allegedly the successor to the universal
resolution of the display: 640x480 pixels (VGA)
a 3G Pocket PC phone, i.e. it supports GSM / GPRS / EDGE / UMTS, unknown yet whether it supports HSDPA
Wi-Fi 802.11b and 802.11g
Bluetooth
etc etc

Yeh came across that a while ago, looks pretty interested can't say i don't like it.
more details will make me certain if i really do!
Posted by masseur
spec wise it seems very similar to the Universal so I am hoping when we do get more info that there is something really new about it, besides the design.
I doubt I will buy another WM5 device now anyway... I'll just wait for WM6

I do much more data on my devices than calling so I'll definitly be taking a close look at this when I can get my hands on one. battery is pretty good at 21mAh too and a huge 5" screen!

Athena is NOT successor to Universal...
Its d upcomin HTC Omni...
U may Google for its pics nd specs...
Athena is almost in d class of a UMPC, though....
Posted by ali_baba
And instead of WM5 i'd like to see WM6 (CrossBow) !!
Posted by masseur
I do agree. this is getting close enough to UMPC to make it worth considering both options but I'm not sure how close WM6 is to be introduced in new products. I have heard that HTC are releasing WM5 AKU3 for TyTN in the next few weeks
Posted by ambyzown
I'd rather put my notebook pc to my ears to make calls, as the size difference isn't so evident

@all
This is not a mass sellin product... it costs double dat of norm laptop.
So jus see dis as d company's testimony, of its ability to built technically competent devices. In short, HTC is jus tryin to show off wat dey r capable of!
U shal Google for ' HTC 2007 roadmap ' to see som upcomin HTC PPC's & smartfons. They'r gonna release a smartfon wit slide out QWERTY keyboard & successors for both Universal nd Hermes!!

355g?? That's awful heavy to try and keep in a pocket(assuming it fits in any pocket)!? Nice other specs tho(apart from WM2005)......

only 65k screen?
Posted by masseur
thats a WM5 (and earlier WM) standard, not sure if they have removed that restriction in WM6

for those that speak russian, here is another review but more interestingly there are some comparison pics which might make some people take a second look.... perhaps...

Here's a good detailed Picture Review

excellent pics. thanks!
I am so gonna get one of these and I already have 3 different people at t-mobile who say they're going to call me as soon as its orderable
I didn't realise the keyboard detached but wouldn't it be nice if it was bluetooth and could be used separate from the main device... I wonder if HTC thought of that!
Posted by masseur
t-mobile have these in stock from today and I was quoted £220 on a flext-25 plan, which seems reasonable
so, I think I'll give this (and others) a good checkout at cebit at the w/e

Hi Masseur,
I do believe the detachable keyboard connects via Bluetooth.

a fairly detailed review here
gone off this one myself, having seen it and handled it at cebit.
like the universal before it, just a bit too big for me as I don't use a briefcase and don't fancy that in my jacket pocket
still a great device though with pretty much everything you need
