Also, I should have done this earlier, if you check his feedback he bought a HBH-DS970 from Hong Kong a few weeks earlier
I think though that all the headsets are made in China anyway.
I've now filed a dispute with PayPal. I expect bugger all back, but who knows.

But as discussed before, it seems that some of the fake ones might also come with 2.

For those of you having fake/faulty HS, the only way to get them online after it freezed/crasched is to charge it, then it seems to wake up again.
The freezing on incoming calls seems to be the thing that should alert it is a fake.

A week back I sent my second faulty HS back, this time I'm supposed to get a refund. I didn't think about it at the time and now I can't do it, but it came into my mind after buying fake batteri, it may be diff. weigts between ori and fake as it was with the battery story.
So if you have two HS and suspect one is a fake and you have a didi-scale try to messure their weight.

It was 20% diff between the battery 15g fake, 18g. ori. it may be some diff on the HS too.

I bought the fake one from that same seller (mlaccessories). So I can just tell you now that you will get a fake one.
I am still waiting for the refund, it just take forever.

I don't remember what's the package looks like, but one quick way to tell is from inside the plastic carrying case.

Like I said before, in the original case there are markings moulded into the case top. There aren't any on the copy. Look at the pics in the link in the first post of this thread.

Not strictly true. I bought mine at RRP from a large UK shop and it works great & sounds stunning & all the pictures of the real DS970 on the link are the same as mine but the case does not have the stamp mark in the lid but as the shallower groove like the real picture.

@tipu_ro
wrong forum!
anyway, charge your mobile, it'll work.

Posted by alkoholiczka
i just want to warn everybody, to don't buy from ' usbdepot ' [ebay].
he sells fake ds970.
i just bought the orginal headset and compared it with the one from kong kong. Difference is HUGE!!! sound quality in fake one is ok, but u can hear noises, and sometimes it's freeze without any reason. It's just crap! Orginal plays perfectly! So if u have any doubt about yours it means it's fake!
But on both boxes is write: Made in China )))

Posted by barrowfordred
I'm having no joy with my seller. He insists the product was working perfectly when he sent it to me. To be honest, I can't tell from the pictures comparing mine if it's a fake or not. Has anyone managed to get a genuine DS970 working with an Orange branded M600i???
This doesn't bode well for Orange, or Ericcson - I've bonded with a Nokia 6230 AND..............the headset works perfectly. Bugger.
This is a picture of the numbers on the back of my headset.
Anyone else got similar.?

@barrowfordred,
i have now both orginal and fake, so i can tell u some differences between them.
all this letters on the back: as i can see on your picture, it's fake. orginal signs are very sharp, fake are a bit blured (as yours). there's difference in letters colour as well. org are orange-grey, fake are grey (not really grey, something between grey, yellow and green).
i don't know anything about connecting to nokia, coz i have se. but obviously if it's orginal it will work with any compatible mobile, if it's fake then u'll have problems.

one thing more, as i wrote before: if don't take fake and orginal side by side it's difficult to see differences. but as u compare them (and sound quality) it's VERY big difference.

so if u have problems with connecting and (as i can see) it looks like fake it means IT IS FAKE!!!

Posted by demirok
I bought the fake one too. When I try with multipoint mode it is work ok. Pressing the call button worked also. I try this few times and still working.
I hope it will stay that way

Posted by tonchy
how about ur sound quality? is it crap like with the other fakes?

Posted by alkoholiczka
that's really bad....
i just checked some ds970 on ebay. almost all from hong kong. a few from private uk sellers. and that's the worst thing. when i checked those sellers feedback, all of them had previously bought their headsets from hong kong!!!
BE CAREFUL!

Just got the refund from this seller: mlaccessories

Save yourself some troubles, don't buy from him.

@morgan1130

have u got refund for shipping costs as well?

Posted by barrowfordred
My phone's been de-branded and the headset still locks up on incoming calls, sound quality is poor and I've e-mailed the seller for a refund. Don't think he'll accept though. I'll have to go through Paypal, and seeing as I can't get to a service centre to verify whether the headset is a fake I may be struggling (

I've got a reply - to send the headset back for a refund, minus postage. Ah well losing £5 is better than losing £35

Good luck. He claims he never received mine!

i sent mine back today the headset cost me 74 dollars and sending it back was 24 i hope he refunds me both the headset and the shipping back...
we'll see..

Posted by alkoholiczka
ok everybody, im gonna tell u something. maybe it will make u think...

as u know (if u read my posts before) i bought fake ds970. i spent on it £30 + £7.50 shipping cost. Seller told me they don't refund shipping costs. so i need to pay to send the headset back, and i don't even have a guarantee that they will give me mine £30 back.
As i can see many of u have a similar situation. I'm gonna write u what i have done to get rid of this problem. It's just what i have done, i'm not saying it's good to do that, but if u want u can try...

U READING THIS ON YOUR OWN RESPONSABILITY !!!

U can buy this headset from many mobile shops (of course not only ebay). And that's where story starts.
i visited a few mobile shops in town and pretending 'stupid girl' i was asking about ds970. - what's that? - is it nice? - how much is it? - is the sound quality good? ... etc. I was just pretending that i want to buy it, but i'm not really sure if i want it (like girls always do ). so i was asking in every shop if it's possible to give it back if i buy it and then won't like it. in 2 shops they said no, but finally in 3rd they said ok! Guy was a bit confused, but after a word with manager they said OK! he just told me that if i don't like it, i have to bring it back in 7 days, and box has to be in the same condition. ...that's what i was looking for..... so i bought orginal headset for £89,99 (!!!)(price in shop!!!).
Back at home i just changed rubbers (put the orginal rubbers on fake headset and the other way round), coz that was a difference they could spot. i packed fake hong kong to orginal box, and after few days i went back to the shop. i showed the receipt and said that i don't really like this headset, and i want my money back. this guy just checked if everything is in the box, and without a word gave my a refund!!!!!!! i just said 'thank u' and left. uuuaaa... to be honest i almost shited myself when i was there, but he didn't realise anything! and that's it! i end up with geniue SE and don't need to worry about sedning it back and stuff like that.

this is info for everybody.
if u work in shop always check what people bring u back before u give a refund:)
if u want to buy something always check it out (even if it's a proper shop!!!) , coz it can be something from hong kong )
and finally if u have fake.... u know what to do [cash only!!! - no credit cards!!!]

p.s. sorry for my english but it's my 2nd language.

I have a fake headset bought it from US shop on ebay their name is blaccessories I just realised today that I have a fake headset as it does not play properly and cannot handle dual mode very well.

I just sent them a mail and told them that my SE service center told me it was fake.

Posted by marcellos
alkoholiczka:
Sorry, but I think this is just as wrong as selling the fake headset.
I wouldn't advise anyone to do it. The fact that you were screwed doesn't give you the right to screw someone else.
This headset will probably be sold (for big bucks) to someone else in good faith...

Posted by alkoholiczka
@marcellos

if somebody buy it, and it won't work properly, there's nothing easiest than give it back to shop. it has full warranty!

Posted by marcellos
Someone will still have to pay for it... Either the buyer, or maybe the shop, or maybe the manufacturer. And it's none of them's fault.

And what if this "someone else that bought it" sends it to warranty and gets a reply that they could not fix it because it's not an original product ?

Besides that, the fake seller keeps your money.

...My opinion still is that you should look for another way of solving it.

Posted by kpjimmy
I bought a fake one as well. I am in the US. The ebay seller is come_chinese007 or something like that. I placed a dispute about a month later after I received the headset. I thought the unit was just wasnt up to par with my Plantronics 590A so I just put it aside, not thinking anything about being fake until I saw a thread on howardforums.

As of now, I had filed a dispute with paypal, and they refunded me 100% of what I had paid in the transaction. And I still have the unit in my possession!

As for the person that asked about the difference in packaging, in my observation, ALL SE headset boxes have the large sticker on the side listing the product, product number and where manufactured. The fake ds970 did not have such sticker as you see in iaok's pictures you see one clearly. But again this is an assumption.

Good luck to all!

Posted by marcellos
how did you manage to get paypal refunding you without you sending the item back ? Can you tell us more detail about how you managed the case ?

Posted by kpjimmy
Well in short, I had put in a dispute to paypal stating that the unit was not a genuine item. The proof was the feedback the guy/girl has, stating that a lot of the headsets were indeed fake. I let the dispute go for 3 days or so and then after the third day, I escalated the case. In this instance, paypal takes over, emails both you and the seller to try to resolve and if the seller does not reply to paypal, then paypal judges based on the case in hand that you are correct. Time frame was about a week.

I am happy with the outcome.

Sorry for the late reply, but it was minus the shipping cost, I think it's the agreement when you buy something on ebay.

@alkoholiczka

That just wrong. Just like another guy said, you were doing the same as selling the fake one. If I am the one bought your fake headset, and not knowing the return policy of that store, I might not return it, I will just think "Oh, SE fooked up again", and you are telling people here to doing that? FTW...

You should just delete or edit your post.

Could be that they were ashamed to show you support in public ?

Wow i cant beleive all of you are soo quick to beleive everything is a fake. fake fake fake fake fake fake fake! its unbeleiveable. its really not worth anyones effort to reverse engineer the whole product from scratch and then get a factory to start producing it illegally when you can just goto the factory thats allready producing them and buy all of their duds that didnt pass the quality control maybe for small insignificant reasons and then selling them as brand new. now i do have a pair and they work absolutely fine with my k550i except of course the EQ settings dont seem to adjust the sound so i tried out my HT820s and had the same problem so i definately think it has to do with the phones firmware and nothing to do with my headphones being a fake. its annoying that for every small litle detail you are all soo quick to assume its a fake, and then ruin peoples reputation by giving bad feedback when theyve done little wrong. as for my headphones the sound quality is wonderful and THERE ARE NO FAKES, ONLY LOWER QUALITY SE PRODUCTS! not to mention the SE logo on my headphones look more legit than the SE logo on my k550i just going to show that small discrepancies in the logo DO NOT mean its a fake! JESUS H CHRIST you people...

Alexhaj: you should research more about the subject before saying this. There are many many fake products on the market... and people should be careful when buying this kind of product.

Besides of the taken pictures at http://213.19.178.16/se I had original and fake compared from the inside. They have completely different electronics internally. Are you going to tell me that sonyericsson made 2 different projects (one with high and another with low quality) ? Or will you agree that someone made a cheaper copy and tried to seel it as a sonyericsson ?

Posted by Wiltshire
I can assure you all the items from this ebay seller are fake. Brought 2 Motorola H3's. Awfull sound quality. Reported him/her to ebay & Paypal.

check out this site for how to spot a counterfeit headset.

@alexhaj
THERE ARE FAKES!!!!

listen(or read) you won't believe it!!!
I finally got the refund from mlaccessories but i did not get the shipping back refunded so i still ended up wasting 2 months and 25 $us.
Anyways since i really wanted the headset I wrote a question to a lot of sellers asking if their item was original and guess what?

1)some repplied it is original but would not send pictures
2)some like ioak replied with pictures (good seller hehehe)
3)and SOME REPLIED SAYING "SORRY IT IS NOT ORIGINAL"

Can you believe that. so anyways since i am buying from seller ioak i told him about this thread here at ESATO and he told me another difference to spot fakes. The charger on fakes has 2 plastic headpins sticking out just like phone chargers where as the original has only one. here is a picture

amd he said that if it comes from HK charger must either be europe(2 round pins) or UK(3 pins) so if you got a US charger and your item came from HK then it is a fake

Posted by morgan1130
@alexhaj
What Tonchy said was true. I had both fake (from ebay) and original one, while the original one works perfect, the one from HK ebayer just hangs every time I pick up the phone while listening to music, and couldn't even turn if off afterwards so I had to wait for the battery drains out. It's not even about quality control since it's not even functional. And the differences between them from the look are exactly the same as shown in the original post. So STFU unless you own both versions.

@tonchy
I am not too sure abou the charger, though the original one I got has 1 pin and fake one got 2 pins like you said, but in the manual it says the pin might be different depends on areas.

@alkoholiczka
Jealous??? It's people like you help those ebayers selling fake stuffs without worry, you want to help the crime? fine.
I don't know how your mom taught you to become such a little asshat, but I am sure you will teach your son the same thing and will be so proud that he is a smart kiddo.

Thanks for the heads up, the prices up on eBay seem to be too true, how can they sell for 40-50% less than of the cheapest in store price that i can find (as well as staticice.com.au).

Posted by pika360
After reading this thread, I've come to realize that my HBH-DS970 is a fake. Yes, it was purchased from eBay from a seller in Hong Kong The seller is "blaccessories" if you are interested to know.

The sound was bad (worst than my cheap headset from Sony), this thing froze all the time with the backlight and the display on. It doesn't look like the pictures from SE site (there's a white frame around the display which the one I have doesn't.). the metal rings around the headphone comes off easily, it drops Bluetooth connection with my W850i (thank God that's a real one from HK), controls to my phone is bad, battery life is significantly less than 4 hours playback. Friends told me the sound is full of static when I talk using this headset. The previous/next track slider switch is so poorly made that its corners stick out and it looks like it can break. I got it for about $70 and that's still $30 away from what's advertised from Amazon.

It does came with two extra pairs of rubber inserts for the headphones, and the original box is so real too. The instructional manual looks poorly copied that it's barely readable. I even doubt the charger enclosed is real but it does charge my phone correctly.

I just submitted a PayPal dispute report to pursue a refund for selling a fake from this seller. I am sure he got this from that other fake distributor/seller on eBay, no doubt. Maybe it could even be him in disguise...

I will let you guys know how the dispute process went. We really need to warn others about buying stuff from HK (I was born and raised in HK btw, so I know this is a HUGE problem. Sadly this doesn't protect me from falling in the fake scheme on eBay.)

DON'T BUY FROM "blaccessories" ON EBAY! HE'S KNOWN TO SELL FAKE HBH-DS970s. I don't know what else he's selling that's fake in his store. This is a public service announcement.

(4/8/07) Hey guys! I got a message from blaccessories "Concur Trading, Inc, blaccessories@gmail.com" from the PayPal Resolution Center:

"This is the original item that we got it from Fry's Electronic. Please send back to us for full refund, and we will take back the item to Fry's Your RMA Number is R1332 Please send back the item (With original Package and accessories) to us for refund Return address is Concur Trading Att: RMA Department 133 S Ramona Ave #B Monterey Park, CA 91754 Please also included this copy of email in the return Package"

I work right across from Fry's Electronics and none of the stores in California carries this headset. Why does someone locate in California mark his store's location in Hong Kong? I can't find anything about this company's background either. Besides, this item is long-past Fry's infamous 15-day return policy.

How could he return an item that which wasn't sold at Fry's and the item is long past return date? Beats me.

Should I settle for a refund and close the case with PayPal by paying the shipping and send the "fake" item back or pursuit further action from PayPal? I feel bad because he could resell fake, returned this item as new and a new victim appears because of me. Discuss.

Feel free to write to this seller to share your personal thoughts about selling fakes to honest buyers. Tell it like it is, all right?

I know that the original HBH DS970 cost arounds 150 from SE website. I just bought mine through a reputable company that sells all kinds of smart phones and are located in the UK.

www.expansys.com

bought mine for 101.95 USD and thats shipped to the U.S I'd rather spend this much rather than go thru the hassle of figuring out which is fake and real. Some people on their forum boards report they sell legit versions of the DS970 and they even point out that one website that shows the fakes too.
