K550i it is then. So can we assume there will be an EDGE enabled K530c and K530a for our American friends?

Look here the backside of the black AI. And a new headset.

Well that white phone is definitely the Li. I like it quite a bit, and the pictures confirm that the screen is 176x220, but it is quite large.
I don't see any improvements from the K750 then (if it is to be named the K770).
@beta-tester
Yeah, the black Ai has an orange back. Not my cup of tea, but at least it's metallic.
Wonder what the K550 is.
EDIT: Actually, I reckon it's a candybar Z550. Very logical.

@ shaliron
What do you say about the new headset Hpm-75?
Is there any advancement to the old Hpm-70?
I have heard it should be a high-end In-Ear Headset.

I really love this design!! It's white, it has some silver/mirror like finish, it really has that iPod video look going on... great!! Too bad it's just a K750i in a different design. Might just as well get it.

@deuxani
Have you any idea about how Sofia will look?

Perhaps someone could make a study of it.
Only to have a picture that we can discuss.

you have said that K650 thats I belive white "Li" will have 3G?...but the pics show otherwise...

ups my mistake...I have forgotten to check the first page where the list is;)

yeah. im afraid the more shots that get leaked out, the more i get convinced. like i said, i think it's going to be 90% what these spyshots look like. i really hope they change that joystick+softkey area though. there's too much banding, and the curves+straight lines look they're going after is not quite effective (that's just an opinion though). And that back!! I hate that back!!
btw, i hated the Wilma spyshots to the last bone (i'm still not raving about the black K800 anyways

@ goldenface, unfortunately I really have no idea. No info whatsoever on the looks of Sofia.
The big question will be... what design-direction will they continue in for this successor of the K800i. Will it have the design like:
Exterior:
- The K600i, K800i and W880i (Ai)... with the, what I like to call "Frankenstein head", huge space above the screen where the camera is... and with very straight lines and no roundings.
- K610i, V630i, K618i and K770i... round forms and a small space above the screen with a not so dominating useless camera for videocalls. I prefer this
Navigation:
- Joystick (K800i, K320i, K750i, K610i)
- Round navigation pad (W810i, K618i, V630i). I prefer this
- Cut navigation pad (K770i, W770i, W880i)
Numeric keys:
- Regular (K800i, etc). I prefer this
- Ultra thin ((K770i, W770i, W880i, P990i, P910i)

s SE going to release Walkman version of K800i?
Posted by goldenface
@Deuxani
Well it seems there is to be a departure from 2006 designs. So far most of the spypics we have seen have shown handsets with more metal, slimmer and with straighter lines. It seems Sofia is the most highly-guarded of them all. I'm wondering if it will be much bigger than the K800i.

It would be nice if Sofia can keep to the K750 size as opposed to K800.........as the I-Mobile 902 manages to do so, with similar(if not the same in some areas, i.e: cam module) hardware componentry.......
Posted by deuxani
@ goldenface, some things changed, but some things stayed the same. This Cyber-shot K770i is in line with the SE's of 2006 (K610i, K618i, V630i, etc) only the keypad is different and the W880i has the looks of the K800i and K600i, but again with a different keypad. It will be really interesting to see what they will do with Sofia. It's said to be the size of the K610i, which is small, but when you think that it could have a 2.2" screen, the phone would be amazingly small. Time will tell.... But like Aware said, the i-Mobile 902 is about the same size as the K750i, so SE can't afford to make it bigger than that.

But those were ALL essentially the same as the spy photos! Same shell, casing & decals. BTW the W300 pic on the bottom was compared to a Z300 2 same designed phones that are different - Walkman vs NON walkman.
Which makes me sad of the Ai photos.

Guess I'll wait to see the AI with my own eyes before I judge it

the charger plug is placed on the side?
Posted by PeterKay
correct and is that a good idea!
Posted by BobaFett
why peter? i saw it only on nec fones til now...
Posted by PeterKay
I am askin is it a good idea, i don't think it is.
Why would they do that? how would that then sit in a cradle?
Posted by BobaFett
imo its a weird and crap solution, i do hated it to charge my nec fones that way and u are right, at that case forget any kind of cradle, if it is.
Posted by PeterKay
wonder what it is replaced with at the bottom?
Posted by BobaFett
imo nothing is then at the bottom, headset should be plugged on the side aswell and thats very crap when u have your fone in your pocket
Posted by PeterKay
Come on
what are you thinking of?
must be a good reason for the change!
Posted by BobaFett
do u really think they ll do it? if the pix u posted are protos, they hardly change it back to the traditional way, hopefully they just experienced with the side plug. we ll see...

@Peter Kay,
not sure if you posted those pictures 2 months ago or not, before Sharilon's thread (the one we're all posting in) was created, or just created. But those photos arent "NEW" per say, only the middle one with the play button is new to my eyes - I've seen the top & bottom pics before here on ESATO. Any purely FRESH pics?
@Mano Khan, indeed you're facing extreme issues with your W810i - in the W810 clan thread let us know if you were able to do a firmware re-install. (I havent checked my PM's just yet it'll be later tonight). As for not ever buying another SE maybe end of next year when better products come around offering us more features other than just something slim, and putting the connector on the side - from phones like Peter Kay has posted pics of. You may want to consider S60 products from Nokia (N75, 6290 upcoming are pretty nice yet no WiFi) or the Windows Mobile 5 variety; personally I'm considering the Samsung SGH-600 (BlackJacks brother+WiFi) or the upcoming HTC Cavelier. Just my personal interests & tastes.
Sorry ya'll for gumming up the thread. Back on topic.
What are the chances - or more info of as currently its scarce - on the UIQ3 non-touch-screen smartphone with a built in qwerty (to compete with HTC Dash, Moto Q, Samsung BlackJack, Palm Treo 680)?! I'm very curious to see such a design and think it would be more functional for 1 handed use and longevity in screen life - I'm still not used a screen protector since my old Palm m515 days. I dont mean to use an M600 with cam but NON-touchscreen.
Sharilon any info of such a product?!
Posted by PeterKay
@Prom1, the pics i just posted are not new, i never said they were!
I just posted the 3 pics to get more information on them.

That SE AI looks horrible IMO. I know my P990I is a brick but looks wise it's 10,000 times better!!
What are SE thinking off? I just hope those buttons aren't final.
Posted by shaliron
Just on the Ai, the size of the keys are around the size of the A + B gaming keys on the K800.
@PeterKay, boba
The reason for the new fastport placement is for new accessories. What type I don't know, but it's easy to imagine things like new cradles and speakers designed for the new fastport area. I think SE knows what they're doing. Might have to slot it in sideways.
Nokia have random placements for their ports - top, bottom and side
And boba, I think all new SE phones will use M2 from now on.
@Prom1
I do know that a couple of non-touchscreen UIQ phones will come out, and I'd sorta assume that at least one of them has a QWERTY thumbboard, but I'm not making at promises
Also, the W300 was originally going to look like a Z530, but they did change it. There's always hope.
@beta-tester
I have no info on the new HPM-75. All I can assume is that it's an upgrade to the still fantastic HPM-70. The HPM-70's almost two years old now, so now it's time for an upgrade I guess; better sound quality then.
But the Sofia is obviously being guarded heavily. Apart from the specs, the design has had no mention at all! We have no idea what it looks like
But it is based on the same architecture as the K610, and if looks anything like the K610, then we shouldn't be disappointed.
I reckon (okay hope) the Ai is meant to be a different design philosophy to the rest of SE's line up for next year, i.e. the large black border around the screen is not part of the new design theme. Hopefully the K770/Li is more representative.
Also, can anyone tell me the big difference between the K770 (Li), W770 (Na), K750 and W810? They all are pretty similar, minus/plus different GSM bands and EDGE. It just seems like design and thickness.

K550i:
- Display: 176x220 Pixel, 262.144 colors
- Camera: 1632x1224 Pixel
- Bluetooth 2.0
- no UMTS, but EDGE
- Java MIDP 2.0
- Netfront Browser (XHTML 1.1, JavaScript)
- Streaming enabled (176x220 Pixel, 3gpp, WMA, WMV, H264, Real Video etc.)
W610i will be the walkman version with more or less the same specs...

i don't think so specily after the lounch of the new 32GB memory
maybe most of SE mobile will use M2 but not the high-end walkman

All we have is pics.. No definite specs yet.

@cristiano
The new memory has a theoretical capacity of 32GB - that doesn't mean that it will come out in 32GB sizes. M2 for example has a theoretical max capacity of around 32GB as well, and so does Memory Stick Pro Duo.
The whole point of MS PRO-HG is for devices which need high speed transfer, such as Sony's own SLRs.
@Keyser Soze
Thanks for that. The camera resolution is the W700's resolution, not the same as the camera on the K610 etc.
Guess that means that the W610 is the same as the W700 basically, in slider.
EDIT: The K550 can't be a slider, but you said that the W610 is the
version of the K550. Is the W610 just a candybar (with the W700 specs _________________

I'd only imagine that with the DVB-H phone that they'd have to increase the capacity and introduce a new battery, and maybe also a new type for the slim phones.

@shaliron
M2 max capacity in market is 1GB and maybe 2GB for next year
Memory Stick Pro max in market 4GB in 2007 8GB +16GB

EDIT: Re-read your post.
The reason for the use of M2 is to cut down on the size of the memory stick slot so that space is used more efficiently. It was developed for mobiles. I doubt that SE would move 'backwards' and the only reason why the W850 used the old type was because it was in development for a while.
Just like why SD isn't used in Nokia phones, even large phones like the N93.

if SE r going to increas the capacity of the M2 more more than 4 GB it will be ok
coz most of the cumtomers needs 4GB memory and higher not only 1GB

I feel W300(and its Z series) was the first phone designed for M2...this was the phone on which M2 was tested.Thats why we saw the prototypes of this phone long before the real phones based on it were launched.All phones designed after W300 have M2.
