Is there any way to make the SMS longer like more then 160 characters. On my old nokia i could have up to 950 in to a SMS.
I really dont want to pay for 2 SMS when i can pay for one

Maybe on the phone it shows as 1 sms but you sure wasn't sending that as a 1 sms message via network lol, trust me the operator networks are not stupid and they are not going to let you send sms for free. Well anyways it's not free in the UK anyways it will either cost you or come out of your free monthly sms usage.

One SMS is 160 characters not more!

more than 160 characters is already equal to 2 sms mate.

why is it higher on Nokia? and then they only charged me for one SMS.
now they charge me for 2 SMS?
i use k750i

@daloATF
on my p990i,it shows how many characters i typed and how many sms it took because of the characters. Here in saudi even though i used more than 160 characters they will less my load equal to 1 only but in the philippines more that 160 characters is already equal to 2 sms it may also depend on the network.

i think different phone models have different settings that count as one sms. anyway it cost mobile fone companies almost nothing to send a text so allowing two due to the phones configuration isnt harming them much. it might also depend on what network you are with

its dead easy to do that!
all u need is access to the Message Centre, Log in codes and the ability to change certain settings...
once u got all these all u need to do is re-write the message centre controls and unlimited size sms are urs for no extra cost!
Easy peasy me thinks!

@voda john: hahahahah Now that was a good one; now please, tell the guy how he can do that, he's phone is brand new and he doesn't know his way aroun
Posted by voda_jon
heres a little tutorial for yeh
Read the post i made above... once u find these come and tell me and i'll give you six pieces of gold, then u need to take these gold pieces to the man at the market who will give you the correct re-written code and then all you need to do is go to your nearest local SMSC (short Message Service Centre) and insert this code in your mailbox (this will be allocated in rack 45 on row 3, its the small black box with 'I cant believe you have thought this would work' wrote on it)
Then your set to go....

Posted by voda_jon
oh my god! the reason why i didnt giv u a real answer is because u CANNOT DO THIS! IT IS DOWN TO THE NETWORK! NOT YOU!
Now jus either...
1. Cut your messages down to below 160.... or
2. Spend the little bit extra and send more than one!

Yeah Idiot!! You clearly don't deserve to have a mobile phone? Try one of those fake ones you get from the toy shop.

i once saw a monochrome motorola that was capable of more then 160 chars, but only when sent to other motos of the same type. I think it must have compressed the message. Don't quote me on that. Or hat.
(edit) jeez Rajjy leave him alone man. Peace out

No need to kill the poor guy!
No there's no way of getting that many characters in one SMS.
Posted by Rajjy
Well it was obvious that it can't be done, wasn't it.
Anyone with half a brain knows that.

He didnt understand it, but in the long run we save an absolute FORTUNE

how come it works with nokia 6610i? i have 900characters
and dont say its the networks cause its the same!
isent there a way to upgrade the firmware or something?
Posted by rockygali
900 chars = 1 SEND = 3 SMS Charges
You sure you were charged by your network with 1 SMS? and what phone model that message was sent to?
Dude before nagging everyone in the forum with the answers you want to hear.... be reasonable... if you want to SEND 3 SMS in one go and ONE charge then go used the old phone dude! dont upgrade nor use any other models..
sheeesh!
Posted by Rajjy
Exactly!! It is the networks that set the limit!! Not the phone manufacturer. WE CAN'T MAKE IT ANYMORE SIMPLE!! YOU MUST'VE BEEN GETTING CHARGED MORE THAN ONE SMS!!
NOW GO BACK TO YOUR PLAYGROUP!!

this thread is pure gold

I don't know which is dumber. This thread or the thread originator. There is no way to do it. The operators are not stupid. They spend 10 million dollars on a billing system and a guy with a Nokia thinks he has them beat. Now tell me who is dumber, the operators or the guy with the magic SMS.
SMS's are sent in th d-channel as mobile networks use ISDN V.110 protocol or V.120 protocol. They are in effect free as the d-channel is used for signaling and is always open or listening for communications data. Operators know that SMS's are a cash cow, so to the originator of this thread, get a life or give the phone back. If you want service, pay for it.

You hear that daloATF? Yeah? Good!!
(I do find it funny that it was daloATF's first post on Esato, and he's been shot down in flames!)

It is not about the flaming as much as it is his attitude. "Hey everyone, teach me how to get something for free". Not to mention that he has no understanding at all that there is nothing free. GSM operators spend billions with a big "B" on their networks. They need every penny and this guy has a magical Nokia that can send novels for free. Is he for real or what?
Posted by soulframe
You could always send an MMS as it might work out cheaper, depending on your network and tariff.
Posted by Rajjy
MMS's in the UK are the cost of 3 x SMS, so that won't be cheaper.
He could send an email if his phone has email capability? Alternatively, with his "magic" Nokia that that allows you to send 900 character SMS's and only get charged for one, he could sell it on eBay, and probably get thousands for it(!)
When I had a Blackberry and used the SMS function, it had a countdown of characters in the top corner which started at 900 or so... but I was never under the illusion that I was only going to be charged 1 x SMS. Why? Because I'm not a twat.
As mentioned previously in an earlier post.... sending text messages is a cash cow for operators. They give away on average 120mins per month per customer... they gotta make money some how. The money they make from us sending SMS's enable them to give away so many free minutes a month, yet still rake in big profits. That should give you an idea of how much SMS's make for them. Nothing is free in this world.
End of thread.

Not to mention, as I stated, it costs nothing to send an SMS as the phone is always waiting to hear something. An SMS is just another piece of data. This guy might not be a twit but he needs to really rethink what he says.
