Yeah im told alot by other members to debrand the sucker,
but I like the branding lol
btw I really don't think it will fix my issue!
ive been bashing it about using the slider slamming it so far it's not turned off maybe the cold made it switch off last week for a change
its warrantied till the end of 2009 so i'll just have to get used to the fact it nay need attention every so many weeks lol
Vodafone offer a home repair service which I never knew about,
basically if your unable to get down to there shop,
they'll make arrangements to collect my phone and go from there..
well I think thats what he ment

Thanks Dogmann, will probably take you up on that at some point
It is a bit bulkier than I had prepared myself for but I think with a decent horizontal case it will be fine. Would have preferred the front keypad to be spaced out a bit more as there's plenty of room.
Other than that though first impressions are good, I think it looks classy and feels well built. Both screens are bright and colourful, as expected the internal keyboard is excellent. Can't get away from that internal screen though I mean wow - it's hard to believe the external screen is the same resolution as the N93, it seems so tiny. It's really impressive how well S60 works with the large screen in fact you'd be forgiven for thinking it had been written with the communicator in mind.
Just looking at accessories now, going to order up an official case but not found an in car holder that quite matches what I'm after though.

Psst! This is the whisper in you're ear ... get rid of that E65 FAST (recover lost $$) and fall back to a backup phone. Then await the new E61i replacement

@johnmcl7
First tip to make the inner screen brighter hold CTRL and the light bulb button there 4 settings available.
Also IMO the best cases are either the PDAir Horizontal case or the Bugatti comfort case both can be found on E-Bay as can a in car holder that allows you to have the inner screen showing.

hi all
was looking at e series phones thanks boba! was wondering wot u thought about the e65 although i cant seem to find it cheaper than 225 sim free(red) and nowhere seems to have the purple colour
any ideas?
Posted by BobaFett
i would also suggest to take a closer look on e51. it has a smaller screen, but very handy, great batt life and full of apps, features. or lets say e61i? or is it too big?
Posted by gabbyevs
e51 looks ok 61 looks a little big for me
Posted by HOBBS
Forget about tha size of the e61.get it.its a great phone.
Posted by BobaFett
yes. but i would prefer the e61i, better keypad imo, however the keys next to the joypad are a bit small

Ya see gents, you just gotta love a woman that loves gadgets & loves the quality of whats included!
Miss UK, if you can suggest what improvements should be in phones - or lady's alike then we'd have a few new improvements that may better how we interract with them.
For now I'd say stay with the N80IE for backup. Cheif of team for S60 Touch is a lady - and with all your investments & time for S60 apps SHOULD be compatible with the S60 touch. I'm guessing by late summer a product or two with touch will begin to ship.
W960i looks sweet; I just cannot use it.

I'm having a slight issue with the E90 although I'm not sure if it's the phone or network, I'm leaning towards the network at the moment. Basically over the last couple of days I've missed several calls despite the phone being in full reception, the person calling just gets the answer machine. After missing yet another call this morning I did some expermientation phoning from a landline and sure enough the phone missed some calls, rang with others...I switched off the answering machine and received the message 'This phone is currently unavailable, please phone back later"
The most obvious test was to swap out the simcard and try again, I put the Vodafone simcard in the N93 and an Orange simcard in the E90. The E90 now rang with every call however the N93 (with the same simcard) frequently showed 'network busy' and wouldn't dial out. So it doesn't look like the E90 is at fault although I'm puzzled why the Blackberry hasn't had this issue, it did occasionally occur with the N93.
So is this a known fault at all? What happens if you ring a phone which is on a network suffering congestion issues?
On a lesser note, I can't seem to get GPS working - it comes up searching for satelites then about 10 seconds later claims GPS not available. I've heard the GPS is pretty useless but this was on high ground in the middle of the countryside with no trees. I've checked it is using the internal GPS and not a bluetooth GPS unit which is the case.
I ordered the Nokia case which arrived today but seems completely useless to me, thought it had a belt clip and would easily slide in and out but neither are the case. You seem to have to really stuff it in and I can't actually fit it on my belt which means I'm going to have to sell that one, does anyone have any recommendations? Something similar to the Blackberry case would be ideal.
Thanks,
John

I have emailed Vodafone about a Trade in on my E65 ive told them about all the spots of bother and that enough is enuff.
im just awaiting for them to reply back and see if they'd let me exchange now for another phone W960i would be great

@johnmcl7
See my post at the bottom of page 47 as to the best cases and if you go to All About Symbian they have a E90 case review with pictures. My favorite was the Bugatti but i now much prefer the PDAir Horizontal case.
I also have the same problem with calls also on VodaFone same as you checked phone with different Sim no problem and problem now appears in the other phone with the Voda Sim, but it is intermittent and i do also think a Network problem.
Also is yours still Voda branded? as i would recommend getting rid of it unless you really have a good reason for keeping it.

Ach, sorry I missed that as it was at the bottom - will have another look. Looking for something that I can easily slide the E90 in and out of rather than keep the E90 in it permanently, while I didn't like move of the Blackberry I did like its case.
Mine is an O2 one, running on Vodafone - I think the only branding left is the shutdown screensaver, once I get to grips with it I'll look at properly debranding it.
Pretty sure Voda is to blame on the phone not taking calls, seems to be a few issues at the moment...I've got voicemail switched off for out of reach now which means I get a text with details about any calls that the phone doesn't take which should help.
GPS is working fine, the error message is just badly written as it should say 'waiting for GPS' for a while rather than saying not available. I do like the film style zoom in on your current location, serves no useful purpose but does look cool

I assume your issues are E65 specific, I had the N93 which I used for a good amount of time (pretty much the same phone at the core) and worked well.

it's th 1st Nokia to give me a migraine (Actually it does) lol
I haven't a clue but I know enuff is enuff with this model
Posted by johnmcl7
The N93 was the first usable S60 device for me, the previous ones I'd used lasted a couple of months before I got sick of them and normally went back to an Ericsson. I have heard quite a few comments about E65 unreliability but it's difficult gauge actual reliability as you're going to hear more about faulty handsets without knowing the total number in use.

@johnmcl7
Even if it's only 02 i would still debrand but then i just believe it is better that way as the branding changes aren't always visible, what version software does it have? as 7.40 gave A-GPS which improved the lock times by all accounts. Personally i still use a external GPS Receiver as use Tom Tom and find it is much better than any inbuilt Receiver so far put i any device.
Also i would say the PDAir Horizontal case would fit your needs best.

Definitely agree with you on Tomtom, Sat nav up until now has been Tomtom5 with a BT GPS receiver and planning on getting Tomtom6for the E90 as there's no comparison between the BT receiver and internal one - the BT one gets a lock in around 40 seconds and holds it regardless of buildings or anything else. However it would be handy to have the internal GPS capacity for checking a map if I don't have the external with me so I'm relieved it is working...just takes its time!

I will have disagree on that E65 and N93 are the same, N93 internaly has the very same chipset as E90, the TI OMAP2420 332MHz chip, whereas the E65 has the older TI OMAP1710 235MHz chip but i think both E65 and N93 have the same RAM chip. The N93 would have been close to perfect if it had the 128mb ram chip, Demand Paging, and Os9.2 FP1.
Posted by Dogmann
@GUCCI.011
Actually IMHO just Demand paging and HSDPA would of satisfied my needs although i have now lost hope of Nokia releasing a real next gen in that format as really thought the N93i was a step backwards especially with that Razr style Keypad as the original N93 has one of the best and almost tactile keypads i have used, i could even type in Laptop mode fast.
I have to say no true N93 replacement the destruction of the E61 format for the E71 and Nokia are not making me a happy boy that's for sure. Thankfully the E90 will see me through for quite a while as my next devcie will definitely have an OMAP 3 Series chip or similar, other wise there really is no point upgrading for me. I'm really not sure if i want to go back to a touchscreen devcie again though even if i can appreciate that they have made huge improvement's in recent times and continue to.
But never say never who knows a 32gb 3G/HSDPA/HSUPA iPhone may just change my mind on that or Nokia's Touch UI or even an SE top spec UIQ device, although SE need to do much more than just announce a new device to win me back.

Waiting on the e66. Should only be another 6 weeks til launch. I would go for an e51, as it ticks most boxes.
Posted by BobaFett
e51 is great, but too small screen imo, of course matter of atste, but at lesat e60 screen size should have been nice imo.
next to it great battery ( as ususally at e series ) and nice apps

@mweb6161
As you know still one of my favourite all time devices even though it is now old and doesn't have the newest processors or HSDPA it is a great devcie with outstanding battery life and a great screen. Be interesting to see what you make of it?
Although i must admit to being disappointed that the E71 hasn't kept the exact same format as that spec in the E61 would of had me drooling for sure.

e90 will keep its high price imo, cos its the only communicator atm with s60 os
Posted by Dogmann
@Boba,
Well the E90 with an 8GB Micro SDHC card still works out less than a W960 and look at the difference in spec's in those two devcies, unless of course a Touchscreen and Music are all that count.
I must admit Boba that you can find E90's quite easily for £300 or less although the W960's price seems to have plummeted in usual SE/UIQ style as can be found for £230 or less which is a nearly 50% off in such a short time for a Flagship devcie is just unbelievable IMO.
