I have searched the net and this forum, but I cannot get anything to work.
can anyone write a simple, step by step guide to set up email for any of the following email providers:
Freeserve, Yahoo, O2, Hotmail or Lycos.
Everytime I have tried anything, it keep saying that connection to the server has failed
I have O2 WAP GPRS set up (have also tried to det it to dial into freeserve but I ge the same error), do I need anything else set up?
I have tried reading this forum, phoning O2 and using the automated setup on the sonyericsson site but nothing works.

I tried it (only difference was that I had to connect using O2 Wap GPRS because I don't have the O2 GPRS option), it goes past the connecting bit (as usual), then tries to connect to the server and comes up with the same error.
I don't understand, everything else works (MMS, WAP etc)

@talbius
I'm not too sure about setting up Yahoo, or Hotmail. I remember reading stuff on Esato about setting up Yahoo (I think you have to subscribe to the service in order to set it up), but don't think it's possible with Hotmail. Do a Search for info on Yahoo mail.
To find out what the IP address is, you have to "ping" the server.
While online, go into the Start menu, Programs, Accessories, Command Prompt and type "ping name of server" and it will list the IP address of the server.
For example, to find the IP address for the POP Freeserve server I typed: ping pop.freeserve.com
and hit Return, easy!

ok i'll try that, thanks for the help

have tried changing the POP server, it tried connecting for about 1 minute (normally a second or 2) but then eventually came up with the same error,
I tried it again, but after about a minute, I pressed 'NO', then it tried sending mails & said "Send Failed"

I can only suggest you keep trying to connect, simply because all the info you have put in to the phone is absolutely correct. The problem, I suspect, is that the Freeserve servers are busy because it's a popular ISP. Try connecting at different times of the day. Failing that, call O2 and ask them for help. When I had problems sending mail through my ntlworld account I spoke to orange and they sorted it out, no problem. Trouble is, the solution to my problem had to do with SMTP authentication which you fix by swapping the SMTP servers of your ISP and your network provider, something you've already done, with no joy.
I don't know what else to suggest, sorry!

One more thing, have you tried inserting your whole E-mail address in the Mailbox option instead of just your user name?

It's also important for some servers that you have entered you DNS server ip in your data account in order to find them.
