Hi every one, I'm planning a trip to Amsterdam in February for me and a few friends, now i know sum of you have been there so i would like some expert advice.

My dates are 5th till the 8th of February, 3 nights, do you thinks that's enough?

1) I want to know what is the best area to stay in?

Im after good cafes and some museums but we don't mind getting a cab to see the culture, the cafes would ideally be on the doorstep of the hotel lol

2)Also if anyone can recommend any hotels?

Any any other local information would be appreciated too

thank you

looking at pics i quite like the idea of amsterdam but i'm dead agaisnt any kind of drug taking..

is it wise for me to go? or is cannabis too readyily available?

and yes i can trust myself not to get any but im sure the people i'd go with and the people there would like to dabble a bit.

a yes im fully aware that not all Amsterdammers are drug takers but it appears to be what most people go there for.

@ P900 lover.. im not over taking ya thread matey.. this just got me thinking!

cheers

Check out the Heineken Experience when your there. Well worth a visit, and you even get a gift at the end, and a couple of drinks on the way around.

We stayed at the hotel cordial on Rokin, which was about a 5 min walk to Dam square. The hotel was very basic, and no frills, and thats exactly as we liked it.

Is Dam square like the central point?

Yeah, Dam Square is the central point. Most cafe bars and the RLD, are just off Dam Square.
