For the Japanese market, I think. Europeans aren't ready for these resolutions yet. But VGA will come for the European market next from

does anyone know whether k850 or w960 has tv-output, because that is a feature that i like about n95

Posted by m-one
Neigher the k850 nor the w960 has a tv output!

Posted by goldenface
Rumours are floating around in the K850i thread of a TV version of the k850i which will have a DVB-H receiver embedded within it.

The question arises as to whether this will still be Cyber-shot branded or will it be just a TV phone in a K850i shell then Bravia branded for instance.

i am quite sure that it will be a Bravia branded phone, but the phone is 100% true
When Eldar says something it is almost true.

Yes I know Eldar is very reliable.

It just seems strange that SE doesn't seem to be creating a 'TV brand' on its mobiles the way it has with music and imaging, i.e Walkman and Cyber-shot.

It would be nice to see few TV phones thrown into the mix like the SO903iTV in Japan.

Posted by WhiteEye
I guess prefer to incorporate 'TV brand' into another ones. We may see a Walkman or Cyber-shot phone with full DVB-H support in the future. Just see Nokia, they don't have specific brand for TV phones. So far we see some in the Nseries line-up. We may see Eseries with DVB-H feature, I guess.

But wait, both TV phone and gaming one need high resolution screen. What if intend to merge those two? Just guess so.

Posted by goldenface
Nokia doesn't have the 'brand heritage' that SE's parent company has and do does things differently.

The branding of Walkman and Cyber-shot has proved very successful for SE so I am unsure why they wouldn't repeat this formula for their mobile TV handsets: May be it will depend on the success of the Japanese Bravia phones.

Sony TV
SonyEricsson TV

Posted by goldenface
Well Sony's earlier attempts at mobile tv were called 'WatchMan' (like Walkman), maybe that will make a reappearance.

First off Brand-'Heritage' doesn't exist in marketing. Its called brand-name recognition.

Nokia doesn't NEED to make a sub brand for their phone line. They already have the :

Vertu - high end stylish phones where $COST$ is no issue

E-Series business class focused smartphones with PUSH email sync from various vendors.

N-Series smartphones for EVERY Market.

Don't think for a moment if SE launches the Bravia line for the rest of the world outside of Japan, that Nokia will be behind.

Latest news is that European Union standardized on DVB-H which Nokia mostly pioneered & pushed to what it is today and where its going. Lets look at Nokia's mobile phone TV history shall we ....

Nokia 7700 distributed directly to cellular providers just over 3 years ago:
stream video at 320x240 res for Video. Nokia 7710 also having EDGE and same specs better shell using Symbian OS Running 7.1 with Series 90 (TOUCH SCREEN)! Look this up, and realize how powerful it was, although minimal apps, think what Nokia CAN do with symbian if they decide to go Touch screen. Most recently 9mths ago they released the Nokia N92 . Symbian 9.1 with S60 3rd edition with 900/1800Mhz GSM/EDGE & 2100UMTS along with a dedicated DVB-H receiver with 2 bands. Finally, less than 8mths after N77 candy-bar with built in DVB-H (no hub stick) with incredible shell twin stereo speakers, incredible resolution 3G. Great battery life - unheard of by Nokia.

So you still think Nokia is going to be behind in the DVB-H scheme of things?

SE better REALLY push DVB-H in a BIG way especially with the expensive non smartphone suggested retail prices they set. Believe me if the N77 had 850Mhz GSM band I'd have it RIGHT NOW even though DVB-H isn't standardized or even used in my country. Add WiFi I'd be SOLD!

however this Samsung SGH-i520 with S60 & WiFi or the i620 with MS Smartphone looks nice too - but I'm still a BlackBerry at heart and hear GOOD things with the P1i & BBConnect 4.

where's the gaming mobile from some one said before that we are going to see one for this year

Posted by gauravsali
i just want to ask to m-one that according to u w960 will be available from december.so why will see announce phone better than w960 in nov. and release it on 25th feb. Then most of the people wait till feb. so what do u think? does se will announce in nov the real succesor of w950?

Posted by m-one
I guess it's a question of the price consumers are willing to pay for.
Do you think the W960i rerelease will be equally priced and equipped as the first W960i?

First time I've seen one, looks like Moto W375....

At a guess, 176x220, and about 15mb+M2 slot(maybe even 256 card in retail package).....

To retail around £100-150 sim-free - purely because don't currently have a model for that price range!

Posted by goldenface
@xumdeo

Will have the OLED indicators? Possible illuminating the music buttons too?

Posted by mustafabay
They difinaitely look like buttons that light up. It looks quite thin 13~15mm maybe?

And does anyone know how to translate xmedo's riddles yet? What is a it-phone? A big hit like? Or something else?

Posted by C905
it looks damn nice even though it is not a high end phone

Posted by remirez
I'm surprised no one has realised it looks a lot like the O2 cocoon in design and certainly features. (OEM?)

http://cocoon.o2.co.uk/

Posted by xumdeo
no offence, but they stole the design from AU KDDI's NEON (W42T), which is a CDMA EVDO phone released 1.5 years ago

http://k-tai.impress.co.jp/cda/article/news_toppage/27396.html

u can see how the animation works here http://www.au.kddi.com/au_design_project/seihin/neon/index.html

The criss-cross geometric design and the 1.3mp cam which is integrated into fit shaliron's description. I think the upper folder is too long for 128x160 screen.

the dummy phone in the picture looks bad, though when released it's pictures are surely better btw. i think this was the Z350's walkman brethen, functionally identical, only design differs i hope it's not pricey

I believe so .... man that took them forever to replace the W300 (which the W300 will be my daughters 1st brand new phone walkman and cell in 1 - Damn the iPod).

This new clamshell show me that SE is finally getting clams just right I'd buy this as a backup.

Posted by xironghostx
what do you think the screen resolution will be on this new W clamshell, qvga or just 176x220??

Posted by C905
i think it will be QVGA cause they are going to use QVGA screens in mid-end phones :=

ye, would be great because this might be my next phone before i buy a "real phone". maybe P3i if it got that rumored extreme specc

Posted by C905
the design is more than perfect, but the features are lagging behind a bit

Posted by xironghostx
yeah maybe but not if you compare to my crappy motorola v360 wich i bought when my v800 went broken.(my wallet was almost empty when i bought the v360) I also think it could be a nice second phone if I could get my hands on a p3i or something later on, next year.

Posted by xironghostx
who knows, it might take 3 months before it is announced and then i will probably get another phone(k850 or w9-10/60 maybe?)
but yeah, the design is awesome

Posted by razec
K850 is already the most equipped featurephone i've ever seen, and would surely be more equipped if SE will incorporate touchscreen for handwriting recognition just like what they had in Z558 this is to help SE broaden it's mass market initiative as they will cover not only the european and US countries but also the chinese market where there was the highest rate of population in the world

Posted by goldenface
Has anyone any more info regarding the rumoured announcement this month? Will this be the last one before Christmas?

Posted by shaliron
Hey all,

That phone looks like a cross between the W910/W580 in flip form IMO.

A lot of updates to give - nothing particularly new, but a little more coherently layed out.

UPDATE:

And a little more Japanese stuff to come - when I get that organized.

Posted by goldenface
Wow! Big things in store in the next few months then.

MOOI sounds interesting - an iPhone competitor, probably higher specced.

Also, Redesigned K850 will have a sliding lens cover, DVB-H (mobile TV), and GPS - very interesting!
