OKIE DOKIE PIG IN A POKIE!
So I have recieved my Nokia 8800 Special Edition in Gun Metal Grey and decided that even though its a rare handset that is no longer sold in normal Phone shops that some ppl do have them and i want a phone thats unique so i've decided to embark on a project to get the back plate of the phone etched with a design of my choice...
on this thread i'm gonna detail the process and costs an also to help me find an image for the phone!!!

Ok.... its only been a few mins but i've learned two things:
1.Laser Etching and Laser Marking are two different things!
2.For stainless Steel only laser marking can be used!!! (so this is the option i will go for!)
I have also emailed Laser Devils (http://www.laserdevils.com/) who seem to be THE guys in the UK that could posibly do this for me at a good price! They engrave Ipods so there aint much difference!!! lol.
I'm also buying a spare back from cnn.cn so that i can keep the original one without tampering wit it as its already etched by Nokia with the Number 14!!!
Oh an i've decided not to etch the front panel as i would need to dismantel the phone and even though i could if i wanted to without damaging it i dont want to jus yet!!! I'll be happy with just the back being done!
I've also found the following images for consideration for the back panel!
I love manga... spesh Final Fantasy (i own every original FF game from 1 on the NES to 12 on PS2, even if they r in Japanse!)...

yeh... lol. they r all numbered so not really that unique... whereas once mine is etched there wont be another one like it in the world with the same image etc...

I have just come across this blog.
I am the man for this job.
I have successfully tested on many spare phones and have succeeded in lasering my phone front and back (black 8800).
£275 lasering front and back and on desktop phones charger stand.
If you require the 8800 from me too then the prices are as follow:
8800 regular (silver or black) - £750.
Sirocco 8800 (silver or black) - £925.
My work is legit, and proffessional - if you dont believe me then email me for a image of my work, but no time wasters. (website coming soon)

all u need to do is send the template (size an spec of the casing) and the design an they will laser mark it for u!!! all done within 7days!

Hello ALL,
Thanks for your interest.
I hear one of you say LASERDEVILS.COM - Firstly well done in finding a place that will look into the bespokness of lasering an Ionized Stainless Steel encasement.
It took me around 50 attempts until I achived the correct, scale/drop/laser strength and distance to get a detailed laser marking much similar to that achived by the Aston Martin Nokia 8800.
So by all means you huys can rush of to LASERDEVILS or whoever, BUT I know what I'm doing, and I'm doing it well - make sure your contact knows exactly what type of metals he/she is working with, and make sure they research HARDCORE into the molecular structure of the Paint/Spray (for black Nokias), is this is the problem area.
Any how, I shall attempt uploading Pics, tonight (if i can get hold of a camera etc.)
I think you'll be pleaseantly surprised at the outcome.

these guys know exactly what they r doing! lol. Plus the SE8800 i have has no paint on it at all! Its stainless steel gun metal... lol.
And as i have 3 spare backs am sure i'll b ok if its not 100% as i'll get another one done... just that i'm not into spendin the amount u want to get somethin laser marked lol.

am gutted coz i wanted to pay someone i dont know who doesnt have a website or company registration number to have my phone for sometime and charge me £172 more than the company laserdevils.com who r fully registered company with years of experience at laser marking lol.

Hi all,
well he didn't respond to my 2 Pm's requesting a quote for what i want done on just the back of mine either. So when i feeling a little better will get in touch with the great company that actually exists and has examples of it's work to get mine done. Not sure i am going to get a spare battery cover though as having just looked at CNN.com they just don't look quite right although they are meant to be OEM and $6.50 doesn't seem like the right price either, decisions decisions

I know I said I would post some pics here, BUT, Ive gone one step further, and had some proffessional product pictures taken, Im hoping to be Online bt next Monday.....
I did attempt taking some images myself, but because of the reflective surface, I couldnt manage to get the detail, you wont be dissapointed with what your going to see on the website! ( your probly thinking why not post one of my attempts at a photot of the phone anyway - well as Im going to extended efforts, Id rather you all see the final result)

Sorry but how can you expect to be taken seriously we are still yet to see any examples of your work how ever poor the image quality. I have had my macbook laser etched I can upload some pictures and the guy that did it for me his name is Sonar really cool dude if you want me to put you in touch with him I can do so. We worked on the vector images for ages to get it right and did loads of test runs before we did the macbook.
To the poster above me...dont take it to harsh when people are just a little sceptical...like you said life is what you make it. I am sure you can understand from there point of view but it will be interesting to see your work this coming Monday.

Hi all,
In beat Junkie's defence i contacted him Friday night by phone and E-Mailed him some pictures of what i would like done. He has got back to me today with some idea's and a quote. Unfortunately just found out from my MRI scan i have a protrusion of a disc hitting a nerve root so will be needing an op real soon so have had to put this on hold for now. So due to pain and meds may not be around for a month or so but will update if and when i get something done.
