the e60 had two firmware upgrades:
version 1 was the original. 1.610.02.15
version 2 the next, and flawed for sip and voip. 2.618.06.05
version 3 the final upgrade. 3.0633.09.04
it shared the firmware versions with the e61.
http://www.nokia.com/A4305060 < type your product code on your imei sticker in the box on the link, and it'll tell you if a software updat eis available.

ah, thanks for the link, boba. by advanced standby you mean longer standby time, yeah? got a bit confused there, was thinking that's some sort of application for the battery ;-p. nice reading, though. i'm a proper fan of the e-series now, best thing that ever came out of nokia.
some questions, after i read the brochure. what is this 'nokia office tools' thing? i've never noticed any on my set? and i always thought my e65 had egsm (EDGE), i remeber seeing some brochures that states it does, and there are some settings on my phone for it?? never been able to find any settings for my service provider though, it needs some kind of number to dial-up or something.
http://asia.nokia.com/A4346195#1
it says on the nokia site it does, for both APAC and europe. has anyone ever used EDGE on their e65's?

I've used edge on my e65 when roaming on orange uk. You get an E under the signal reception indicator.
Posted by bodum
ah??!! then here lies the confusion? i remember reading somewhere that egsm = EDGE, so therefore i assume that the e65 has EDGE. however, i've never noticed that nokia ever promoting e65 as an EDGE capable phone.
moreover, i've researched again and it says that egsm is 'extended gsm', which isn't what EDGE is? there's even a thread here that says egsm isn't EDGE?
i've also seen some settings for my phone for EDGE, so what makes? can anyone clarify this egsm and EDGE thing for once?
Posted by bondizi
EDGE = Enhanced Data rates for GSM Evolution, and is also known as Enhanced GPRS, or EGPRS. Refers to network bandwidth.
EGSM = Extended GSM band, i.e. 900MHz etc. Refers to the network band. Nothing to do with GPRS or EGPRS.
Make sense?

i do know that, mate. but the confusion isn't about definition, the confusion is about whether the e65 has EDGE or not? an E below the signal bar? 'high speed GSM' in the connection settings menu? sounds like a pretty good indication of EDGE to me. point is why is it never mentioned in the specifications list anywhere?
Posted by bondizi
if you get an 'E' below the signal bar, that means you're connected on EDGE.
and it does mention it in the phone specs on nokia.com:
http://europe.nokia.com/A4344228
if you open the 'Data transfer' listing, it says:
"EGPRS multi-slot class 32 for 5 + 3 (receive + transmit) timeslots (up to 6 timeslots total for maximum download speeds of up to 296 kbps)"
Posted by chili
Hi guys, what's the maximum mms size (in kilobytes) of a Nokia E50? Thanks!
Posted by BobaFett
it depends on your operator, not on the fone itslef, mms size in average is 300 kb afaik
Posted by chili
Hi boba, yes i know that operators set an mms size limit, but it's also true that phone manufacturers often (if not always) set such a limit too within the phone itself. For example in my K610 it's 300kb, and in the old K700 it's 100kb as i remember... See my phone company allows >300kb mms sizes and so if i'll get an E50 i wanna know if i'll be able to take the most advantage of the size allowed
Posted by BobaFett
then imo 300 kb is the limit
Posted by bodum
ah, thanks a bunch for clearing that up, bondizi. looks like i was looking in the wrong places all this time. but still, how come nokia never emphasized on the presence of EDGE in the e65...anyone? i would think that EDGE is quite a good addition to the phone, with some regions not yet supporting 3G.
only thing left to do now is to try get my operator to give out some settings. thing is, they do have an EDGE network but for some reason, they don't implement it. weird.
Posted by BobaFett
edge is offered in almost every nokia symbians, maybe its a standard in all symbian models

Posted by bodum
now i'm seriously thinking nokia forgot they released the e65. i feel left behind.
Posted by GUCCI.011
Lol i ACTUALY forgot the E65 exsisted
Posted by bodum
well, it's basically a stable phone with some minor issues. however, branded versions like my '3' e65 has tons of very annoying issues that i hope would get fixed with a firmware upgrade. you can see more of those problems on my e65 on '3' thread.
thing is, '3' provided an unlock code for free but still the firmware and certain hardware glitches make it a pain to use with other sim cards. so why bother with the unlocking in the first place.
Posted by Dogmann
@bodum
Can you get change the product code and flash it with unbranded firmware as i am sure that would resolve the issues you are having. Unfortunately it is well known that 3 really mess their devices up.
On a side note i am back to just using my E61 and absolutely loving it just waiting for it's true successor to come out. This is easily the best all round smart phone i have owned and used. Just today compared it to a Z8 for Video playback and the E61 owned it big time the Z8 wasn't even close and that's meant t be a Multimedia device what a piece of garbage it is.

Lol, @ dogmann, Motorolas never fail to dissapoint,no matter how good they say a phone is i always expect something thats just below satisfactory
Posted by bickit
Would the E61 have the same changes? I think the most forgotten E-series is the E-70.....
Posted by bodum
i would, but then the cost of losing my warranty is a bit unjustified? i only got it on '3' cos' they have the black one. plus i don't really want to switch to generic as yet as i do sometimes use '3' services when i'm in australia. maybe i'd get a generic e65 for my other sim, or even the e61, which is looking more tempting by the moment.
Posted by BobaFett
i really started to make thoughts to get an e70, when i can get it for a good price, but i still have my doubts if i would love or hate the folding keypad...
Posted by mob453
Has a firmware update for e61i or e65 been released yet?
Posted by BobaFett
u can check it here

The E65 has me intrigued; Vodafone dot co dot nz has it on special for NZ$649 (down from NZ$999 RRP). I think that makes it the cheapest Wifi compatible phone officially available in NZ and stylie too, thus I've been looking at it closely as I expect the W960 price (when released) to stay at NZ$900+ for a long time.
I checked out a demo (fake) E65 in a shop and have to say I found the D-pad, surrounding buttons and keypad hideous! I have large fingers and use my thumbnail for key presses. What do you current users think of the buttons and of the UI?
ps: I'm an S60 virgin
Posted by bodum
it's a fairly good phone, if you're prepared to put up with some 'specific' issues which nokia has so far never resolved with a firmware update.
having used the phone for some time, i find the d-pad and keypad to be average at most. i don't have large fingers, but that doesn't stop me from double pressing most buttons at times. i'd say the error rate at presses to be around 20%.
Posted by BobaFett
i hope nokia wont do the mistake again with that weird e65 keypad, very very uncomfy, as stated above... sadly... me ssems 6110 navi keypad will be better
Posted by Dogmann
Hi all,
Well now being well into my giving up new devices and back with my trusty and beloved E61 i really can't praise it enough. It's just so dam good it's frightening the keyboard is the best i have used and even prefer it to the larger one found on the E90. It always has well over 19mb Ram after using Handy Taskman to clear up running apps, and the battery is just the best and even survives if i forget an over night charge and the screen really is just so good. Until it's true successor comes hopefully early next year there really is no device i am interested in no not even an E90. I also have to say it really is the best device for running Tom Tom as the large screen is a big bonus. I really hope the 29th announcement includes the new E61 announcement what ever hey decide to call it.

is it possible to make with e61i video calls, like with 6233?
Posted by raj2005
Hello friends ,i heard that symbian mobiles are more prone to crashing ...is it true ...
Posted by mustafabay
By now is the E50i, the one with the camera, is it cheaper than the 6120 classic? I'm hoping to buy something this year and I'm being open about my options not just SE. But I want something loud which is why I'm also considering a 6233 despite s40 being inferior to SE because of the lack of multi tasking.
Scrap that, just answer is the E50 cheaper than the 6120 or is it more because its business oriented?
Posted by BobaFett
well, such as every fone, even the non symboans ones, they crash or get slow sometimes, but i have very good experiences with all the e and n series fones i used in the last 2 years. have to admit, that next to a faulty joy i had in e50 i never ever had any problems with them.
Posted by mob453
As boba said, e50 joystick can become faulty.

but i really dont get, how comes that e60 has got a better joy, even its an older model... same to e61...

Hi all, my last Nokia was a 7250i. Its infrared was very disappointing. Ate up battery really fast, didn't have an option to be turned on indefinitely (only 10 mins or so), and was very weak. Question, are the E-series IR (esp. E50) any better? With my K700, I use IR instead of BT or cable to connect to MyPhoneExplorer. It hardly consumes any battery, much better when compared to BT. Also, it saves the phone's port socket from wear and tear (unlike cable). I hope the new Nokias' IR have likewise improved?
Posted by BobaFett
e50 is agreat device. fantastic batt life, very good fw, nice screen ( however the fonts are a bit small when u type a message ), very good design, metal covers ( i had problems with the joy, but thats just at me maybe ). the os is superb, u have edge and many many usefzl apps for it.
Posted by BobaFett
as we know, in the html browser there is no option to choose and image and download, in the "services" there is. but every single time i wanna download an image, it discinnects ( so i use opera mini, where it works fine ). did any of u recognized it too?
