Do you think se are making better phone than nokia, considering they have the n95/n800 coming soon? Are there any se phones coming soon to rival them?

Posted by lovegadgets
I honestly believe SE ar bringing out technically better phones than Nokia.

I work in the industry and get to see both brands being used.

Having used both N80 and N73 i think the K800 and P990i are much better.

Both SE and Nokia have recently had software issues. Nokia's seem to be worse than those i've experienced with SE.

The N with GPS and 5 meg camera will be better than the SE phones currently available but the question is will it actually work properly, if it's an N80 with better cam and GPS it will still be a very flawed phone.

... The n800 is an internet tablet, not a phone...
As to the "bias"??? Why don't you post the same question on club nokia (or similar) and compare the results... See how long it takes until someone says, "I work professionally with both, and let me tell you..." (no offence)... I still "love" my k750i, and I quite fancy my wife's w810, but since I bought an e61 some 5 months ago I strangely stopped checking the "upcoming phones" sections... Every time I use it it seems perfect, though I've read about other people's problems...
And overall I find SE's phone better lookers...
So... Well, I mean, if you checked every single post here you'd probably find that "this is better than that" makes up 30% of all posts... And that's within
SE...!? So, how long is that piece of string?

Y is dat every1 keeps askin dis same question?
There's nothin lik perfectionism in d world of gadgets! Everythin hav short lives as everythin is gettin improved...

Don u c d graphics card war b/w nVidia & ATI. One wud b better dan other 4 som period. But its jus matter of time 4 d other to catch up n even better.

Same goes 4 fons. Both Nok n SE r gud companies. Both release gr8 fons now n den. Both companies also release fons wit stupid unstable fw!

Wat i gotta say is, DON B LOYAL TO ANY!

If u gonna b loyal to a particular manufacturer u'l b missin best of wat d other has 2 offer!

Wen it coms 2 buyin fons u gotta behav lik chameleon...

Now, 4 me d best is WindowsMobile

(but hate Uncl Gates

I will always be a NOKIA fan ! I ONLY buy fones because I am here at Esato Though honestly, being forced to get me some fones, made me REALIZE that they are GOOD fones after all . . . there will always be a STRICT competition between Nokia and . . . and I will NOT be surprised that if ONE day will be overtaking Nokia in the #1 spot !

FYI... SE already did topple Nokia! and regarding n95, i bet SE will release cybershot 2 phone which obviously will be better than the first and technically better than n95

series 60 is better then UIQ..

but se "normal" UI is better then s40

series 60 is also slightly better then normal SE UI.. stronger multitasking.. and better quality apps outside of java..

I'd agree 2 dat. S60 is much better than SE UI wen it coms 2 app availability n multi-taskin...
Why is dat S60 platform not used by SE? I certainly wud hav used SE only if they'd som S60 fons.

Nokia has 35% market share whereas SE has 7.5% in 2006.

Nokia sold 40 million high-end powerful smartphones (most of them S60) in 2006. SE sold a only 2 million p900/p910/p990/m600/w950.

Nokia is the world's biggest seller of camera and music enabled device.

Nokia has 48% smartphone market share whereas SE has about 2%

Nokia sold 6 million N-series in 3 months. SE sold 18 million walkmans in a year.

N95 is probably unrivalled.

Nokia has about 12 phones with WIFI. SE has 1.

Nokia has 3 phones (n93/93i/95) with VGA 30fps video recording. SE has none.

Nokia developed S60 on its own incl. peripherals like webbrowser, gaming platform etc. SE bought UIQ3 from Symbian.

Nokia makes more more margin at 18% per phone compared to SE 13%.

And these are the unbias truth.

wait a minute... UIQ started off as a venture between ericsson and UIQ i believe.. but now sony ericsson has purchased it completely....

i believe it all started with the r380

Oh stop these stupid comparin an all... whether SE has UIQ or not, we all know its an unstabl n non-productiv platform (atleast 4 now). SE shud pick up the pace, release mor affordabl UIQ handsets, creat developer friendly policies, create better hardwar (certainly must learn a lesson from P990i) etc...

If SE cudn do these... sory 2 say they'd loose mor of celfon market...

For now...Nokia has no competition in smartfon market. And that wud continu if SE wudn learn frm their mistakes.

For now there's no point in our discussion of which's better dan d other!

@dayz - . . . and WHERE did you GET your FIGURE dude How can a 4th or even 5th PLACE (then) (position) mobile phone manufacturer TOPPLE the #1 mobile phone seller and all for the Nth time and . . . running Perhaps did overtake Nokia in some category or even in just 1 quarter, but not over-all !

its all up to personal taste at the end. imo there isnt a "better" fone, if u prefer se, go for it, if u prefer nokia, than take that... its so simple

true. but ericsson already sold off UIQ OS long time ago. If you have noticed, I mentioned new UIQ3 (and not the old UIQ1/2) which is totally a Symbian Ltd product. So I am still correct to say SE (as an entity) has no experience in developing a smartphone OS. (of course this will change with purchase of UIQ3)

UIQ is a wholly owned subsidery of Symbian (itself part owned by both Ericsson and SE, Nokia and others). Probably, some of the same programmers who programmed UIQ 1, still work at UIQ. UIQ3 will continue to be developed by the very same company, the same people, in the same location it has always has been (sweden). The company changes hands, not necessarily the experience or knowledge base

UIQ3 was developed by UIQ under Symbian ownership but with a very strong input from SE. SE have been deeply involved with UIQ since the P800, and probably kicked in the most development bucks at all points of development (as I doubt Nokia would want to spend much on a rival os). How can you say they don't have experience at OS development? Nothing has changed except an asset has switched from one corporate body's asset register to another.. Everything else is still exactly as it was before.

All SE need to do, is manage the development effectively, it doesn't matter what technical experience they have. That gets purchased along with all the other UIQ assets.

UIQ isn't a bad platform..not at all..and to be honest, it's only going to get better.

Ive been a s60 user since the launch of the 7650, and ive seen (and owned) a few handsets that haven't been upto par...but you'll find that with other manufacturer's too...

At the end of the day, it's all down to preference..
