why on the supported phones list is w950 and not m600?
AND the downloaded install file it's called k800_amaze_a_locationet.jad
AND the downloaded file is unable to run. it says :cannot read the jar file

looks like i have to wait for my girlfriend to come with her k750i
lets assume on the k750 works. when i use the software, the only charges i have is on gprs, right? don't i have to pay the time i use the GPS receiver?

Posted by rule_breaker
This is just the software, you still need a GPS reciever.

No there are no extra charges once you have your own gps reciever, don't even need to use gprs.

Posted by johnny_g
the program won“t start if you don“t let it use gprs so you still need to pay

anyone got this to work yet? I've just tried again with no success

Hi all,

from looking on their website if you want moving detailed maps it will need and use an active Data connection. To be honest seeing as a good GPS is needed anyway and Tom Tom can bought for less than £90 and is by far the best Sat Nav mapping and directions IMHO i really can't see the point in this 2nd rate at best product. As if you are using it a lot and start racking up Data charges it would over the course of Year cost you as much if not more than Tom Tom. I would rather purchase Tom Tom once and know that is the end of the cost along with a good GPS unit and have the best solution possible with no additional costs to catch me out.

Hi All,

My name is Joel and I am one of the Developers of amaze gps.

Marc, regarding your post I would like to show an angle on the usage of navigation and its cost.

1. Considering you have a gps, or you buy one for a reasonable price (~50$)
2. Consider you need the navigation option once a week

To save data (money) you use the arrow navigation (no map tracking). your data transportation will be very low, as low as 5K for short routes and 10-50K for cross country routes. In the next version of amaze, arrow navigation will be even much better, it will display true topology of the driving direction.

As you can see, it's very intuitive. Furthermore, for a very low price you get an added value for you mobile device which you are already carrying with you any where.

We try to make our application as usable and light weight as possible. If you have nice ideas you can offer them to use in our forums.

The average user uses the application on a weekly/monthly base, not daily base. If you need a gps guidance once in a while this is by far the best option today.

Joel.

What maps do you use?

you don't need maps when you navigate with arrow screen.
in the arrow screen, you see the name of the street you are in, the name of the next street and you see a very big arrow that represent your next turn.
it's very clear and simple.

the same arrow will appear in the map navigation screen but in a smaller size.
navigating with maps is fun but not necessary. if you don't have an unlimited data package, arrow screen is a very good option.

edit: needless to say that the while driving it's best not to look at the screen at all. you only need to listen to the vocal instructions.

Ok, let me put it this way. Who is your data source, TeleAtlas or NavTeq? I would guess NavTeq, right?

...and Joel... I see maps on your homepage, mate.

@joel_p

OK so now i understand your product a bit better and the fact that it is really targeted at the non frequent user and this soloution my well suit some people i really can't comment as i am not one of them. When ever i have to travel anywhere i do not know the best route or actual address i just turn on my GPS receiver and start Tom Tom i have full map views or simplified displays similar to the ones you have shown. As it so happens i like a full map view with arrows distances and spoken instructions along with speed camera warning with an audible alert are my preferences. I have had my GPS receiver for close to 2 years now i think i am on my second version of Tom Tom and besides these purchases i have incurred no other charges whilst in MO having detailed guidance if not from the best one the best Sat Nav solutions.

But yet again this is only my choice and preference it may not be right for everybody, but i can tell your solution would not be right for me either.
