It's Europe as far as I know.

Thanks.

Monday is quite abnormal for announcements, isn't it? It was tuesday for a long time and now, K850 event and K630 were thursdays. Now a monday...

Posted by m-one
AFAIK both the P3i and MOOI will be announced on November 15th.

I can't, your thread is the first place to go when it comes to SE rumors, I just want you to put a stricter filter on it, it's so great and I just wanted it to be even greater.

anyway, can anyone confirm this P3 thing about the 15th, or has any info about the phones to be announced.

So what's the point? I was not expecting or suggesting that SE should use UIQ in their mid-end phones. I was saying that SKARVEN [ Motorola's 8 megapixel UIQ smartphone] and X PIXEL are better than any of UIQ phones to be announced by SE. Where did you get that UIQ mid-range thing from?

Perhaps you should entertain the idea that I possibly misread your post.

Yeah, I agree as well. I really can't imagine why consumers would really want from a smartphone that non-smartphones can't offer. I think the iPhone is a good example because it is more a dumbphone than a smartphone, and it is a good consumer phone - easy and fun to use, although a lot of 'basic' functions were left out.

@SMS
Yeah, I know what you mean about filtering, but regarding announcements, there's only so much you can do - either they are or they aren't. The only stuff that can be filtered is things like phone specs, strategies etc.

And did anyone pick up on the hint in the unbiased K850 review?

I got the feeling that SE tries to modify certain aspects in this phone for future purposes. To further explain, the addition of PSP like media manager can indicate the trend the manufacturer is trying set. They introduced this very handy option, and moved the file manager shortcut to the Organizer menu. Why? because they want the users to get used to this (PSP like) interface, which will be the major feature of a new media centric (yet to be announced) handset.

Now let's name an upcoming, multimedia centric phone, that would greatly benefit from such an interface, which is both attractive and easy-to-use - consumer friendly....

will the MOOI have the size of the PSP screen too ?? (Please say yes )

@sealover94
Highly, highly doubt it. It's still going to have the d-pad and navigation buttons remember, so anything above 3" is good enough a size IMO.

And that's not the Mooi....

Hmmmm somebody has a feeling and you make it a rumour just to keep this thread rolling!!! Oh well.

Monday's conference about UIQ doesn't necessarely means that UIQ phones will be announced. From the past experience, this never happened during a strategic conference. But we will see.

Sony Ericsson themselves STATES it as being an ANNOUNCEMENT. And it's a press conference about UIQ. So let's see who's wrong, shall we....

Simple fact for people to remember: stated that there would be 5 UIQ devices in '07 to join the 3 launched in '06......which should have made 8 total......

...and so far, they've released one, and announced(but not launched yet) another......

......so where are the other 3, then?? Or have they given up??

Or, is it 's same lack of numerate ability, which as we all know, led them to entirely under-estimate the amount of RAM required to run a UIQ3 phone(a la P990 etc...)?? So much wasted potential......

read the quarter results, see if that can give you some hint

Apart from...
“We are confident that the remainder of the year will see us further capitalize on this new broader portfolio with flag-ship Walkman® phone models such as the W910 and W960 plus the much anticipated 5 mega-pixel Cyber-shot™ K850 camera phone launching in time for the holiday season.”

... hm. And considering W580 "higher-end". Erm... well.

Sony Ericsson announces a press conferece about UIQ strategy, NOT an announcement of UIQ devices:

"Miles Flint, President of Sony Ericsson and Johan Sandberg, CEO of UIQ will host an international press conference announcing a strategic business update for UIQ .

Following Sony Ericsson’s acquisition of the Swedish software company from Symbian Ltd on 2nd February, there has been significant progress with regards to UIQ technology, handsets and licensing. Monday’s announcement will further enhance the strength of UIQ as highly competitive and independent cross-vendor user interface platform for business and multimedia feature phones."

I am hoping myself to see more UIQ devices, but I doubt. Monday we will hear about the company's strategy for the near future. And maybe later in a month (possibly November 15th) we will see more UIQ devices.
We will see on Monday, have a nice weekend.

Don't worry, Smartphone show on Tuesday, too...I'll ask SE directly, once I've finished discussing P990's/P1i's 'success' with them......

YES MONDAY THERE IS AN ANNOUNCEMENT. Announcement NOT of handsets but (announcement) of UIQ business strategic plans.

If you can't understand this, then I give up.

Maybe UIQ 3.5 or something or a completely new UIQ 4.

Hope they learned their mistake. But i no longer have any faith in SE and UIQ.To make matters worse, they handled their smart phone customer badly.

I will not spend a premium and become a beta tester for another faulty phone. My next phone will be either a Windows one or a trusted Esato users 'Highly recommended' SE UIQ phone.

W960

Posted by m-one
Yeah...I know that MOOI is the W960i. And Maria is the one to be announced soon.
But everyone calls it MOOI so it will remain MOOI. It's easier
The codenames changed before the announcement of W960i (MOOI).

Posted by Angello
haha coolsha ur wright
@ m-one
then you must make everyone clear that MOOI is W960i
and Maria is the phone they are all waiting for.
because otherwise the infos are wrong and its unfair for the ppl
who doesn't know all codenames

So why Shaliron keep saying that this is MOOI ??

Posted by m-one
I guess he knows it already. The problem is that MOOI originally was intended to be the successor of the W960 - the real "iPhone-killer". But SE decided to change the codenames for any reason. Now everyone is talking about MOOI to be the successor of the W960i despite the fact that the codenames changed.

In the end it doesn't really matter: Who knows that Shinobu is not the W910i?
Yeah...the W910's official codename turned out to be Erika;)

How likely is it that a flagship device will be announced before the christmas season to be sold after the new year? Im sure they would be worried about affecting their chrismas sales.

On the other hand, they may end up announcing Lizzy, since its fcc approved.

Posted by Angello
@ m-one
no that's not right
W910i is Shinobu
there is no phne called erika

Posted by m-one
Ohh...really?

However has only announced & launched 2 UIQ devices this year.
P1i
W960i
They HAVE hinted/mentioned that the P1i is NOT the TRUE successor to the P990i > so this I can guess will be announced not Monday/This month but late this year, say 3 week before Xmas or 3 weeks after New Years Day. Just a hunch really.

Posted by domipost
3 weeks after new year isn't this year. Maybe they're going to announce 3 UIQ devices on monday or 15 nov.

"I" never said it was. I simply said that the successor to the P1i - on a hunch - will be announced later than this month (3wks before Xmas = November to 1-2nd wk of December) or 3 wks AFTER the new year.

Although I do hope that I'm wrong on this all the way.

I'd like to see a Smartphone UIQ device.

Will we see a Windows Mobile Device announced? i.e. a messaging Smartphone Edition device.

Which doesn't even have a touchscreen or a qwerty keypad (has a camera that produces overblown and oversaturated 3MP images in terms of quality; has a crap media player like all nokias, cheap build quality and a GPS that requires the phone to be plugged in, in order to be used properly). Smartphone my ass!

Could you kindly go away?
