why set register 2 with value 59 if its not used (because line "07 02 00 13 $w2 $w2 $w2 #CMD_END" was removed - $w2 writes value 59 from register 2 to camera module...)? heh

Hi all,

I just discovered that the W810i, with firmware version R4DB005, will consistently handle JPEG 90% (Hex '5a') in the driver. I realize this might not seem like much of a boost, compared to JPEG 89% (Hex '59'), but I feel that squeezing out every little drop of performance counts.

Has anyone experimented with just how high of a JPEG value one can use before the driver starts crashing?

there's no rule. my bigest picture has 622585 bytes (75% compression) and was done at 592kb JPEG_MAX buffer and 90% compression. sometimes it crash especially when huge amount of details at picture

Just to be sure I understand you: as long as I set a large enough buffer to accommodate the pix, the driver/firmware will cooperate? Also, what is the largest buffer size that can be set?

Maybe, just my opinion, but v21.8 was quite sensitive to light and quite often, i got "overfiring" (don't know how to say it in english-area full of white colour) pictures. So maybe just a little more sensitive should be good, but how I said, my opinion and maybe problem at me...

Hmm, ok. I just popped off one that is 650KB (665,890 bytes) and the driver/firmware didn't crash. I took a high detail shoot, on purpose, to test it.

Maybe I got lucky.

well... all this compression settings in camdrv aren't as sweet as they look:

1. (cam_ss_jpeg_buf_size_6/7/8) 0x927C0 = 600000 = 586kb
2. original 5.3 camdrv #SET_JPEG_MAX(02,30) = 560kb

in both cases it's very easy to take pictures with larger size :/ increasing the value of the compression (probably above 85%) dramatically extend picture size so it's very easy to cross the buffer limit. ofcourse SE dudes did something like this: if picture size > buffer size then decrease compression value. even with this protection it will crash when something goes wrong.

so... max buffer size? i know the answer... it's the riddle

i will make further tests because this is very interesting topic...

If you use Sarmad's 4.81 with Spot and JPEG 89%, it will give you the same quality picture in Normal, without the CC, as in Fine with the CC.

Yeah! don't rush krio cuz u don't have anything else to do. He's working on 21.9 as we speak. i think 21.8 was GREAT, but i'm using sarmad's now, cuz sharpness is 6 (when you release 21.9, make a special edition with sharpness set to 6 plz) STOP ASKING FOR 21.9! i rather wait and get a good camdriver instead of rushing the man and get a nasty one...

to Krio v21.8: But I wanted to rewrite old post (it wasn't sent). Krio, I know, it's a bit late, but I think, in your 21.8, you have too high level of contrast and maybe you could do it only a litle bit "darker"....I see many "overburnt" photos from 21.8 and even had a few...

Test pics of Sarmad's 4.81(from first release post with spot) and 5.03 (original). My opinion - 5.03 gives colors closer to reality. 4.81 tends to pinkish. I prefer 5.03

And incredible ENM from Korpitis v6 Auto,Normal, Some EV decrease (it has obviously longer exposure, more difficult to keep hands stil for longer time:)

I must notice that night pictures were taken in really low light. Also the light has ellow-orange tone. The closest fit to real colors is in between 5.03-ENM-Auto and 4.81-ENM-Incandenscent shots, thow Korpitis v6 looks very nice

I didn't ry yet latest Sarmad/Korpitis drivers.
I'll repeat myself - is it possible to have these mods on one driver for example Normal-Korpitis/Fine- Sarmad?They would accomplish each other well!!!

Thanks for all the feedback and sample shots guys.. I'm currently working on a new driver. 5.6.. and so far its looking good.. It's going to be a mix of the great macro shots from 4.81 and the better colors and brightness of 5.03.. so hopefully this will be good

my goal is to have great sharp macro shots, and sharp and crisp landscape shots with good colors.

btw, i recommend not using CC indoors, it works great on outdoor shots at least on the W810.

BTW, how did such features as Janek's ENM speed up, and Mladen's compression trick behave? Are you going to use it in future mode? Are you going to keep smooth prview, or it interferes with focus?

I'm going to stick with stock compression tables.. the EM trick by Janek has been in 4.81 and I'm going to keep it most likely, or perhaps have a switch for it to be on and off, we'll see.

btw, the BLKSNAKER compression thing is the same as Mladen.. the commands he uses for compression have typos so nothing really happens, it ends up being the same thing as Mladen (which is not defining any compression tables or values at all)

21.9 like 21.8 is based on 7.7final (best driver for me) so settins are different

you can always change it later as you want
