The W42s might be rebadged as W888i for Europe. Its quite an unusual design so the W888 designation would fit in with that nicely.

Remember this :
K500 ---> K508
K600 ---> K608
K610 ---> K618
Those 3 phones added a "8" in last digit and we all know that the specs are the same as previous except their casing.

AFAIK 'Xxxx8' is normally given to the Chinese/Asian or alternate versions of phones.
The M608 was announced as a 2G version of the M600; I think it was to do again with the Asian market (due to larger use of 2G). The K508 is another version of the K500 and was more popular (widespread) than the K500 in China. The Z558 was a touchscreen version of the Z550 intended for the Chinese market for improved text input.
So I'd expect the W888 to be 2G version of the W880 (Ai).

That isn't the W880. That's a Japanese SE (W42S). The W880 is the Ai.

The most logical thing to think (if this isn't a hoax of course, which is the most probable), is that they only used the W42S as a placeholder by lack of pressphotos of the W880i.

handset?? 
It is a shame the K900 was a joke; also a severe shame that SE haven't made a high-end device available for christmas, the W900(and S700 before it) were superb handsets, and successful for
.......I guess they made so much profit over the year that they don't need the sales(or they have decided that they just want money, which they can gain selling mid-range phones without the extra effort required to market niche/high-end ones).......
I fear it is already costing them supporters(not that they'll care), tho...........

Well there'll be quite a number of rumoured high end SEs next year. W950 with a camera, Handycam etc. But there'll be a far higher percentage of low-mid end mobiles. I think ths year was to consolidate SE's position int he market.

Aware, SE made it known that it would not announce any more announcements until the New Year as not to hamper the sales of current models. But expect a flood shortly after the New Year. Each month of the the first quarter we should see new phones announced.

Understandably, @Shaliron; however, please observe - since 2003: P900, SE created high-end, convergence devices(P910/S700 in '04; W900 '05), which at the time of release, were that awesome they pushed the other manufacturers to raise their game considerably(try P900 vs 6600 - so funny, not really a comparison) to compete.......
.........however, now, the other manufacturers have responded to SEs 'quest for excellence'; as you all know, they have some amazing convergance devices themselves - N-Series, Ultra-Series, HTC-TyTN and others........yet, at the same time, SE has cancelled their convergence devices and decided that (non-japanese)SE owners should take 'two bottles into the shower', i.e: a walkman phone to listen to music on, and also a cybershot phone to take pictures with(apart from the P-series, but even that is not the product it was specified to be....yes, I own one)..........
And yet SE Japan have the SO903i - a perfect convergence device with better(also more) features than K800i and W900 put together.......it would have been NO effort for this handset to be marketed around the world(a la 802SE - V/Z800i, or 902i - K800), yet SE deem we're not worthy..........while N93(for example) owners laugh from above, maniacally.........
I just hope
will return to the form that got them where they are today......convergence, not divergence!
@bodeh6, I know this, I also know that SE were 'advised' around 12months ago that they had to produce more mid/low-end handsets to bulk out their range(told off for have too many high-end ones only? Crazy, eh??)........however, doesn't make it right......

And anyone else notice how thin the K770 (Li) actually is?
I estimate (from the other pics) that the W770 and K770 are only around 13mm thick. That's a very nice size IMO, especially considering that the other dimensions are around the same as the W810 (99x46mm). Much better overall compared to the W880 (Ai, which is a bit too tall and wide).
