Best to take them for an evaluation to a specialist coin collector or dealer you can find them in yellow pages.

I've got a large collection of very old coins aswell, maybe its time i should get them valued aswell.

thought about that but not sure i9f i can be bothered lol

Posted by axxxr
you should be bothered because you might have a rare coin that might be worth more than you think.

It might be worth the extra effort to get a professional evaluation,i certainly will with my lot.

does it cost to ahve a proffessional valuation

Posted by axxxr
Nope not really...most coin dealers will be happy to do it!

best to check with the ones in your area, and call them to make an appointment.

Yeah mate, don't just sell the, take them to a specialist.

They could be worth a lot and well you don't really wnat to just sell them like that. Get them valued them Ebay them with that value in mind.

Have a look on Ebay for what similar coins are going for to get an idea.

I remember something about some 1933 coins being worth a lot as there are only a few of some in existence (I think they're pennies rather than half pennies though) try doing a google search on each as well.

Don't think the Di coin's worth much, there's lots about.

@sammy

I think you might be thinking about Edward VIII in 1936. There were a relatively small number of variously valued coins minted with his head upon them before he abdicated the thrown to marry Wallis Simpson. Some of these surviving coins are worth serious money.

@cyco - yes, you're right, I'm getting my years mixed up!

I used to be into a bit of coin collecting, still got a couple of hundred old and foriegn coins!

HeHeHe yeah!

I used to be into coin collecting too, don't think any of my collection is worth anything though

Nor mine lol, think my priciest coin probably only worth about £25-£30!

i have a couple from the 15th century and one from 9th century..i wonder whether they are priceless:)

Anyone who has some old coins should get them checked out, also don't try to clean them at all, not your job!

I think we're going to need a coin collecting thread soon lol!

I've got a couple of Roman ones, not that expensive but interesting to think who has handled them in the past, what they've been through, etc.

yuppo - not a good idea to clean them, especially if it's gonna be in cillit bang! (or however you spell it!) as it'll come up nice 'n' clean but it'll be worth less

i'm not into coin collecting, but 25-30 quid for one coin (if that is not it's original value lol) seems like a pretty reasonable price, when you think that if you had, say 100 coins, and the average price sold them at each was 10quid, you would've got 1000quid back...i know...your gonna say...'i put loads more into it' well..that's your call
