SDRAM with normal?

Are they compatible?

I'm trying to add 1GB of RAM to my computer, but every time I put it in and turn the computer back on, the monitor won't turn on and also the fan runs at what seems full speed without the usual slow down afterwards when the screen turns on.

I have four RAM slots, two of which blue, the other two black, don't know if this means something?

I have two 512MB RAM sticks in, both 400MHz PC3200 DDR.

My new RAM that I'm trying to add is 1GB 400MHz PC3200 DDR SDRAM, I don't know if the others are SD, but this is what the new RAM says it is.

Any help? Really important...

never mix different mem types.

What I can read from the sticks is...

1. 512MB 400MHz DDR

2. 512MB 400MHz DDR

3. 1GB 400MHz DDR SD

And these won't go together...?

if you pc does not start properly, then no.

How come the ram won't start on its own either...?

could be a bad stick of ram might need to send it back. also check you r mother board manual it sounds from the colour scheme its dual channel and if it is ram has to go in a certain place and order for it to work properly

The two similar modules (512mb) needs to be inserted in alternate slots to be able to work in dual channel mode.. Try doing that without adding the 1gb stick and check if the system starts up..

Well the 512MB's both work fine with each other, whatever way they are put in... but the 1GB one seems to be the black duckling...

So if I put a 512 in #1 and a 512 in #3, and then the 1gb in #2... it might work?

Damn I'm really desperate here, just bought it off Ebay...
Was hoping to play Rainbow Six Vegas with a bit more umpf then usual when I get it for Christmas.

if the 1gb on its own is not letting the comp boot then i think its a duff stick, hope you got it off a decent ebay seller as it sounds like it needs returning.

i very much doubt you have 4 mem stick slots...

fatreg

^ Why?

I do because I've used them all in the past, though before this new stick came only three and now I would all four if it all worked ok.

I'll try a few more things and then if it's still a negative, I'll see what I can do with the seller, it says 40 days so...

I even paid £7.50 for a before Christmas post lol.

You might need to try some Memory test.
Itll help u to determine if the RAM is faulty..

and see the voltage for your memory in your bios settings. It would be nice to know the manufacturer of the RAM also..
EDIT:also the timings if its printed on it..

Well the seller is also helping me determine whether the RAM is faulty of I have a compatibility issue, so that's good.

On the small label stuck on the RAM stick it says...

PC3200 DDR SDRAM
128Mx72 1GB
1GBRGSRZSXBA

(Along with a barcode and 'Warranty Void If Removed')

On its Ebay listing it says its manufacturer is 'Celetronix'...

as long as they are the same type, speed, connector, and plating, it's fine if they are different sizes, but of course it will not be optimized.

But you have to make sure that the larger ram is in the FIRST slot.

Well I have tried it on its own in all positions and the fan just goes very fast without the monitor turning on.

With trying it with the other sticks in all positions, I get the same outcome as above.

Without the new stick, the computer works fine with 1.25GB RAM.

So faulty or compatibility...

try just the new stick mate

As said I have, nothing...

Which motherboard u have?

Well thanks for the help...

The seller says that I need a non-ECC registered version, I assume this is right, it would explain why this one doesn't work since it is ECC registered. It says 40 days return and refund no questions asked so I guess I'll just do that and buy another.
