Sony Ericsson's plan is to move away from the standard “candybar" format for their latest camera phone and could adopt a design along the lines of Nokia’s N93 model.
ESATO NEWS
A patent filing from 2003 shows a device strikingly similar to the N93 (pictured below) with claims that it will have a multi directional hinge allowing the phone to be used in a variety of configurations.
The patent was filed before Nokia developed the N93 so it is surprising that there has not been any legal action by boys at Sony Ericsson.

Maybe they thought 4 years ago the design would never work but now they've seen Nokia and Moto (MPX300) in aciton they realise it does actually work..?

6 November 2003!! Only if they didn't hold back and manufactured the design. Most people surely think it's a Nokia concept. Pity.

that looks like it has a QWERTY keyboard.

We must remember that the above diagrams are for illustration purposes only. We musn't read too much into it.
I don't quite understand what the creator of the original article is getting at.
The N93 has exactly the same form-factor as the
SO903i in Japan which was announced weeks ago so to say
is to launch a phone like the N93 means nothing as it already has done so. The dual hinged SO903i.

Japan... Japan... Japan... Again Japan... Japanese
phone release Get me sick!
World phone please!

to be honest, i am happy that those japanese se fones arent released in europe. honestly, some of them looks like toys, mainly shrp v902 style...

Here we go..... Japan-bashing again.

Japanese mobile phones are also very big.
I miss mobile phones like Ericsson T66...
Posted by goldenface
But the
Premini is tiny and the SO902 isn't big at all.
So to say all Japanese phones are big is a bit of a sweeping generalisation.
Especially when you have the Nokia N93 ripping great big holes in people pockets.

You mean like compensation for what? Dropping bombs on them during the war? Is that supposed to be funny?

Oh dear this is getting silly. I think the Japanese and Koreans are fantastic with their technology but i just hope that not all their phones have poor mp3 and polyphonic sound like some of those Japanese Sharp phones. Anyway there is no way Nokia ripped off SonyEricsson with their design if they made it and got out the N93 before them then its tough it does not mean they copied them. Whos to say SonyEricssons design was made before Nokias. Nokia are far more innovative and original and produce phones far quicker than SE so i think its just who is there first. I still dont like the N93 though its too big.

Don't fool yourself about size ! The N93i is as big as the P990i. As the people in the handycam forum put it - the smallest solid state handycam with a integrated foto camera which also can access the internet (gprs,edge,3g), be used as a modem and instant messenger terminal (icq, aol, yahoo, msn, jabber) - oh yeah - and it does make phone calls too

ok back on topic now, people
people once thought
would never jump at the thin bandwagon, now there's the W880; so this shouldn't be so far-fetched. also, i've seen this handycam with a swivel and fold-able hinge (like the E70) in one i just don't remember what it's called, so that's one thing we should look into: Sony has already done a workable form factor. interesting how
plays the market..

Personally I reckon designs like the Sharp 903 are more practical than this one.

hope its not as big and brickish like the N93. looks good though
