My friends who own E61(i) mainly complain about the new Nokia Internet browser. On my E50, after half an hour browsing & with 3 pages open, the free mem is shown as 1.6MB!

I think Nok 6290 is a gud option. It runs Symb 9.2 on a speedy 369Mhz cpu n with oodles of RAM. Stereo loudspeakers comes as a bonus!

Well, my E61i arrived today.... happy chappy!
I couldn't believe how thin and light the phone was - as well as the impressive screen - very sharp graphics etc.

I had been using a Treo 750v for a few weeks, and there's just no comparison. Will be recommending the E61i as an remote email tool at my workplace now for sure and certain!!

Now - back to it.......

Posted by maggflodd
@paddy...good times! i love my e61 - since I got it, I rejected n91, treo 750v (though I'm starting to like it a bit more), p990i... Great phone!!! Welcome to the 61-ers! Did the isp-setup work o.k.?

@Paddy Fowler,

Welcome to the wonderful world of the E series, i must confess like you i also have found my E61 to be really thin and light but also with incredible build quality and also really don't get all these comments of it being so big to me it is a perfect size for what it does and the screen is just amazeing hope enjoy it.

Thanks Guys!

Yep, happy to be now living in the E61'ers world
Magg - yep, the wizard set everything up for me - of course this was after i chose to ignore the tutorial (with pure excitement) the first time, then i couldn't browse the web and was thinking of phoning vodafone.

Remembered your wise words then - and went back in and found the "Settings Wizard" which had me good to go in jig time.

Really am impressed with the overall quality of the phone - appears very rugged even though it's so thin and frail looking!

Anyone use it with Good Messaging Installed on it?

Posted by maggflodd
Talk about "rugged", Paddy... I left mine on the roof of my car a couple of months ago (I know, cringe...): when I breaked to stick my parking ticket in the machine, the phone overtook my car all I had to do was reinsert the memory-card! No other probs! (ok, the krusell case helped, but still!! It's one tuff phone!)

Hi Paddy,

There are a couple of really good free messaging apps the first i would recommend is Fring which gives you Skype, Google, MSN both IM and VOIP and they are adding services and improving the app constantly this can be found @www.fring.com/.

Also just released is Windows Live Messenger for some S60 devices and it works on my E61 so should work on the E61i this brings Windows Live desktop experience to your device and also gives you MSN.com/Hotmail e-mail synced with your device the link for this is

http://dshandberg.net/blog/20[....]ve-suite-for-your-nokia-phone/

I would also recommend looking at a good Task Manager to aid the smooth running of your device my personal favourite is Handy Taskman. Depending on what you want to do there are a wealth of both free and paid for apps many of these come direct from Nokia and should enable you to achieve most of the things you want to do. If you have any problems finding anything just ask and some one should have an answer for you.

Sorry for my absense.....I have a few questions to ask. Is there any difference with the screen between E61 and E61i? Nokias website doesnt specify. Secondly, how good is the build quality of the E61? Does it get scratches, screen scratches, dirt easily? Third, is the E61 more stable when multitasking than the E65? Lastly, i heard a beautiful ringtone called rondo capricio on a nokia 2600 that i like. Is there anyway to get it? I'd like my next E61 to have it.

Posted by Dogmann
Hi bickit

Nice to see you back, personally i think the E61 has exceptional build quality and mine is still mint. I think the E61i screen is meant to be even better than the E61 but can't quite imagine how as the E61 is excellent IMO.
Can't say anything about the E65 as never seen one in the flesh but either E61 or E61i you can't really go wrong by IMO as both are excellent devices.

As for Multi tasking well that really depends on how hard you are going to push it you start with apaprox 24mb ram and usually have well over 20mb most of the time after closing apps. I'm sure you can run out but if you use a Task Manager and a bit of work it really shouldn't throw up any problems IMO.

No idea what you are talking about with the ring tone so can't help you there.

imo e61i keypad is way more confy and the joypad seems for me better too, then the e61 joy. also a plus for e61 is is the cover

Posted by bickit
Interesting! I cant wait to get my hands on it! And what are the negatives of having one?

Posted by Dicky Snapples
im using an E70 at the moment. did have a E61 for a few weeks(which i loved) but prefer the E70.

just waiting for the E90 now,which i should have in a day or two

Posted by BobaFett
e70 is amazing, just dont like that foldeable solution. love that screen, very happy with my e60, have to admit, very hard to say good bye for it, cos no other fones offer that brilliant screen like e60 or e70

Posted by Dogmann
Hi Boba,,

i think nothing can match the internal screen of the E90 and the outside screen isn't bad either.
Just have to wait for Mr postman to arrive tomorrow which unfortunately here isn't till about 11:30am although maybe it will come Special delivery and earlier.

Lucky people! An E90 is a majestic thing! Played with a dummy and i loved the keyboard. A fine successor to the 9500 and and excellent flagship! It seems like nokia has competing departments. Nokia multimedia has the N95, nokia enterprise has the E90, and nokia mobile phones has the 6290 as its flagship solutions. I think the E90 is the best! It looks gorgeous in that brownish black colour....

Posted by Dogmann
@bickit

I agree currently that is the way devices are split E series really is Buisness focused but still handles Multimedia well and has the ultimate build quality of all Nokia's especially flagship products. The N series are the ultimate Multimedia devices that are also capable of handling business apps well.

I do believe next Year with the release of the OMAP series 3 chip and all it will offer this will actually change so that one device will do both equally with the ultimate quality, well at least that's my hope. Which will mean the end for my two device strategy currently used.

after reading your thoughts, i feel compelled to say. blurring the lines there aren't we, marc?

Posted by Dogmann
@bodum

Why? that is my current view and seems like a view supported by others around the Web also. May be not the hopes i have for next year but definitely the split between N and E series would be interested to hear your opinion on this is you have one.

Out of sheer curiousity, does the E90 record video at 30fps? And does it, like the N95, use dual processors?

Posted by Dogmann
@bickit

Yes it does and yes it uses the same chip configuration, just with an extra 64mb Ram.

How interesting! So minus the camera, the E90 should be more powerful than the N95?

Posted by Dogmann
Hi bickit,

Well not more powerful but able to better multitask and may be faster due to being able to allow apps to remain running in the background with out running out of Ram. So far from what i have seen the reports for the non CZ branded 3.2 camera are very good described as good as if not better than the K800. Now if Voda will just deliver it so i can debrand it that would help, actually i have to re format and re load my Sony XP laptop first to be able to use NSS. But not quite up it yet will have to try later.

imo e90 cam is far better then n95. fortunately its not a cz one anymore ( imo nokia cz cams are very poor and low quality )

@bickit

I will do an extensive E90 review and will also compare it to the N95 as all the E90 pictures will be taken with the N95.

That baby is beautiful.The only thing between me and the E90 is the pricetag.Even on a two year contract with MTN its R309.00 a month with a R5999.00 pay in.Insane.Havent checked out the other providers but I doubt they will be much different

I cant hardly wait to read that review.....The E90s camera has to be better than an N80s, and isnt it the same module in the fashion flip 7390?

@ marc

i'm not a user of the N series, but as far as i can see, the only thing that sets N and E series apart is the product positioning, in terms of purely marketing terms. this means design, which the N series look 'funkier' while the E series being staid and stoic looking in general.

hardware wise, the N series has supposedly better cameras (which nokia would like us to believe, with the CZ lenses used and removal of AF and other dedicated camera functions in E series). in terms of internal hardware, i can't comment on the differences in processors used and so forth as i am quite new at this. however, a glance of the specs would show not much difference between N and E series.

for software, of course there are minor differences which can be overcome by simply downloading the correct software. N users can also have access to blackberry, and so forth. about the media players used, would love your thoughts on this, does the N series have a 'better' player in comparison (much like does walkman player in w series are better than k series)? however, the N series does have the advantage in that it uses s60/3rd edition feature pack 2 and so forth. using my e65 as an example, i only have s60/3rd edition with no feature packs and the inability to upgrade.

so to affirm your point, there is very marginal differences between the 2 series, a blurring of the lines as i mentioned. would love to hear your observations regarding the other supposed differences between the 2 series, however marginal they may seem.

e series is strictly for biz, on i do prefer it since a gave a try for e50, over n series. simple design for heavy usage, meaning the big and beautiful screens and the big and comfy keypads

This message was posted from a E60-1

Posted by bodum
but boba, isn't that in relative terms, as in user opinion only? the screen specs doesn't differ much in both series, and also, some people might find the keypads in N series more comfortable to use as opposed to the traditional buttons in E series?

Posted by mob453
i own both e60 and e65. my first and last n series was the n70, which was swiftly given to my sister. the e series seem reliable, usable, not as steal my phone as the n series. plus you can easily use the buttons.

Posted by Dogmann
@mob543

The N series S60 V2 and really can't be fairly compared to or with S60 V3,

@ Boba

I really can't agree as in the E61 while it may not be as good as a N95 it still does more than adequate job of both Music and Video IMO.

@bodum

The E Series do have better plug ins and options for the standard screen plus a few other apps.

Once Voda deliver my E90 well rather Parceline i will be able to tell further the differences.

On a side note i am seriously PPPP OFF with Sony as the Laptops no longer come with recovery Disks so you have to burn your own when you first get the Laptop. Obviously that was easy but now on restore it keeps ejecting the DVD after each flaming file so i have re load at click OK 3hrs 15 Min's so far not happy.

Edited to say was my problem as it didn't say to insert disk2 so when i did it the second time it worked but still took a lot longer than i think it should. At least the Laptop is now more like it should be although i have not added any programs as intend to only using it for Phone flashing and debranding.

Hi all,

Now i am really not happy with VodaFone Monday they told me to phone Tuesday which i did all went well so added a new contract and phone to my account. Waited all day for delivery yesterday to now be told they added the new account but don't have any E90's in stock for delivery expect them in the middle of August. So obviously one contract cancelled and the hunt is on again for a E90 seriously not happy now though. Having just spoken to 02 they also don't expect stock till mid August.

similar experience here.
my dad phoned vodafone 3 days ago. and they had them in stock but needed to pass it to a different department(as it is a high usage business phone) they said they would get back to him within 6 hours. they only just called back 10 mins ago,and said they dont have any E90s and have no idea when they will get any!

Posted by bodum
boba, what is this advanced battery standby thing?

Posted by BobaFett
the battery lsatndy time if fantastic, i used e50, now e60, but also tested e61, last really long...

read more here:

http://www.nokiaforbusiness.c[....]esBrochure.pdf?doc=nfb_emea_en

( page 5 , "nokia eseries", there is it mentioned aswell )

Posted by bickit
Sorry guys about the E90.....Its arrived down here but i emailed all the nokia shops and they said only a dozen came as they were limited quantity as they had difficulties sourcing them from singapore and guess what? They were special order! Half went to a major operator 4 its top managers and the rest were special order 4 customers. All went within 2 days at a hefty price of £899. They were all black bodied....

Posted by BobaFett
singapore? do they have warranty in africa?

well, and next to it 899 gbp, thats insane...

Posted by Dogmann
Hi Dicky,

Seriously not happy with Voda and really can not stand being lied to by anyone especially not a large company i am giving my money to. What makes me more angry is no one rings you to tell you there is a problem. Cancelled the contract immediately as there is no way i will wait 2 weeks for a device i was told would be with me next day.

Now back on the Hunt on E-Bay but it doesn't look like X187 hasn't any either obviously i am not desperate for it so will continue to read the reports of how this device is performing. But as we are now getting closer to the alleged 24th August announcement i may wait and see what Nokia are announcing, although i think it will just be N81/N82 but who knows.

@ bobbafett, To be precise, yes and no. The phone does have a warranty, but if it cant be fixed and they dont have the handsets here, they order as they give u a courtesy phone to use in the meantime. I thnk its a N70. Anyway until november it wont be properly available....And the price tag is due to exclusivity and newness. A very strange system of marketing down here....

Posted by BobaFett
imo u should wait til the price drops... but i am afraid under a certain limit e90 wont fall for a long time

This message was posted from a E60-1

Posted by mob453
Okay. Let's look at something else. The e60 was production ready in 2005. It would have been the first s60 v3 available. But they developed two other handsets, made the e series, and let the 3250 be the first third edition the public could play with. The n70 and e60 were both designed to be released in 2005.

Posted by Dicky Snapples
well,my dad spoke to Vodafone again this evening. apparently they are trying to source an E90,and will call back tomorrow to say if they can get one.
but i have a feeling he'll be waiting a couple of weeks like many other p*ssed off Voda customers!

Posted by Dogmann
@Dicky

Let's put it this way i have never been a fan of VodaFone ever and only have my current contract as it was how i got my N93 cheaper then with out contract although the handset was Sim Free Unbranded as was not direct from Voda. The excellent service i received on Monday and Tuesday was ruined by the failure of the phone to arrive and no contact from Voda that there was a problem. After today's events once this contract ends i am done with Voda so in December that's it.
