BootMan: autostart utility for UIQ3

BootMan, an autostart utility for UIQ3 has been released. The program lets you select applications from a list for starting them automatically every time you turn the phone on. It is used to quickly bring the phone into a state you like.

While using BootMan, be aware that every program you start up consumes memory. Naturally, such autostart utility will become more useful when the RAM starvation of UIQ3 phones comes to an end.

BootMan is downloadable from My-Symbian and CellPhoneSoft. The unregistered version is fully functional and does not expire. Thus, registration is entirely voluntary.

Enjoy!

Current version is 2.00.

As you point out this goes against the current situation with the P990i at the moment though. I don't see the use it has in reality unless the memory situation is sorted. Of coruse that's not your fault.

Looks neat!
I happened to notice the transparent swiss mgr icon, is a new version coming soon, perhaps?

While autostarting numerous programs is obviously not a clever thing to do in the current situation, some users will indeed want to start one or two essential apps that do not provide an autostart feature themselves.

Yes, a new Swiss Pro version is coming early January with highly configurable icon, full flip closed functionality, file sending, etc..

Ooh, Shiney! Can't wait

One more important note about the memory issues. BootMan itself does not permanently consume memory. Its autostarter component exits after starting up other programs. The visible component (the app itself) is only used for configuration, after which you do not need to run it at all.

Thanks Lisa for this wonderful app Just praying hard that SE truly gives us more RAM memory for the next P990i firmware upgrade...

I like Bootman for UIQ 2.0 MUCH better.
IMHO, it's quite annoying that the app asks "Perform Autostart?" question every time and then reports "app started: ..., available memory ...", so you need to press "done".
That ruins all the Bootman idea... Uninstalled.

That's for your phone's safety. It may happen that you include in the autostart list an application which turns out to be doing something wrong when autostarted at boot time. If this occurs, with the dialog you can skip the autostart and then exclude the offending app from the list.

We will add options for these dialogs in a future version.

Yes, it's called UIQ3 operating system

Right on!! SE should add this "feature" when they promote the phone. This is truly an unique feature that not many phones have

I really love this app, its very nice

Just installed the trial version for UIQ3 and it does not work. I followed the instructions and the 'test' process but when I restarted phone the apps did not start. Am I doing somehting wrong?
I have Swiss Maanger Pro installed - is there a conflict? What else can I try to have certain apps auto-launch - purely for convenience than anything

Unfortunately BootMan can not autostart on the latest firmwares, due to a security change introduced by SE after the release of BootMan.

Can't you override that with Bootman?

Posted by Zed@CPS
Announcement: BootMan is now considered obsolete, as its services are better implemented by our recent product, Bunch Launch, that provides a more convenient and versatile way of quickly bringing the phone to a desired state. Please try Bunch Launch if you ever found BootMan useful.

BootMan is back! Version 2.00 presents unrestricted ability to autostart any number of applications at boot-time, on all SE UIQ3 phones.

Additional features are:

- Supports both immediate and boot-time execution.
- Configurable delay before and between starting each application.
- Optional confirmation and screen messages during execution.
- Customizable startup sound.
- Can restrict execution to a certain flip mode.
- Edit the system greeting text and set startup-time locks.
- Detailed information on all installed applications.
- Useful information like system uptime and time of last reboot.

Free, functionally unrestricted trial version is available for download!

Just to let you all know there is a tutorial on the following thread to make any app auto start by modifying the .sis installation package.
Much neater than installing extra apps like bootman.

http://www.persian-forums.com[....]unction-any-application-11271/

Pretty straight forward - if you need a hand let me know.
