Posted by Vein
Not very nice at all imho

Posted by shaliron
Looks very wide to me.

Posted by SE4NICK
Most new motorolas are VERY wide, and axxr this news is SO OLD

Posted by >500
@se4nick

the news may be old. But it hasnt been shown on esato has it?

axxxr is our news man. He is doing a fantastic job, just say thanks.

Posted by deluded
Yup, @jedi, agree with you on that. Thanks to axxxr for always bringing us the latest tech news. The motorola looks good, but as I've been saying for a while now, I think they really should improve on their UI. I wonder when they're gonna do that?

@axxxr
Thank you for keeping us updated. IMVVHO, the light green-balck combination looks too scary...not too nice to see.

Posted by arien617
Looks nice... Black and orange would be nice but that would be too much like a phone. Black blue wouldn't be bad though.

And thanks axxxr for keeping us updated.

Looks ok for a moto.

Posted by deepu
moto needs a good camera and good UI, really.

Posted by Tiny
Really dont like the looks of that, the only moto phones i've ever liked are the RAZR and KZR...

Posted by sosojerk
looks ugly.

Posted by 6230

Posted by se_p800

Posted by LasseMan

Posted by daremo

Posted by bedull
Looks just okay

I got a great deal from Vodafone Retentions when they get it in stock on the 25th May! Planning to pick one up.

Hi all,

Well as exciting as this was when announced as it will be the first UIQ3 phone without a touchscreen and although the specs are quite impressive that colour combo IMO is awful. It had a full write up in last months Stuff magazine where the construction and especially the keypad are describe as black shiny plastic yuck not one for me it looks like a Fisher Price plastic toy phone bending flip or not i really don't like it. Also whilst having HSDPA and being pretty well loaded no WiFi either.

looks good to me, and as arien mentioned a black and orange combo would be great too. there's just something about flourescent green on black, it reminds me of very gadgety things at the same time being chic and that's what this phone is about I think.

Posted by Dogmann
Hi Bodum,

If you and Marc SE like it that's fine by me look forward to hearing what you think of it in use, we all appreciate different things i loved my N93 still think it is a great device and you most probably hated it. I will never say never maybe in the flesh it will redeem itself but from what i have seen it is very plastic and i prefer metal to plastic so just doesn't appeal yet.

Marc

@dogmann

as much as I like the design, I won't be getting this one as I got my eyes set on the T650i. I already have a Nokia e65 for work and while the specifications and looks might be good for me, this phone just doesn't have that extra bit of zing that makes me want to get it. as a secondary handset? the T650i still wins I say .

Posted by Marc_SE
Well I'll post some thoughts about it when I get my hands on one.

The one thing I really want to use it for is HSDPA (in that, replacing my K800i as the BT modem for my MacBook). Taking a hit with the 2MP camera *as opposed to the 3.2MP on my K800i* but can't have everything. Might have to try and use the P1i camera a little more.

Roll on 25th May!

Hi Marc-SE,

will be interested to see how it performs hadn't realised Voda were running HSDPA although with there Data charges there is no way i would use them.
I'll stick with T-Mobile till my next review and then may just go with 3 for their Slingbox offers.

Sorry - I should've made it a little clearer. I'm planning on getting the handset unlocked and then chucking in my T-Mob simcard.

Will post up some thoughts when I get it.

Posted by Nanu
I personally like the looks of this phone, but I too read Stuff magazines report and was put off, for me it doesn't have any redeeming features, that said it is the only Motorola I have looked twice at in the last few years!

@ Marc_se
please do give full reports as soon as you are able!

It seems some new UIQ3 phones from Moto are to be presented starting from tomorow

http://mobhappy.com/blog1/2007/05/14/moto-says-z8-isnt-a-one-off/

Posted by himlims_nl
isn't this supposed to be a linux phone?
does it leave the option to install (custom) linux software? if se it's going to be my 1st motorola.
but i proble should wait for trolltek's greenphone

Posted by Dogmann
@himlims_nl

No Linux on this one as it is actually the first UIQ3 non touchscreen phone so the UI interface should be a step up from the normal Moto offerings and apparently works very well.

The other unique point of this device is the fact it will use Micro Sd cards 4gb now and is able to support up to 32gb when they become available.

no wifi on the Z8 is a huge disappointment.

Posted by KingBooker5
that makes the k800 look sexy!

Posted by bodum
the phone's been officially announced I think. why is this still in the rumours thread?

Posted by laffen
I checked out the Z8 during CeBIT, and in my opiniton, this was the most interesting new model from Motorola. I found it quite good actually.

Bad thing Motorola used the non-standard UIQ 3.1 non-touchscreen interface. i wonder if there will be applications for this only non-TS UIQ phone. if they could only continue the A-series utilize UIQ touchscreen then it'll be better for software support and people could have their choice aside from the great SE.

but i agree that was the only interesting mobile phone from he motorola nowadays(at least for me).

Posted by rabmozzer
I'm not one to be attracted to Motorola mobiles but this one has to be the most attractive phone I've seen from them. I hope there UIQ is as nice as the outside and not just skin deep...

Well IMHO it's nicer than a Chocolate.

Pls NOTE: S60 platform apps can be easily converted over to UIQ3.1. Motorola was very smart to strip out the modular components of this new UIQ OS while enabling others that is supported by UIQ3.0 but never used on the P990/M600. This new non-touchscreen interface will enable MORE developers and quicker time-to-market apps.

Use your imagination, stop the hating just because its Motorola. Just remember Moto used UIQ HEAVILY and kept it quite alive when SE was still on the P800 & P900/10.

Shoot! Their UIQ 3.1 nts(non touch screen) device is one step ahead from
Damn, im expecting such kind of devices was one of mid range tier

@Prom1

I don't hate it because it's a Motorola, I hate it because it is black and fluorescent Green Plastic and IMO looks cheap and nasty. I do believe it is actually a great device both hardware and software wise with truly great abilities. Possibly the most advanced of all the UIQ3 devices so far.

As i have said i will reserve final judgement until i see it in the flesh but just doubt I'm going to like it, i really just don't get how they can make other devices from choice materials and one of their flagship devices from Plastic.

I am also looking forward to seeing the full on Q9 with HSDPA when it eventually arrives even though that is a WM6 device.

Marc,

I totally agree about the lake of choice plastics. I can only dream of what this Z8 would look like if they give it the treatment of the Z6 or even the new Razr2!

However, I cannot ignore the 30fps of qvga recording & playback along with a shipping movie & a2dp stereo headset! Too much value to ignore. However It must have EDGE on quadband, and varying sites from Motorola are conflicting. Motorola DID say that they've invested too much in this handset for it to be a one off!

The Moto q9 is supposed to also offer 30fps playback.
