Ok, after intensively searching, and fiddling for a week to get this damn thing working, I think I've finally cracked it.
Here is my definitive guide to how I got it working on my system. I'm not saying this is the only way, this is just how I've done it, and its working on my system.
I have a SonyEricsson T68i and an MSI bluetooth key. I'm using Windows ME on an AMD system with a SIS K7S5A motherboard. The MSI key is in the USB port using the adapter supplied with it. I currently have FloatsMobileAgent , Ericsson Communications suite Package 2
an Mobilet (MSI's own rubbish) installed on my computer.
Before starting, I uninstalled all previous bluetooth drivers, also I removed the MSI key from the computer, and gave it a cold reboot.
I downloaded the version 15 software from the MSI site (well, I already had it, but you get the idea.) For other bluetooth adaptors, you'll have to locate the software yourself, and I cannot guarantee that this method will work. However, I hope it will.
MSI Bluetooth Driver Version 12.2.2.15 for Win98SE/ME/2000/XP(10Mb)
I extracted this self extractor into a temporary directory, clearly labelling it Version 15. Then I ran the setup file. I followed the install. Once the install had finished I accepted the restart. Once it had rebooted, I turned the computer fully off.
When the computer was off, I inserted the MSI key into the computer. I turned on the computer and the operating system found the new hardware and asked for drivers for the device. I directed it to the directory that I extracted version 15 into. Once this was complete, I cold rebooted the computer.
Now is a good time to upgrade the firmware of the MSI key. I had already done this, but if you havent, then now is the time. The MSI software should of made an entry in your start menu called upgrade firmware.
Once this is done, goto the Add/Remove programs and remove the MSI software. (When this was unstalling I got an error message about the BTstackserver, this didnt harm the uninstall) I also uninstalled the MSI software Mobilet. Once this was done, I restarted. Once I had restarted I cold booted the computer. While the computer was off I removed the MSI bluetooth key.
Next I downloaded the Version 16 software (well, I already had it saved). Once I had this, I extracted it into a temporary directory, clearly labelling it Version 16.
Tecom Bluetooth (Widcomm Generic)Driver Version 12.2.2.16 (16mb)
I then ran the setup.exe from this directory. I followed the install process. Once this was complete, I didn't accept the restart. Then restarted the computer myself. Once it had restarted, I switched off.
While the computer was off, I inserted the MSI key. Now I switched on again. When the system restarted, the Operating system recognised the new hardware. If it doesn't do this, goto the Control Panel, System dialogue, and click on the Unknown USB device, and click reinstall driver. When the system asks for the location of the driver, I pointed it to the folder where I had extracted the version 15 software from MSI. When it came up with the driver, it asked me if I wasnted to use 'this' driver, or view all driver found. I chose to view all drivers found. There was one other driver, located in the C:WindowsInf directory. I chose to use this version of the driver. ( I dont know if this makes any difference, its just the way I did it).
At this stage, even though the driver is installed, the MSI key should only be single blue flashing. At this point, right click on the Bluetooth Icon in the Windows system tray (bottom right of screen) and open up the configuration panel. Click the 'Hardware' tab. Now the MSI bluetooth device should be shown. Click 'Ok'. Now (after a second or two) the MSI key should start to double blue flash.
Now try sending a picture to the PC using your phone. (My Pictures, Send, Via Bluetooth) The phone should find your computer (although at this stage for some reason, mine found the name as 'phone'). The picture should now send to your PC.
Once this worked once, go back into your bluetooth configuration and click through evey tab. In the 'Information Exchange' you can change the destination directories where the files are sent to. I've created a Bluetooth Inbox in My Documents, but its up to you. Now 'OK' the configuration panel.
Now double click the bluetooth icon to open up My Bluetooth Places. Now on the phone, goto Connect, Bluetooth, Discoverable. Now in My Bluetooth Places, click search bluetooth devices (middle on). It should find your phone. Now double click your phone to search available services. Once this is done return to the top menu and click 'Add Bluetooth Connection'. Create a bluetooth serial port. It will ask you for a passkey. Enter something simple (I just put '1') now your phone will ask 'accept, add to pairer, decline' Select Add to Paired. Now enter '1'. This should work. Now go back and add another connection. I created an Information Exchange.
Now test sending a picture to your phone using the Inbox drag drop. (If you dont know this, goto bluetooth neighbourhood and click on your phone. Then double click inbox. Now, from explorer, try drag dropping a small .jpg file. The phone will ask if you want to accept it, and it should transfer.
Also, FloatsMobileAgent should work fine, and now all the Ericsson Communications suite (Phonebook, Textmessaging, Phone settings) should work fine. (Do not try using them at the same time - they interrupt each other).
I hope this guide helps answer a few peoples questions properly.
I dont regularly post her, but if you need to ask a question, mail me at David@bugone.co.uk

Ok, I had them all installed and like you, they didn't work. But I've found it is not WHAT you have installed it is HOW and in what order you have installed it.
Uninstall Version 16, then accept the restart. Then Cold reboot your computer. Now, with your bluetooth adapter out of the computer, follow the long winded install process I've said above.
You will have to substitute the MSI version 15 for the version 15 developed for your bluetooth adapter. Other than that it should be exactly the same.
I hope this helps.

Hmmm, I hope this works with my D-Link adapter.
Also, does anyone know of Bluetooth software with a Headset Profile (for my HBH-30)

Bless you, Bug One, for posting the link for the 1.2.2.16 bluetooth driver. I spent forever trying to get the 1.2.2.15 driver to work with my D-Link DBT120. v15 appeared to work on Windows 2000 but would never find my T68. v16 finds it just fine.
It then took me awhile to figure out that I had to also download the Sony Ericsson Mobile Monitor to get the XTND sync software to work with Bluetooth (I don't think it was required when I sync'ed via IR on another computer). I'm finally able to sync with Outlook via Bluetooth!
BTW, shame on D-Link for their lousy tech support. Email and phone support both said they didn't support their own DBT-120. Their email support was extra terrible in that they basically sent me responses such as "check our website" and "device not supported".

Bug One,
Thanks for the useful guide. I don't yet have a bluetooth port on my pc, but when I eventually get one, I'm sure I'll look up this thread. Bookmarking now
I just really appreciate users like Bug One who take the time to help others by posting the details of their troubleshooting efforts and resolutions.
I believe T68 users are a special breed, and the camaraderie represented on esato is proof of that.

do i need to install the msi version 15 first? can't i just skip that and install the tecomm version 16?
Posted by drhigh5
It is not necessary at all to install an earlier version of the Widcomm software. The reason I believe Bugone installed an earlier version is because that version had the driver for the MSI key in with the package. As long as you install the correct USB key driver first (for whatever key you have TDK, Tecom, MSI, Billionton, etc..) before installing the Widcomm software then you should be ok.
The Tecom version 16 shown on this page is from the Tecom site and incorporates the Tecom key driver in with the Widcomm software package version 16.
You could infact install the Widcomm version 18 which is now available, however, I have not found out where yet.
I do know that FloAt has tried it and says it work perfectly.

Posted by solobaric
By the way, is it the device or software that prevents me from sending files from phone to pc?

Software
Posted by Bug One
I never said it was the only way to do it.
'do i need to install the msi version 15 first? can't i just skip that and install the tecomm version 16?'
To be honest I dont know. I tried it like that first, and the darn thing didnt work.
Then I tried what I described above, and it worked. Go figure.

When I go to the menu after I install version 15, and I click version update It asks me for a file and I dont know what to pick, do i pick version 16? I dont know what file to pick.

has anyone encountered problems with version 16 with their bluetooth adapters? i mean, has anyone failed to transfer files from phone to pc?
Posted by solobaric
I finally got the darn thng to work. Now i can transfer files from phone to pc. I just install tecom ver16 with my billionton bluetooth adapter. I just encounterd a problem when install sonyericson pic editor. It changed some of my mpm settings. I need to reinstall again
Posted by drhigh5
I think it's fair to say that eveyone will encounter problems setting up everything they want to do. It took me a few days to get everything working and I was going mental as I am sure a few of you have. My tips really point to the differences between drivers and software. You may find that depending on your set-up and possibly what mood your pc is in at the time that things need to be installed in different orders. You really just have to be persistent and patient.
I hope some of my tips have been of use though as I am sure other peoples have.

Thanx u so much for helping me. This post is the best. I finally got everythng to work. Now i can send pics taken frm my mca 20 to my pc. My friends and i are having so much fun with the pics. Thanx for the help everybody

I know its a silly question, but is yours an MSI bluetooth adaptor?
Otherwise, make sure it is plugged in properly. It should be double flashing if the drivers are installed, or single flashing if not installed.
Posted by hyperken
the du is the firmware upgrade not the driver !!!!!!
Posted by solobaric
U dont to have the msi ver15 installed in your pc inorder to get it to work. Try this in order:1. Download tecom version 16 and install it in your pc and restart2. When your pc detects new usb hardware, go to device manager and use the driver that came with your bluetooth adapter. It can be either found in the cd that came with your adapter or at your manufactuer wedsite3. Aftr u have installed driver, restart your pc4. Then try pairing your phone and pcThats how i got my billionton adapter to work

Just tried to download the Tecomm driver from:
http://www.tecomproduct.com/asp/download.asp?id=164
It's 16+Mb, their download server seems incredibly slloooww, and then after I'd got about 15% of it (took about 30 mins) I got a "Download Halted - Server Reset" message!!
Anybody know of an alternative or mirror site for this?
Posted by drhigh5
If you are trying to download it from a 56K modem give up now. The only way you can do it that way is by using a download manager.
Posted by hyperken
you can use cable or adsl and isdn to download it !!!!
it will be few minutes only (about 3 minutes)

Where can I download the latest firmware for my MSI bluetooth key?
Posted by itsrep
No, I have the Belkin adapter but it came with the same software as the msi does. and it does get recognized but I cant transter images. I posted a question on some other thread and I got linked here.
Posted by solobaric
Try downloading the tecom version 1.2.2.16 software. The link is posted beginning in the forum

Lads, lads, lads (and girls) Why can't I download the Tecomm driver mentioned above without the download crashing all the time?
Any other download I try is fine, It's just this driver...
drhigh5 - I've tried a download manager but it still crashes and the Tecomm driver file does not have resume capability. So I'm back where I started on that one.
hyperken - If I had Broadband or Cable or ISDN I think I might just have enough sense to use it.
However some of us are:
A) Not Wealthy
and
B) Not in a Cable/Broadband area.
So I'm stuck with a 56k modem.
Any other (sensible!) suggestions?
Posted by solobaric
Hmm... Try having a friend with isdn/dsl/broadbrand download if for u. Broadband took me almost two hours

I may be wrong but, I think that:
For those of you that have the TDK Bluetooth USB Adaptor and want to download photos from your lurvely t68i to your pc:
You need the version 1.2.3 of the TDK Driver before this will work. This driver is not out yet, but is promised for mid december (2002.) So here's hoping those lovely guys at TDK Systems keep to their deadlines!
Extra Info:
I believe this is because previous drivers don't support the OBEX Object Push Profile.
Posted by moldy
ooo ooo ooo,
just remembered...
someone on this thread asked for a headset profile for their pc bluetooth driver.
well those lovely tdk systems guys come up trumps again (and no I don't work for them!)
there is a beta available at their site here:

ok - so i'll stop adding dumb posts to this thread soon, but I thought I had better correct my own silly self before someone else realises...
after reading this post:
http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=14443&forum=18
I realise that the TDK drivers are already out that support files from phone to pc, here:
http://www.tdksystems.com/support/drivers/range.asp?id=1
and of course it is not the tdk software itself that has the new support but the underlying bluetooth drivers. Hence the MSI one and the TDK one etc. work now...
note annoyingly that the TDK system require you (with a serial no.) to have the TDK bluetooth device.
For anyone that is considering buying a pc bluetooth adaptor, i would recommend forking out the extra for the tdk one. read alot of other posts and i think you'll agree. For a few extra pounds, you will save hours of frustrating installation and configuration time. My tdk device just worked. Which was nice.
feel free to disagree/flame/shower me with praise/shower me with the golden stuff,

ok, I installed version 16 and used the driver that came in the cd when I bought the Belkin usb adapter. i read in the instructions to try to send a picture from your phone to your pc and the phone searches and finds my computer which i labeled (pc) anyway after I chose that, it tries to send for a second and it says "transfer failed please retry"
By the way, I found this other thread where they said that if you were having problems sending pictures from phone to pc to download the .18 version and that would fix it. Im going to try that now. Do I need any extra programs to send it? because I read something about mobile monitor and other stuff but I didnt see that until after the instructions in the beginning of this thread told me to send the picture form phone to pc.

I tried version 1.2.2.18 and the driver off of my cd doesnt respond when windows is searching for a driver and it asks me to look for a driver online. Again, i have the belkin not the other ones but i heard its basically the same thing except the brand name. anyway.. should I just stick with version 16? but im still havingthe picture transfer problems, pairing them its easy, but transfering is the problem.
Posted by solobaric
Stick with version 16 and try getting an updated version of your driver
Posted by itsrep
OMg, I finally got it to send to the phone. Thats awesome, Can I send themes to it using the inbox folder too or just pictures? I still cant send pictures from phone to pc (which will be vital when I get the communicam) I was reading this forum and it said that some bluetooth adapters just wont receive pictures from t68i and I think the belkin was one of them. any of you got the belkin and has sending to pc working? let me know what you had to do. Im using version 16 by the way

I have the Belkin F8T001 adaptor... I was having similar problems to everyone else here. Initially installed the software coming with the adaptor. Didn't work well. Then I downloaded software from Belkin's web site. (FT8001.exe) This seemed to help a bit, I could sync with Erricson's ETNDConnect software finally, but couldn't download from T68i to my computer. Finally I've downloaded the BTW12216.ZIP software. Uninstalled my Belkin software and installed the version 16 software from TECOM. Immediately I was able to send files from the T68i to the computer. But now wasn't able to upload anything to my phone. I've rebooted and remove phone battery etc.. and Finally am able to both download to and upload from my T68i. All smiles so far.. will post if there are further problems. Hope this helps those with Belkin adaptors.. Cheers... Roger

I'll try it tomorrow at office with my MSI bluetooth adapter
