Hi ,as now a days nokia batteries are exploding ,first 5c , then 4c and slowly every type will explode, so ...is it safe to buy any of these mobiles, if the battery get changed.and by this effect is there will be any decrease in its prices . .
Posted by BobaFett
however this thread is dedicated mainly for the nokia e series fones, all i can say, i never heasred that any batt exploded in an e series fone...
well, those exploding batts are true, but its really rare and has nothing to do with any spesific brand. we have some threads about it

I heard that symbian mobiles more prone to crashing .is it true.have a danger of viruses .
Posted by BobaFett
never had any virus, to be honest, i dont really know if there are nay... according the crash, my one ( have e60 ) sometimes freeze, but thats all. at the start ( especially at new fones, with the first fw ) there are or could be some bugs, but later upgrades fix the problem. imo every e series user just can echo my statement: e series are very satble and well made fones, according the os

@raj2005
There was a virus on an earlier version of Symbian S60 but even this involved the users actively accepting and opening it. Currently to my knowledge there are no viruses on S60 3rd Edition due to the increased security that Symbian have implemented into the OS.
As to Symbian smart phones being more prone to crashing this IMO has more to do with the users understanding of the limitations of the device he is using and just how many apps the users has installed and is trying to use at the same time. If you understand the limitations of the device you are using and use a Task Manger to maintain your devices performance you really should face very little problems IMO.
I have owned and used a Nokia N73, N93, N95 and my current device of choice a E61 and never suffer freezes or crashes.

next to it, there is the f-secure solution, u can download it from nokia webpage, its an antivirus app
Posted by Dogmann
@Boba and all,
Installing and running any anti virus app on any Symbian smart phone is nothing more than a complete waste of money and your devices valuable resources. this is not just MO but one held by many others all over the many Symbian Forums. Unless some one just accepts and opens everything that is sent to their device or is using only cracked apps and warez from untrustworthy sites there really is no risk, and even them all the virus would be able to do is effect the users personal data it could not infect the OS due to the improved security that even developers can't access whilst creating apps.

Still no rumour of a new e series fone?
Posted by Dogmann
Hi Boba,
The only new E series device leaked so far is the E51 which is a non qwerty smart phone although does have a mini usb port and very few other details as yet. I'm still awaiting the the true E61 successor and this is what i am eagerly awaiting news of.

matter of taste...

do u think its worth to swap e60 for e61? i am afraid, that i ll miss the brill screen, even i ll have a bigger one and same features...
Posted by mob453
Boba, it's not the screen you should worry about. Do you do qwerty?
Posted by BobaFett
imo i could get used to the different keypad, but trust me, once u had that e60 screen, u ll be very critical with a less sharp cren...
anyway, the e61i joypad and keypad fits more my taste at usage to be honest
Posted by Dogmann
@Boba
I can't comment on the E60 screen as have never seen one but as you know i am still even now very impressed with the E61 even the joystick that so many seem not to like. IMO it really does have the best qwerty on any device i have used and the screen is both large, sharp crisp and clear for anything it does including watching Video. Using the E61 with Tom Tom is as good as having a stand alone device IMO as the volume is just so loud you cam even still have Music on although not at full volume. I am just glad i didn't rush to sell it when i had the N95 and E90 as i would of had to of replaced it. It really is one of if not my all time favourite device and I've had more than a few to compare it to.

how is the joystick? e60 one is brill, even it has a play ( it had alwasy ) but still very good. did u have chance to compare e61 and e61i?
Posted by Dogmann
@Boba
No i haven't played with an E61i other than a dummy unit and i prefer the joystick as i find control far easier. The E90 had the D pad and i definitely prefer the joystick but what i prefer and like might not be what anyone else does.

what can u tell me about battery standby? e60 offers me very long one, lets say 4 to 5 h continualy wifi, bit less if i download. at average usage lets say 3 days, but i charge it every night, i use if more then often during the day
Posted by Dogmann
Hi Boba,
Well I'm sure you know it has a 1500aMh Li-Polymer battery and i certainly don't need to charge it daily even if i use it with Tom Tom for a couple of journeys. But i have never used it for a couple of hours straight over WiFi although it is well known that the E61 has one of the best battery life's of virtually any smart phone.

for me seems the joy not that stable as in e60 ( it has a bit smaller, but tronger one ) i alwasy had the thought, i could break e61 joy, its so slim
Posted by bickit
Im back! Been studying....The E60 is a fantastic phone but that joystick tends to fade away and become a painful thing to use when scrollin sideways.....We wouldnt hav minded a 2.4 inch screen but wow that screen was fantastic! Even the phones build quality was excellent. Why is there no i version or successor? Is it not popular?
Posted by BobaFett
good question, i asked myself too, why no block fone from nokia... next to it, why they stopped the put that brill sreen in the fones... since e90 no other deserved it?

Hi Boba,
Well the first and easiest thing i can suggest to do is go to Settings then Phone then General then Phone Language and see what is selected and what your options are. Depending on the options change to English and try the keyboard, if that doesn't work you may need to reflash to another firmware.

I had an OLD Nokia E-50 model fone for a WEEK, sold it after I've experienced the fone froze
P990i Posted by BobaFett
no, language settings didnt helped, i ll write over the product code, guess thats solve the bug
Posted by Dogmann
Hi all,
Just thought i would mention i have now broken my cold turkey from device buying after just 4 months, but as the E90 is now available with warranty unlike my first one which was the only reason i sold it.
I have just got one from 02 for £129.99 on a £35pm 12 month contract of course once it arrives it will be flashed to Generic and the latest Firmware. This time i will get proper Nokia 2.5-3.5m converter and if it is good enough will sell my 80GB iPod. There really is no other device available now or coming soon that grabs my attention as much as this device does, especially as i can already get a 8GB Sandisk card for £54.88 delivered which is plenty of storage for my Music and TV shows or Films.

@jn i had e50, great fone, freezed rarely, my problem was the joy, what gave up its soull after 3 weeks of usage or maybe bit longer...
Posted by BobaFett
is there a way, to connect e60, e61 for exmaple to the tv like at n95? i know, that n95 and n93 has got a built in app for this action, but is there any third party maybe?
Posted by mob453
e65 and e61i firmware upgrade to 2.0633.65.01 now available by nokia software update.
Posted by BobaFett
how to copy / paste on e61? just couldnt find it
Posted by Miss UK
better bookmark this seeing ive a E65 in my pocession now too
Posted by Dogmann
Hi Boba,
To achieve what you want
For copy you hold arrow-up-button then move cursor to highlight, then press/hold "ctrl" and press "c" to copy (to paste hold ctrl and press "v" - like on PC without mouse...)...very handy, works between apps (i.e. Highlight bookmark/link in browser and copy into email/sms etc..
Credit to MaggFlodd who kindly pointed out there is indeed no pencil key on the E61. don't know what i was thinking of.
Also 02 ruined my planed return to the E90, so have now got a N95 8GB with a SU-8W on it's way so not really meant to be in this section now i am i?

Posted by Miss UK
Boba, it came on yesterday I thought the 19th was today lol D'oh!
btw the phones nice the batterys better by longterm,
but the music player doesn't sound as good as my N80 maybe cos it's new it needs time to adjust the speaker
