nice phone, though not a 'world' phone i assume

Are they sure it's just QVGA? Just look at the size of that screen. Its width is almost twice as the height (viewing it horizontally).

Hi,
I think it is for AU - KDDI in Japan.

Looks good.

indeed it looks good, why o why cant we get these phones, blo*** japs
se could at least give the rest of the world the same phone, and maybe alter a couple things....
Posted by shaliron
That phone does look good. The hinge looks more sturdy than the N93's but does look a little funny, otherwise I really like the look of the phone. Wonder if it's a sign of things to come with the European SE TV phone.
Posted by goldenface
Thats what I was thinking. Mobile TV will have to be catered for as other companies are bringing out DMB or DVB-H compatible handsets.
This would be ideal.

Hi all,
I wouldn't say the robot arm is better i am perfectly happy with my N93 but it does look like it was N93 inspired to me. Nice phone though quite slick looking. I would like to see the full specs for it though and what OS its running and all its abilities.

WOW! that hinge on the side is so ugly!

Tasty! I want a fone like this for the US!
Posted by goldenface
I like this phone.
at 143g its about the same weight as the S700i and much lighter than the N93 (180g) It has stereo speakers above and below the keypad, not on the back of the phone, like some other handsets.
Thats the second Japanese handset using the 3" Bravia screen.
Must be making a lot of profit in the Japanese market for it not to release similar phones worldwide. Are mobiles not as subsidised as much as those in the UK market?

Looks very cool to me !
Posted by bigredend
Very fine looking phone, pity about the hinge !
Couldn't they make it run the full length of the body or at least integrate it a bit better !
Posted by shaliron
I really like outside of the phone though, and the hinge looks really clean when open lengthways. That's my favourite part of the phone (minus that protuding part).
Coupled with the huge screen which take up the entire top part, it looks really sleek.

That screen is awesome! What a device this is.

What are specifictions of this mobile ?and i have seen this mobile in newspaper in india
is this for japan only?
Posted by prachid
It's James Bland's phone.
Posted by EMS06
That's it!!! I'm moving to Japan. Tired of them getting the most innovative phones.
Posted by goldenface
Surely
would get a better return on its investment on a device like this if it was available globally and not limited to the Japanese market Can someone explain?
Does anyone know how much this would be in yen?
Posted by cristiano
this is the second mobile with bravia screen and only for japan
why?????????????????????/

Hiiiii
check this link http://www.sonyericsson.co.jp/product/au/w44s/ad/index.html
enjoy

@goldenface
Well, I'd like SE to release them worldwide, but I think Japan is a good area for SE to test phones first. They develop the advanced technology for Japan first, and overall stability etc. doesn't matter too much because of the short life span of the phones. All they want I guess is to see what works, and what doesn't. Then, after success in Japan, they can move onto tailoring it for the worldwide audience, and make a nice profit at the end.
I guess this means we'll see something quite similar come up for us soon
Posted by hanugro
Hm, second hinge on the side need little working. If SE can find a way to hide most of it on the body then it will be much better. Of course it should not hinder durability!

What is the difference between dual hinge of this W44S from N93's?
BRAVIA...I thought it would be WEGA. Why not WEGA?
Posted by shaliron
Well, it's easier to explain by just looking at the pictures of it. Compare the pictures and you'll see the difference.
Posted by Dogmann
Hi all,
Well the hinge on the N93 is part of the camera barrel and when opened into Landscape/Laptop mode allows the screen to fit flush to the phone. Unlike the SE design, also is that were they are also fitting the camera? as if not it really looks weird if it serves no purpose.

Because WEGA is old and BRAVIA is new, why would they put their old screen technology into their new products?!?!?!?!?!? BRAVIA is better than WEGA!
What a silly question, thats like asking why didn't sony make the PS3 only use DVD instead of Blu-Ray

bravia is used for LCD tv whereas wega tv's do not use lcd. phone screens are lcd so in my opinion bravia is more appropriate. i may be wrong.

I used to have a WEGA lcd, so yes you are wrong, BRAVIA is their new technology, end of.
