is why I cannot eat steak anymore!!!
Reggie do you not know what kebab means!??!!?!?!?
Posted by fatreg
no i dont and i dont think i want to know that you very much FG1.....
fatreg
Posted by fairygirl1
No you dont!! Just think Jade Goody in BB (before she was famous)!

ewwwwww FG1..

Steak: grab it by its horns wipe its arse and slap it on my plate!!
I don't think i could eat it from the packet, it has to be a little warmer than me at least, but if the blood doesn't run when i cut in to it i send it straight back!
Sushi: for all those who have never tried sushi i suggest you try it Sushi is made with white, short-grained, Japanese rice mixed with a dressing made of rice vinegar, sugar, salt, kombu, and occasionally sake.(wikipedia)
sushi means rice and can be eaten rolled with vegetables, meat or fish (not necessarily raw!)
deffo worth a try!!
Posted by fatreg
if blood comes out of your steak id be worried.
blood should never ever come out of a steak, if it has its not been cured properly,
you should get juice, but not blood.
fatreg
Posted by fairygirl1
Nah, not interested in swinging anymore Burgaz, too boring for me and Tbag.
As for reggie being innocent..... sorry let me just get my breath back after choking.......
Posted by Nanu
ok for the record i'll change that not blood, but red juices
Posted by >500
definately medium rare for me. A piece of steak is so much better with some juice.... I dont like having a dry piece of meat......
When i as in Thailand when i was 12, i was in a restaurant with the family, my brother and i ordered a steak and the waiter asked if we wanted it medium. We both thought she meant medium as in the size. The steak came and it was red
Posted by lastikcizme
@nanu, i've also heard that some people prefer it with some "red juice" on. Not the way i would have my meal, though..

@ leeboy13...
Good on you being a veggie, but I smell the temptation within you, your mind is clouded, surely a path to the dark side I fear?
Posted by leeboy13
but the dark side is tempting lol... nah, i cant ever see me going back to be honest
Posted by Berry
FG1 used to be veggie....
Then i introduced her to Mr Ronald MacDonald's very healthy Big Mac....
Posted by Xugaa
I'm a vegan by the way, became a vegetarian at about 12 and recently have made the move to vegan. Sometimes things can be tempting (not meat), but I'm doing fine and there are plenty of great things for me to eat and things that I can still eat. Meat doesn't appeal to me at all now, in fact it disgusts me to be honest. Mind you, as a young child the only meat I really liked anyway was chicken. Besides, being a vegan/vegetarian properly and eating the right things means a much more healthier life anyway.

and i agree vegi's can have a better diet.... 'can'.......
there is more choice out there for meat eaters..... although these days you can get almost anything in an alternative format...... even vegi bacon - which by the way is rough!!!!
