People like my wife, for instance: They need only be able to make & receive calls and handle VM, some SMS, and a little MMS. The only other requirements are N. American frequencies (850 and 1900 MHz), compatibility with Apple's iSync application, and
- things like camera resolution and MP3-playing are meaningless.
It seems Motorola is the best bet here, e.g. RAZR V3s and PEBLs. This give you the basics in a compact, stylish, and inexpensive package.
Any other phones that fit the above?

I've been trying to get some info (and buy one) on the o2 JET. It would be perfect! 10 hour talk time, simple interface, quad-band and about $120US
I posted a question on it a few weeks ago but no-one seems to reply to any of my posts. Great looking phone though.

Email o2 for more info on it! Btw a simple phone would be a T68i but there discontinued! May the J range would be simple? Or what about Nokia they do some simple basic low end phones 6080 I think is 1.

Thanks miss UK but I actually already have the owners manual (downloaded it from o2 website) and I spoke to someone AT o2 a few weeks ago but I am looking for actual USERS impressions of the phone.
I was originally looking for "just a phone" myself but with the selection of phones out there to choose from, the w810i had the best battery life so I chose it. It was an added bonus that it has all the bells and whistles (which I have come to really enjoy).

I've got a Nokia 6030 on Ebay at the moment, which is a nice simple phone with a colour screen but no camera, mp3 player or anything like that, though not sure if that's tri-band, and I think it's been discontinued now anyway.
Take a look on Nokia's website, they do do a range of entry level handsets

I would have suggested the same as miss uk or sammy boy. I've had the 6030 before as a backup phone and it does it's job well. Calls, sms and mms are not a problem. Coupled with Opera Mini, it's was perfect. The 6080 would be a worthy successor to the 6030. It looks great, simple but not cheap. I'd say even working professionals can use it without feeling that it's underclassed.

Didnt read the all posts in this thread but somehow i find myself close to this stuff. I had T68i for 2,5 years.. 1 month K750i during that time. and last week i got me a M600i and must say that i am somehow confused. I mean, i love this phone and wanted it for a long time. But now that i got it, it seems that somehow i am afraid for it and think it is too much for me. Anyone experienced similar/same problem?

Nope I knew the M600 wasnt very practical for young users.
I suugest getting the vodafone simply, or the Nokia 6234 very simple decent handsets.

Yes, it can make you in TOUCH with your loved ones . . . but what makes it BAD 9for the haelth too ) is when NEWER models comes out and we are OBLIGED to get ourselves ONE, just in order to be included in the circle

To the rest of you - the O2 Jet looks good, thanks for the tip. I'll have to evaluate that against the Motorola PEBL. The PEBL's hard to beat, though, as it's stylish, available in multiple colors, and only $150 direct from the manufacturer (unlocked/unbranded).

Hmm! Having read all the posts in this thread I can only chuckle to myself. Barring any fundamental changes in technology one can do himself or herself good to stick to his phone which does all the basics: calls, mms, vms, pictures for now. Why bring a whole cow to the house because one needs a tin of milk? At the moment one could be changing phones once a week to keep up with the manufacturers who are having a swell time. Ha!
